As if viruses weren't enough, here comes the Murder Hornets!

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/murder-...united-states/

Good gravy, hornets 3 times as big as your standard variety hornet. If these things come to northern Ohio I'm moving.

There are some fascinating and terrifying videos of these guys on youtube. I watched one murder hornet colony v. murder hornet colony battle. In another one, a bee hive lured one in and then swarmed and killed it. They didn't even sting it to death, they roasted it alive somehow by raising its body temperature. For revenge, I guess. (Bees in their native territories have learned to deal with them, of course bees here have not.)

I can't even believe I remember this, but there was actually a thread here about murder hornets in 2004. (We didn't call them that back then, but they're one in the same)

30 Hornets vs. 30,000 Bees - Front Office Football Central

The video from the thread no longer works, but you can find variations of it on youtube.

Though I prefer the ones where the bees win:

I saw that probably a year ago. Amazing stuff.

I've had cicada killers in my yard, and while they aren't generally aggressive, they are huge. Aggressive hornets the size of cicada killers sound awful.

But can the murder hornets attack a human with covid and then pass covid to their next victim?

I work in pest control. Every year, we get the calls of panic about the giant bees/wasps/hornets/yellow jackets around the cicada killers season. People don't know what they are and completely freak out. I try to tell them they are harmless, and the best course of action to get rid of them is swat them with a tennis racket. I can only imagine this year, every cicada killers call is going to be a murder hornet call. *sigh*

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a murder hornets head?
