EA's NFL Head Coach to get a sequel?
That's the rumour. Never tried the original game, but I can't say I regret that given what I read here.

it's confirmed. I have a friend that works there and they do have a "team" assigned to it.

Development is scheduled to begin in Spring of 2009.
They should be done clicking through practices by ten.

Is it true that every game will have 3 quarters instead of 4?

Bought the original cheap, had it loaded for the whole of 10 minutes. Their "team" had better make it 1000 times better than the original just to make it average.

Really wanted the last one to be fun...I think we all did. Hopefully if they are going to spend some time & $$ on it, they'll ramp up the fun factor. That was one torturous "game".

For my first post in God knows how long, I'd like to point out that I saw NFL Head Coach in a Macy's bargain bin for $5.99. I chose to buy Wacky Wheels instead.
Can anyone think of a game that was abandoned by its developers just 12 months after being released? |

I purchased it when it came out. About a month later, after uninstalling it the day of, I gave it to my bro-in-law. I later got it for free from ea's online store. I reinstalled my OS the next day.

Wanted it to work, but it just wasn't fun. You couldn't even really call plays with a headset.

I know this might sound like a stretch to some, but I believe NFL Head Coach was the worst computer game I ever played. I played literally over 1000 games on my Commodore 64 as a kid, and I've probably played hundreds more on my Amiga and various PC machines over the past 15 years. Even so, I can't recall a more painful computer game experience than trying to play NFL Head Coach.

Official announcement just came down. Head Coach '09 is currently under development with a summer/fall release planned. Tony Dungy is the cover boy. Tiburon promises that it will be just as good as the first one (OK, I made up that part).

I have to admit buying HC the day it came out, and was so angry about how bad it was went off in an e-mail to EA about how terrible the GUI was...
I should dig up the response e-mail from their support staff, needless to say I didnt get my 40 bucks back. Recently i found FOF and this forum and have been very happy with my football sim gaming every since. |

FYI......if you haven't got into a multiplayer FOF league yet, I'd highly suggest doing it. There's a really good league called the eNFL (http://www.eripsa.net/eNFL) that may have a team or two come available soon. You can send a IM to Nwobhm on this site and he can add you to the waiting list. I've played in the league before and they're a lot of fun. |

Was it the PC version that sucked, or the console version? Or both?

From what I remember reading, the PC version was better than the console version. Even then, the PC version was the worst game I've ever played.

According to a recent writeup on IGN (which I got directed to from Football Outsiders), this game will contain not one line of code from the original. That, at least, is a smart way to start the sequel.

Atrocious game that I played way longer than I should have just because I kept holding out hope it'd be good. I think I actually made it through 2 full seasons, and won the Super Bowl both times with doing almost nothing(and as the Redskins on top of that), so the difficulty wasn't exactly through the roof either.
It was great at being tedious though. I can't imagine picking the new one up unless I hear overwhelming praise, and I can't imagine that happening. I don't even know where to begin on what they need to change, I can't remember anything that I would want them to keep. |

I never made it to a single practice in the game. It was really the biggest waste of $40 ever for me.

It hurt to play that game. I saw my wife go through childbirth and saw the look of pain in her face, I would compare it pretty closely to that, but only without the payoff of having your child come into the world.

I can honestly say that it was the worst game I have ever paid for. This is not an exaggeration either, it really was. There is not a single person I've heard from that thought this game was good. I am astonished EA is coming out with a sequel considering not a soul who bought the original will buy this one (without ridiculously good reviews).

Preview is up in gamestop:
http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/spor...=1&sid=6186736 This already made me to hate this game: "Though you can get canned in NFL Head Coach, the game will try to help you along if your approval rating plummets too low, whether by throwing a good player your way, or by helping a current player have a breakthrough in his potential." WTF?? so if you are doing bad as GM, your players will all the sudden become HOF level so you can win???

Um.....
Why did you fools buy this without playing it first? There was a demo that showed what a turd this game was in the first 5 minutes. (No offense meant at the 'fools' comment, but this shit is why ea can get away with releasing shitty games every year). |

I think most of us were just desperate for a FPS type football game and we leapt before looking. I won't be repeating that mistake. I'll check out a demo if they make one available. Otherwise, I'll never check this one out unless there is a large amount of positive feedback on here, which is unlikely. |

Oh, trust me, I'm beyond skeptical, too. There is no way I'll be purchasing this unless I read many, many incredibly excited reviews from many, many people. But at least the creators are acknowledging what an incredible piece of crap the first one was.

Well, I think we've all seen the quality of work that EA has put into their sports games since taking over basically all official liscencing. I doubt we will ever see another quality sports game from them. Remember, competition breeds excellence.

All-in-all it sounds like they are trying to make a text sim style game...with the Madden engine used to play the game out (gee...what a concept EA). Not much written about the coaching in the game yet. Doubtful there will be any customizable league settings or the like. Sounds like it's on the right path...but I'd say they still have plenty of time to screw this game up. |
