I wish I could say there was a decision. It was a bizarre call but I would say it looks like I will be getting the job, but no offer is on the table yet. We basically debriefed on the entire process, talked about the next 5 years and then I was told, "You're the guy we want. We know the situation as far as you're current compensation and desire to not relocate for a year. We want to discuss how we see that going forward, but... some of us are getting ready to leave tomorrow for Europe for two weeks and we'd like to discuss the particulars when we're back."

So I'm the guy but no movement for another two weeks. Honestly, it's a bit frustrating but I badly want this job so I'll happily wait it out if that's whats required.

Maybe I'm just becoming an old crank and actively looking for stuff to grouse about, but I get offended by successful celebrities advertising for high-interest credit cards. Does this bother anybody else? And to be clear, I'm specifically talking about the folks who have enough millions in the bank to choose not to advertise high-interest credit during an epic recession, not ad-level actor/extras (those folks gotta eat, can't begrudge them that). Samuel L. Jackson is the dude who obviously comes to mind most at the moment. Apparently Jackson currently makes $24MM a year, and has a net worth of $170MM....but "Yeah, I'll sell motherfuckers some credit cards!"?

Secondarily I was trying to come up with the morally worst thing that's allowed to be advertised on television. I have tunnel vision which couldn't get past high interest credit, but I'm sure there's worse, right? Drugs/alcohol present much more obvious health risks to individuals, but still somehow seem more honest. A bottle of booze and some smokes seems like a more direct proposition than renting money for years of monthly payments. I know there's probably something obvious which is much worse. Gambling/casinos/lottery?

Yeah, that bothers the hell out of me as well. I don't know whether the credit card adverts or the predatory debt services are worse, but either way it seems massively crass.

The other one that really gets my goat is Forrest Griffin advertising one of these lawyers that can get you out of any DUI. The guy probably didn't make much money during his career but really dude, that's the cause you want to nail your banner to?

Yeah, I think Montel Williams trying to frame payday loans as some sort of security blanket for struggling families might take the cake.

Wikipedia tells me:

Williams is a national spokesman of the Partnership for Prescription Assistance (PPA), a patient assistance program clearinghouse that helps low-income patients apply for free or reduced-price prescription drugs. On November 30, 2007, while in Savannah, Georgia, to promote PPA, he threatened reporters following an earlier interview at which Courtney Scott, a 17-year-old high school intern reporter for the Savannah Morning News, had asked him whether restriction of pharmaceutical profits would discourage research and development of new drugs. Angered by the question, Williams subsequently terminated that videotaped interview; Williams later ran into Scott in his hotel and threatened to "blow [her] up".[10]

[11] In 2010 Williams became chief spokesman for the Poker Training Network,[12] now Card Geniuses, a MLM-based poker instruction and playing website.

Ok, then...welcome to the top of my dipshit list, Montell.

Compared to the other chains it's good. Now if I could only find some quality pizza in Dayton. For those on the board from here, don't say Cassano's, Marion's, Marco's, Donato's, or Campioni's.

They don't use glue for cheese, so I guess that automatically rockets them ahead of Pizza Hut and Domino's, but I still have trouble calling Papa John's good. Mostly it's the sweetness of the sauce, how much corn syrup you pouring in your pizza sauce Papa? That shit's probably cheaper than water (and certainly tomatoes!) to them.

Joe's Pizzeria on Airway. You can thank me later. Flying Pizza or Palermo's if you prefer New York Style. Hoagie's pizza in Vandalia is very good as well.

Tito Santana was my favorite wrestler as a kid, so I require further information on this dish. Was it, in fact, named after the wrestler?

To the best of my knowledge yes! It is a taco pizza... In the oven it has ground beef and cheese along with pizza sauce. Then they add lettuce, tomato and a chipotle mayo. Awesome stuff. Just like Tito.

I was talking to a friend in Scotland and he mentioned he's going to see The Offspring in Glasgow this week. The support band is Bad Religion.

