Why go to a school that would be a downgrade?

I would love to be proven wrong, but I think A&M wins the game.

I'll be making an exception to my usual root against Alabama rule for this game. I hope that they pound the crap out of A&M.

My sources tell me that there is a flight plan already filed for a plane to bring Saban to Texas on Friday. It is pretty much a done deal at this point that he will be the next head coach at Texas. He's going to throw out the first pitch at the Rangers game on Sunday as well for his "Welcome to Texas" moment.

Heard the same thing. As soon as its official on Friday night, Johnny Football will de-commit from A&M and be in the starting lineup vs. Ole Miss on Saturday for his really, really favorite school. Texas beats Ole Miss by 90 on their way to an improbable National Championship, their first of 50 straight.

Yeah, I'm actually glad Illinois beat up on Cincinnati - should ensure that the Illini get full attention from our team. Not that they should need any more incentive given how poorly they've played on the road, but there will be no excuse for the Huskies to come out flat.

UCLA visits Nebraska early on Saturday, in the wake of the passing of UCLA walk on WR Nick Pasquale this past weekend.

The whole team and staff is pretty emotional right now and UCLA practices have been closed to the media for the week. UCLA will be wearing a patch with Pasquale's number 36 on it.

Bo Pellini showed how classy he and the whole Cornhusker nation is, too, as he opened his press conference by extending condolences to Nick's family and UCLA on behalf of Nebraska football. Nebraska will also be wearing a patch, and there will be a moment of silence before the game.

Classy move by a proud and tradition-rich program. Hope it's a good game on Saturday.

Iowa goes to Iowa St. to continue the Cy-Hawk series.
Both teams are not very good right now. So it could be an interestingly bad game. But, as always, this is Iowa St.'s Super Bowl. So they are always way up for the game. A loss wouldnt surprise me.

I'd be worried if I were Tulsa. Sounds like they'll lose 10 scholarships to go with Boise State's 4.

Probably Oral Roberts University will get docked as well, since they are close by and should have shared their moral compass with the Cowboys.

I laugh at the Tulsa, Oral Roberts joke. Only because it is so true.

Every time I see a major program in trouble, I point to a small program that will take the fall.

Whatever they get will just be the starting for when the NCAA completes the University of Miami investigation later on that year.

Quite selfish of Manziel to earn millions for the school, conference, and major networks and only get his tuition paid in return.

Is that all you got from that? I think the NCAA is just below pond scum in the grand scheme of things, but that was a well written article. I still believe the star players are entitled to more, but that article deserves a little more than a quick dismissal imho.

FWIW the article explains that tuition is only the start of what the athlete gets.

I didn't read just tuition...The following is one of the reasons why I am against college athletes being paid.

"Once you're there, your scholarship is a contract that binds you to your school. One side of the deal is this: we pick up everything. All you have to do is show up, keep your grades at a marginal level, and you can be part of the most exclusive club on campus. You will be trained in both your sport and your post-athletics career path. If you begin grad school while you are eligible, guess who picks up the tab? Not you. Many scholarship football players are on campus for five years, during which time they receive free tutoring, the best counseling, priority enrollment into certain classes, new textbooks, the best dorms and meals, in addition to the training, coaching, and essentially work experience you can gain in your sport. Additionally, the NCAA essentially allows student-athletes who leave to return and get their degree on a full grant-in-aid at any time. Does this sound like a good deal so far?"

Great article and thanks for the link. Glad to see something like this written, especially from an ex-athlete. If anyone has ever seen the chow hall and what it servers at an athletics dorm, you'd know that there is more than just books and tuition. Tutoring too. Its almost impossible to fail with that kind of help.

Also didnt know about Gottleib and ND. Wow. Theft? That was surprising.

Good read.

Gottlieb can certainly be obnoxious. But I think he's a good college hoops Xs and Os guy and can do a good job of communicating "insider" stuff like this.
