Love it while you can. We did the whole present thing last night because of the wife is self isolating due to Covid exposure. This morning has been just me cooking a breakfast casserole, and brief glimpses of my wife and son. I'm going to smoke a ham for her brother's family and her dad, but she is staying home. Just been a low key Christmas, and I really miss playing Santa and excited little ones. We did give the dog a stocking with 4 stuffed chew toys, so at least he is excited.

Yes, love/hate the 4am wake-ups. This is the last Christmas with a minor in our immediate family. We got up, made/ate breakfast and then opened presents that we all mostly knew what they were. I did surprise Mack with a limited edition 75th anniversary Scottie Barnes Raptors jersey she thought we couldn't find anywhere online. Caitlin got a bunch of school stuff between graduation last week and Christmas today in preparation for her first job. Different feel to the last few Christmases, that's for sure.

didn't get to open gifts or meet up with family, but it wasn't due to illness, it was due to weather (freezing rain, some places had a half inch of ice)

Very culinary theme for me this year.

I got a top-end chef's knife from my dad, and new cookware from my wife (along with some artisan oils).

Merry Christmas. Just finished watching "Scrooged" with my wife and son. He had never watched it, which made me feel like I might have failed as a father. Then I discovered he hadn't watched "Groundhog Day", and it removed all doubt. Now we are watching "Groundhog Day."

Christmas themed "dad joke" to celebrate the day - Everybody told me to put my turkey in the freezer to keep it fresh, but that's nonsense. Put it in and when I checked 5 hours later it was dead.

Got my first present from my wife. It is a Navage nasal system. I always have sinus problems but since Covid, I haven't been able to breathe through my nose. I am producing mucus at a crazy rate. Just used it for the first time, and my nose was so closed that only about a quarter of the salt solution got sucked out. It was pooling at the back of my throat, and what I spit out was red, black, and nasty. Right now I'm breathing out of my nose for the first time in a long time.
Merry Christmas! I wanted to give you all a bloody mucus story.

It's funny how little Christmas traditions persevere.

My girlfriend and I were opening our parents' stockings they mailed to us, and our own stockings we put together for each other. Her family - wraps everything individually that goes in the stocking - including tiny bags of shortbread and other snacks, it's the way it's always been. My family - it all just just gets stuffed in the stocking without wrapping, it's the way it's always been.

We still do what we do, distinctly from each other, probably because of what her Danish great grandparents did 100 years ago in the Midwest, and what my Estonian great grandparents did 100 years ago in the northeast. And maybe further back than that, but our collective parents remember back close to 80 years as it is.

My wife's family does every gift individually while everyone watches. y family distributes all the gifts and everyone opens at the same time.