In my humble opinion, it's crazy that Bad Religion are supporting The Offspring. Should be the other way around.

I'll have to try them if we are up that way. We're down in Springboro and that's a half hour drive for us. If it's good, it would be worth the drive in my wife's mind.

Doubleday's restaurant has Monster Pizza, just opened on 741 south of the commuter airport. That's quite good.

Joe's is worth the drive. There's a place in downtown Franklin that's good but I can't remember the name of it.

Pizza is so subjective. It's hard to have a taste that makes everyone happy, which I guess is why there are so many different ones. I've had some that were raved about that just made me say, meh.

In other news. I just flew you across the map, said have a nice day to you as you left and you can't acknowledge me walking in the bathroom? It's not like I wanna join you in the stall, but a simple head nod would do.

Why are people so pissed when the get where they are going sometimes? On time, early no matter. It was a great flight yet people walk past at the door like you're the fucking devil. They actually speed up and ignore you even if you catch their glance and speak directly to them.

Guess I've had it with this trip. I'm ready to go home tonight.

We picked up some carry out from the place just off of 73N in Franklin a few weeks back. It was better than most places we've had.

Doubleday's we have not tried, even though it is within walking distance of the house, but this was based upon reviews my wife has heard. That said, the people she heard the reviews from I do not hold in high regard reviewing a place. Is Monster Pizza something they do not offer at their Centerville location?

No no no. I like Bad Religion better personally, but The Offspring's music is more accessible to a much broader audience. Just thinking of parties I've been to, etc.

To be fair, I believe every plane that has ever taken off has landed

But not all landings are created the same.

I don't do much flying but when I do, I always acknowledge the flight crew at the door, both in and out. Just like I do pretty much everyone I came to face to face.

Number of Offspring albums to crack the Top 50 in U.K. sales charts
Seven

Number of Bad Religion albums to crack the Top 100 in U.K. sales charts:
Zero

Not even their stuff that did well in the U.S. two decades ago performed well there (worse than even other European countries)

Given the situation they're lucky if it's a direct support (i.e. second on the bill) slot instead of having another band relegate them to the third slot.

I guess I underestimated the longterm popularity of The Offspring, I just remember them as a crap, punk-lite band who got 15 minutes of fame riding on Green Day's coat tales in the mid-90s. Whereas Bad Religion are gods of the genre.

Badly underestimated, over 40 million albums sold career.

There's actually a reasonable possibility that either/both Smash and Americana sold more copies alone than the entire Bad Religion catalog combined.

Yeah, I'm repurposing this from my FB status but it seems to be random enough to qualify.

I'm know I'm kinda old - or at least feel that way - with the next birthday (assuming I get there) being #50. And for all but the past couple of years, I heard people complain every single year about how Georgia was so backwards because they were one of the very few states where fireworks were largely illegal. I heard gripes about how it was unwarranted government intrusion, how it was antiquated & unrealistic, how government treated people like they were children. And I heard that same spiel for about 48 years.

And for pretty much my whole life I knew people who regularly crossed the state line every year, brought back a nice haul of stuff that sparkles, fizzes, and/or goes boom. And I don't mean just your run of the mill mailbox/school toilet mini-bombs either, I mean straight up fireworks. They weren't all that hard to get apparently, and there wasn't a shortage of 'em either.

I never worried much about it one way or the other, they generally require being outside to use so my interest was pretty limited.

Fast-forward to 2015 I guess, when Georgia joined the majority of states in the country by largely legalizing most fireworks. And for the past two years I've heard people complain about the noise, about this or that or the other. It seems to be about the same amount of complaints I heard in the other direction for 40someodd years, it's just amplified these days thanks to social media.

My conclusion? That people really aren't wired to live in proximity to each other. That no matter what the subject, no matter what the circumstances, no matter what the situation, there's going to be roughly the same amount of bitching done. All that changes is who does it, the proverbial case of "whose ox is being gored"

Humans: we bitch, therefore we are.
