Thumbs up NCAA non-Kodos league interest?

For those of you that are interested, I'd like to join a FOFC league without Kodos. Kodos is an ignorant, self-centered jerk who will place a negative mark on your profile should you beat him handily in a game...simply because you're better at the game than he is.

I'd love to play against the FOFC conglomerate, but he's made it abundantly clear that as long as he has a say in it, I can't. Help a Poli out. Even if I have to create a league, I'd like the chance to play against anyone not named Kodos.

Alright. Here is a post I sent to another member of FOFC on this topic a few days ago, who I will call "Anonymous". It explains the whole stupid Poli/Kodos feud. For some reason, he thinks that I am conspiring to keep him out of FOFC leagues. The truth is, I just happen to be the only guy who runs a league, and I won't have Poli be a part because I want nothing to do with him due to past encounters. I don't believe I'll be running another league after the Ladder ends, so hopefully Poli will eventually let things drop. Someone else, please start a league and let Poli in.

Reason I am mentioning all this is he thinks, or assumes their is bad blood between you. I don't want that to be, and he would be a solid owner for the league. I vouch for him, and I think it would be good for us to keep someone that won't drop the league. He will see his team through until the end of the league.

He wanted to join up at inception but figured it was a moot point for him.

A lot of words to say, hey lot Rodney in the league.

Hi Anonymous. I'm sure Poli is a good guy, but we've had a few run-ins over the years, and I've made it clear to him repeatedly that I would rather not have anything to do with him. It all began when he told me to "die in a fire" in a thread on FOFC for some reason that I honestly don't remember the context of. Whatever it was, I thought his comment was way over the line. I told him so. He tried to patch things up, but I insisted we just agree to co-exist on the board. Over time, he kept asking me to play him in NCAA, so I eventually gave in. The result wasn't good. I didn't like how he played, so I finished the game with him, then defriended him on Xbox Live, FOFC, and IHOF. I just wanted to be done with him. I didn't mention anything about it to anyone, but he complained about it on the board, so I sent him this PM:

2. Your style of play is the sort that I try to avoid in my online opponents. I could expand on that, but it's not worth the effort. Just know that I have no desire to ever play any game against you again, and have taken steps to assure that.

3. Given our checkered past (including instances where you publicly told me to drop dead), this game was the "last straw" for me. I accepted your challenge with some hesitation, and on the first drive, I knew I'd chosen poorly. So, I finished out the game, then I dropped you off my friend's list on Live, and put you on ignore here and at IHOF.

4. I'm sure you're a good person, but I'm simply done interacting with you at this point.

I would have been happy to just let all of this happen quietly, but figured I should respond.

He continued to not let it drop, so I sent a follow-up.

Honestly, I think some other guys in the league would take issue with your style of play anyhow. The constant audibling and in-and-out with your secondary just doesn't mesh with the sim style that I enjoy playing against. Not saying your style is wrong, just not what the RFL as a league is going for.

I don't want to hurt your feelings. I just think it is time to acknowledge that things have run their course between us and let things drop. Take care.

After this incident, Poli dropped off of FOFC for a while. Then he came back, and started posting little digs at me.

This was in reference to me:

I still feel your actions in regards to last year with the NCAA game were completely ignorant. To suggest my coaching knowledge is an unfair advantage is fairly weak. In truth, I had actually gave you a positive review while you were placing the negative review on mine!

I'd still like to play in a FOFC based online dynasty if you or the others would let me.

Again, I do apologize for the fire thing and I am very happy your family were not in the home at the time. That must be a relief.

I'd be happy to stop and co-exist if you'd simply allow me to play and co-exist with you in a league. Since you're infinitely incapable, I'll continue.

So he seems to think the only reason I am running the league is to prevent him from joining. I know you don't know me very well, but hopefully you understand that this isn't true. I was running leagues before we had our run-in. I was running it before I knew he was interested in joining an FOFC league. I just don't understand why he can't let go of things. I'm surely not running the league just to spite him. He did ask to join when we started, but I told him no.

For what it's worth, I don't think I'll be running another league after this one finishes. I'm kinda tired of doing it. So hopefully someone else will start a league and Poli can be happy.

Anyhow, there you have it.

At least you kept in the part where you put a negative mark on my profile for beating you.

