The Barry Zito Blows (Reverse Mojo) Thread

The setup: At Xmas this year when my family gathered to exchange and open gifts, I opened up the large box my brother gave me. I shook out and held up each piece of clothing in the box so everyone could get a good look. He went a little overboard and I ended up with about 6 additions to my wardrobe.

The festivities hit a bit of a hiccup, however, when I took out the big, black shirt with the SF Giants logo across the front. As I shook open the shirt I saw in my line of vision as my brother's face fell. A bit puzzled, I flipped the shirt around to discover a huge ZITO 75 emblazoned across the back. Now, Barry Zito has been a favorite whipping boy in our family for a while. So it was funny to hear my brother immediately start apologizing and saying he didn't have any idea it was a Zito shirt.

Of course, I laughed it off and declared I would root extra hard for Zito this season, and wear the shirt every day he pitches. So what the hell, I will keep track of my shirt mojo here. Perhaps the thread can double as a place for general SF Giants discussion.

Barry Zito gets his first start of the season tonight at the Padres. Shirt...on.

Probably better than my Schmidt T-shirt I still have, which I got only because they were out of Bonds T-shirts at Pac Bell Park. Perhaps its time to invest in a new player.

I'm just waiting for next year when I can buy a Posey shirt. And I really hope Zito can at least pitch well enough to be a solid #4. He really does bust his ass by all accounts, and it's not his fault he was offered an obscenely ridiculous contract.

Ok, so the reverse mojo thing may take a while to take effect.

Hot weather, hot Zito. That's the theory.

Wish I had one of those Manny Pacquiao Giants bobbleheads they gave away yesterday. Pretty damn cool little item.

Barry versus the hated Dodgers. Zito was awesome last time out. Must have been the hot weather.

It must be hot somewhere tonight.

A Dodger fan gave me a little bit of a bad time over my Zito shirt at the supermarket today. Well, I think he was a Dodger fan. He had needle marks on his arms, appalling personal hygiene, vacant eyes and a limited vocabulary. So, a pretty safe bet.

No, that about sums it up perfectly. The eyes are a dead give away though.

Barry is on a roll. I'm not washing the shirt until his next non-quality start. Plus, I am low on laundry detergent and not washing much just now anyway.

6.1IP 8H 3BB 5K 4ER...not a terrible line but not a quality start. So, the shirt gets a much needed washing this week.

Manny Pacquiao bobblehead, Lincecum bobblehead, Star Trek foam fingers...seems like the Giants marketing department is working harder to attract fans this year.

I'm actually on the verge of scooping Zito up for my fantasy team. I'm struggling in the pitching dept., have Webb on the DL, Santana (Ervin) on the DL, Burnett sucks, Meche really isn't helping the cause, Kazmir eh, Harang and Harden, tried a quick fix with Scott Richmond but that didn't pan out as he got blasted by the Yanks tonight.....I think Zito has a turn against the Mets coming up, so I will be rooting for him to sport a line in the range of .1IP, 10 ER....afterwards I sure as hell hope he becomes the comeback player of the yr!!

Zito deserved better than that line, too. Bochy and his epic managerial skillz left him in too damn long, and then a broken bat bloop that just made it over Renteria's head into center allowed the last 2 runners charged to Zito to score.

Just looking at the stands on TV for this Nationals series, it's not looking good. Maybe it's just a weekday/night series against a team with no history or star players? Or could AT&T Park one day see Candlestickian attendance figures?

A player with a 30 game hit streak seems like a decent reason to come to the park, but you can't ignore the "Nationals suck" factor of driving people away.

I'm not sure what is more shocking, Zito's ability to pitch fairly well for an extended period of time this year, or Dontrelle Willis holding it together long enough to pitch 1-hit ball for 6 innings last night.

The thought is seeing a combined line of 14 IP and 2 ERs from those two in one evening boggles the mind.

Beat writers are getting a head start on this game by writing the first sentence ahead of time.

"Barry Zito pitched fairly well over 6 innings but fell apart in the seventh, sending the Giants to a 5-1 defeat and breaking a four game winning streak."

Pujols burst out of his power slump with two homers, and Chris Duncan drove in the go-ahead run with a two-out double off Zito in the seventh inning of the Cardinals' 6-2 victory Saturday night.

Didn't exactly take esp to predict this one. He's been doing that all season.

When I created this thread I fully expected Zito would stink on ice this season, giving me lots of opportunities to rant here. This extended streak of mediocrity isn't giving me much to work with.

LOL I like how they refer to Pujols' "power slump" and he has more homers than any 2 Giants put together.

The Giants stink on the road but maybe Zito can do something else besides be mediocre at Florida.

The Giants are over .500 with the worst offense going.
