'18 ... with the caveat that was true only because I hadn't really played one more than briefly in quite a few years
I figure I might go 'round again in another 5-10 years. (assuming it still exists)

'03 because I was in college with roommates and franchise mode is amazing if you have 4-5 people in the same league. We got one going for like 10 years in game.
After that, I really haven't enjoyed the game that much. 2K made a better game for a little while before EA got the exclusive license. Since the exclusive license it's been a stagnant franchise that doesn't hold much value unless you're into online play. Something I'm unfortunately not into. I seem to buy it every few years, play around with it, notice huge bugs in franchise mode, and then it collects dust. |

Yep. I went from a first-day buyer to buying it every few years and quickly giving up on the game whenever I do buy it.

The last Madden I bought was on the PS3.

I skipped 17 and 18 and got it this year. I have a good slider base and the gameplay is good for me, which is maybe a by-product of skipping two years straight, but I will definitely get my money's worth this year, which I equate to playing 50+ hours of a game.

I think it was 03 - last year of college sounds about right. I've bought it at least 6-8 times since then, but never made it more than a couple of games into a season.
Basically, I'm an idiot. |

07.
Picked it up for €5 in August 2010. The only Madden I ever bought. Money's worth? I think I played enough games to be worth the little money it cost. Primarily with IHOF roster though.

I haven't owned a video game console since 1996, but I certainly got my money's worth on that version and the two before it.

Madden 09 for the original XBox was the last good one and most people don't even know it exists. Everything since then has been a step back in every category that matters to me, from removing features to fucking up Franchise mode entirely, the list continues on forever.
The current iteration is little more than a money machine for EA, and I will never get on board for that shit. I've gotten a copy of one of the recent iterations, I think 2016 or 2017 (Paid like 2.99 plus shipping for it) and I only did that to confirm for myself how fucked up the game is. First game I played I was playing as a created QB fresh out of the draft, playing for the Jets.. I move the team down the field for a late FG that would have given us the win, but the quick sim lets the clock run out with 30 plus seconds and a timeout left. Unforgivable. EA as a whole is unforgivable. Every damn game they have touched has their stink on it and sucks as a result. The only reason they remain relevant is through their shitty sports offerings and through buying up IP from smaller companies, then running it directly into the dirt immediately. They fucked up Peggle and Plants Vs Zombies. They ruined Mass Effect as soon as they got their hands on it, and every iteration of that game has been worse than the last and I guarantee it is because EA is overseeing it all. There's a reason my signature remains what it has been for ages.

25 for me since it was the last one to have college football parallel game. I just never got into the game after that, switching the board gaming instead. I did break down and buy 25 for the One last year just for fun. I may have played 4 games or so.

Probably 2005. I always liked NCAA more but that was the worst version of NCAA so I played a lot of Madden. I used to be in the buy Madden every year club, but I’ve only bought it once in PS4 (2018) and my last one before that was the one with Peyton Hillis on the cover.
If I go back historically, 99, 2001 and 2005 were the big ones for me in terms of hours played.

I think 2003 was my most-played version. We had an FOFC OD that was a ton of fun.