The fact is, I asked you once to play. I thought it would help bury the hatchet. I won. I didn't rub it in. I ran the ball in the 2nd half to keep the score down.

You then put a negative mark on my profile and said I was unsporting. At the same time I was putting a positive mark on yours. I was surprised after I did so that your profile disappeared...because, being the coward that you are, you blocked me after placing the negative mark.

As for my gameplay, I don't find there to be anything 'gamey' about calling audibles on offense and defense. I wasn't mashing buttons to get 'big hits' or drawing you offsides. I merely beat you. Soundly.

Additionally, you left out the insults your hurled at me as well, but I thought it was a nice touch that you left mine in.

Whatever. I'm enjoying the Ladder and will continue to play in it. Not sure I'll pick up NCAA 13, we'll see if/when the Ladder ends.

Plus 1. Even if I pick up 13, the Ladder will be my main and likely only league (in large part due to time constraints.)

And this is the reason I complain. I wouldn't suggest we have multiple FOFC leagues if I could simply join the one we have in place. I know we can't support two leagues...or at least that's what I'm led to believe. I think it's unfair to hold me out because you don't get along with me, though. I love the over-exaggeration that clearly you run the league to keep me down. Please. I don't think that at all...but I believe you enjoy knowing you can keep me from playing with the FOFC guys here. I do believe that.

It asked if I would like to play you again, or would I like to avoid you. I chose the avoid option. Because that's how I felt a couple drives into our game.

The constant accordioning of you defense is not what I consider sim. And plenty of people have delivered me whippings where I gave them a positive review afterward. But they didn't play cheesily. They just beat me while playing a sim-style game.

As far as insults, I know I called you deranged after your PM yesterday where you said you would keep slinging mud until I let you in, and I think I called you mentally unstable in one of our previous dust-ups. Because you say shit about me, then send me PMs trying to be all friendly. It seems bipolar to me. And you seem to care way more than you should about things like your rating on Xbox Live.

There are hundreds of other leagues out there. Join one. Or start one of your own here. Like I said, I think I'm done with running ODs after this one wraps up, so someone else can step in and run one. It's fun, but a lot of work. I like the group of guys we have right now, so who knows how long it will keep going.

I won't post any more on this topic. I've given my side of the story. If Poli wants to keep making digs at me, that's his choice. I am more than happy to let things drop. Sorry to everyone else for the stupid drama. I just got tired of him taking shots at me all the time and wanted to give my side of the story.

You're full of garbage, again.

My profile didn't have the "unsporting" mark on it until I tried to figure out why you would have disappeared.

The constant "accordion" of defense, actually, is a viable tactic used EVERYWHERE IN REAL FOOTBALL. It's called disguising a defense. The LAST thing I want you to know on offense is what and how my defense will line up or what the coverage might be. Perhaps I shouldn't have done that, since you have no idea about any concepts in football. I'm sorry if your football has to fit in a pretty box. Perhaps you're one of those that has to have fastballs pitched down the middle every time he plays a baseball game as well.

As for other leagues, it's an avenue I'm already pursuing. I'd still love to be part of a FOFC league because I have known these guys longer than most any other online league would offer me...and I clearly know more football than...you.

Chris is one of the highest integrity guys I know on FOFC. Constant movement on defense may happen sometimes in real life, but there were known bugs in the game in previous versions which could be exploited by constantly audibling your defense. I kicked people out of a league I used to run for exploiting that bug.

Then that should have been explained to me as I had no idea that happened. I don't play this game all the time nor had I played online before, say two weeks before I played Kodos.

I'll disagree with Chris being a high integrity guy till the end of the earth.

Master Chief Jacobsen, who served on the USS Cole when it was bombed (and I later worked directly for), defined integrity as "doing the right thing even when no one else is watching." Chris didn't. He didn't have to put a negative mark on my profile, but he did so anyway. He can deny that he did it, but I know for certain that he did. He didn't just 'avoid this player', either. He went looking for that option, he then put a negative mark on my profile and then chose to remove me from his friends list by blocking me.

There's no integrity in that, whatsoever. If he absolutely loathed me, he never would have agreed to 1. add me as a friend or 2. play me in the first place.

To suggest I constantly bugged him to play is an outright lie as well. I asked him one time, to be honest, I was surprised he even agreed. I was looking for an opportunity to show that we could be friends and bury the hatchet. He was looking for an opportunity to be hateful.

