You got 3 extra home games. That's a fact. The Phillies are the best team in the NL - another fact. I fail to see how pretending the first didn't happen helps change anything about the second - or if it is anything other than pigheadedness on your part.

Phils have 97 wins. Assume they lose all those 3 games IN Toronto...they have 94 wins. Still doesn't factor into anything because the next best team has 91 wins.

I would buy yours and many other peoples arguments if the races/homefield advantage arguments were a lot closer.

They actually lost one of the games against the Blue Jays anyway, so that would drop them to 95 wins, or 1 win off the best record in the majors.

I thought the biggest favor in home field was getting to bat last. Or is "being able to sleep in you own bed" quantifyable as a stat now.

It's just so ridiculously silly to whine about the location of 3 games over a 162-game season. A million things happen over the course of a baseball season - injuries, slumps, suspensions, players' personal issues, weather....To single-in on any of them, especially something as relatively meaningless as home field advantage over a short series in the middle of the season is nothing other than silly whining.

Are you freaking serious? At worst give them two more losses (as they were 2-1 in those games) and they are still the best record in the National League? My 6 year old can understand that math...

Since you want to talk facts...

Since July 22nd they have gone 49-18 (a .731 winning percentage). The three games in question affected that how? Maybe they added to that total? Oh wait, those games were a month before that streak even started.... MORON!!!!!!!

Let's not even talk about how the Phillies have the second best road record in the majors (and no, those gams are not included in that record).

So, uh, good job, MLB. You have one of the most exciting final days of the regular season and... the Phils/Braves game isn't on national tv anywhere. Online maybe- nope, MLB-premium subscribers only. But, I, for one, am definitely excited to see Yanks-Red Sox, which might decide home field but doesn't figure into who might or might not get in.

Congrats, you could have people watching baseball here but instead, they'll choose that excellent Packers-Lions suckfest.

Holy shit! The Braves are scoring runs! I almost forgot what this looked like.

Now 5-2 lead. Hudson had one of the RBI's, amazingly stroking an 0-2 pitch to center.

8-7 going into the bottom of the eighth, we could really use an insurance run or three the way things are going.

I need a little help with something here. If the Braves had lost today and the Padres were to win, the Padres would automatically win the West because of a better head-to-head record over the Giants. The Giants would've gotten the wild card because they'd have a better record than the Braves. OK, I get that part.

Here's what I'm questioning now that the Braves have won: If the Padres win today, why do they have to play a playoff against the Giants tomorrow for the division? Why don't they still automatically win the West via head-to-head and make the Giants play the Braves for the wild card?

Rules are rules, but I just find it strange that they'll decide the division winner by head-to-head in one scenario, but they have to do a playoff in another.

Makes sense to me. If both teams are going to the postseason, then head-to-head is fine as it doesn't have the same impact. They simply don't want head-to-head to eliminate someone from the playoffs. That has a bigger impact and they want that decided on the field.

Nice, the Giants have taken a 1-0 lead.

Right, and a tiebreaker is a pretty big disadvantage for a team to have to play, while it's playoff opponent gets to rest its pitchers. So since the playoffs expanded in '95, that's always been the rule - play the tiebreaker only if it determines who actually goes to the playoffs.

Well, I acknowledge that there's a certain logic to it. I still think it's a little weird, but I don't want to make a bigger deal out of it than it is. Thanks.