I stand by the comment. He has no integrity. He is a coward.

Poli, everything else in here has been running pretty smoothly until you stepped in with this post. I really don't care what war you've got going with Kodos, all I know is I'm having a great time in this OD that he has taken the time to setup and run, and no matter how much mud you throw, it isn't going to change that fact. You are more than welcome to start your own and run it, maybe you'll get some of the 13 crowd into it, who knows. But trying to start one by insulting Kodos is unlikely to get me involved in it.

Understood. My beef isn't with you, Eagles, or Subby. I didn't have a problem with Kodos until he refused to let be part of the league because of a petty insult and put a negative mark against me.

I realize your dealings with him are different than mine.

Online sports games are a tough thing. This is part of why I've kept my online time to a minimum. What some folks think is cheating/cheesing/cheeting/whatever isn't elsewhere.

My general thought on it is that you can't simply apply "it happens in real football" to NCAA. Many years ago I had a friend that in Madden/NCAA would take say a LB and shift him all around to avoid being blocked pre-snap. Yes, this happens in the NFL, but the game engine just can't handle it.

I personally put constant audibles, hot routes, etc into this category. Sure, it may happen in "real life", but the game engines just aren't built to handle it.

I've never played poli and haven't played Kodos in several years, so I can't comment on the specifics, but I know that it can be very unenjoyable to play someone you think is cheesing.

Echoing wademoore here somewhat I guess, this mostly just reminds me why playing MP is the least interesting part of pretty much any game for me. Just way too much grief afaic.

Even when people have the best of intentions, there's always some wrinkle that comes up.

For example, if I had played anybody here I wouldn't have had any idea about negativity attached to audibles, my knowledge of stuff considered cheesing pretty much ends with knowing (or thinking I know) that a few "home run" plays tend to exist in pretty much every console football game.
I don't have a clue what those are from one version to the next but I've picked up enough through osmosis to believe they're out there. But if I had used one of them incidentally with success, I would have expected any FOFC'er to point out the problem with the play - honestly & rationally - before getting bent about it/negging me/etc. That would have been my expectation, maybe other people would see it different, I dunno.

Off the top of my head I think I've played one MP game of any kind with other FOFC'ers (Left For Dead) on a grand total of one occasion. That went fine but for whatever reason(s) it never happened again. I kinda figure that was just as well, online play always seems to turn to shit eventually anyway. YMMV.

I might have reacted differently if I didn't have a previous bad history with Poli (the whole "Die In A Fire" incident).

That game was with me and DataKing, I believe. I'd be up for it again, although I suck.

I had my reasons for that comment, though it was from years ago and I don't want to rehash it. I apologized a hundred times for that. I didn't mean harm to you, I essentially was telling you to go screw yourself.

I've made that comment to various people over the years and not one until you took it that personal. For that, I apologized.

The type of game matters for me. There are actually some games (like FPS games) that I can't enjoy solo anymore. But sports games I think, especially for the likes of people around here really into sports, bring special issues.

I think we should forward this thread to EA. If this thread won't trigger them to get rid of the motion cheats, nothing will.

I think you and I were clearly much worse at the game than DK was, and we had to lower the skill level just to finish. I think I tried to get a second game together a few weeks later, but got no bites.

Anyhow, I really wasn't intending to post anymore in this thread until it got moved from the NCAA Football OD subforum. Still not clear why that happened.

Do you want to start a Southern Maine v. Midcoast Maine rivalry? We could argue about seafood or something.

Shoot, I was going to volunteer for this. But I could be both your archrivals. How about a ME vs. MO feud.

I could argue how an O is way better then an E.

We could do an East Coast vs. West Coast thing.

I was thinking you two might make for a nice, close geographical rivalry.

I hate Seafood as well. Can we form an alliance to hate the seafood loving types?

I spent some time trying to come up with an inspired bitchy parody thread, but the best I could think of was "CDMA non-WebOS Phone Interest"

Not surprised by this thread.

I too have a "never play with Poli" policy, but mine is in reference to Werewolf games after he twice intentionally ruined games that had been running for weeks involving around 20 players. Just fucked the games up for no reason. TWICE. Hundreds of hours of posters' play time out the window.

So, I think it's a good policy, FWIW.

Of course this breaks my little heart.

I obviously belong in this league. I would be the only team in the league to be hated by everyone.
