Maybe part of it is people like my father-in-law, who didn't watch this season because the NFL showed support for BLM and had the black national anthem played at some games. Plus, the Pats sucked, so why would he watch?

I had little interest in the game this year mainly due to the teams. I only had it on in the background. When the game became lopsided I turned it off.

I guess I was rooting for the Chiefs but really I did not care who won.

Along with the stuff other people mentioned, also a relatively low key (IMO) halftime and pre-warned low expectations for notable commercials (both of which usually draw non-football viewers)

I read that the SB ratings drop was inline with the regular season drop. 7-9%.

Seems like a mix.

I have some family who stopped watching the NFL this year because of #BLM, etc.

I know some people who aren't football fans who would have watched at a party in normal years who didn't this year b/c of pandemic.

It was a team that won last year vs. a QB who has won a ton. So maybe not the most compelling game going in.

And the game became a blowout, so you didn't get the "y'all have got to turn this on now!" buzz in the 3rd quarter.

I'll also throw out the number of bars and restaurants that are closed right now that otherwise would have been open also affecting the ratings.

And it might not be enough to affect ratings, but also the number of people who watched on an illegal stream rather than through legal means.

I found it interesting that a local bar and restaurant said that in previous years, they used to close because of lack of business during the SB, but this year they wanted to give their workers some extra money so they opened and encouraged people to order from them.

Notable only because that is the kind of low-cost, non-splashy move that good teams make under the radar to help with team stability.

And I am not used to seeing Washington make moves like that.

That's gotta be the play.

But for the brothers, this would be the classic:

(1) Pats sign him for a team-favorable one-year deal.
(2)He plays amazing.
(3)He signs a huge multi-year contract somewhere else with a ton of guaranteed money.
(4)Age catches up to him, and he underperforms until that team can finally release him.

But I think that he'll just take a team-friendly deal with Pittsburgh to play with his bros. That's actually pretty cool.

Also the Steelers have a bad cap situation, and while Ben might retire or restructure they have their own FA to sign before going outside. The only situation that would seem to make sense would be both Ben and JJ take massively under market deals, not sure how realistic that really is, and this version of the Steelers feels like it’s on the downswing whereas presumably he’s looking to go somewhere he can win a championship.

Not sure where JJ fits with the Steelers. I believe he is more of a 3-4 DE and the 3-4 LB and the Steelers have lots of money invested in Cam Heyward and Stephon Tuitt at the DE position. I don't believe he could replace Bud Dupree as the OLB opposite TJ.

I'm not sure JJ is a full-time player anymore. He'd be great as a pass rush specialist to rotate with Heyward and Tuitt.

Seems like the Packers would be the natural fit, but I can see him wanting to get into the NY or LA market, too. Also, would ring chasing with the Bucs or Chiefs be a surprise?

Ick. I feel like Wentz is the booby prize in this unprecedented season of QB musical chairs. Paying a premium price for Wentz while rumors are still swirling and solidifying around some of the league's absolute best QBs seems like an obviously bone-headed move for IND, who has some attractive pieces.

The stories are that Wentz is a locker room cancer.

He played horribly.

His contract is such that they can't afford the cap hit of cutting him, but they can trade him in a manageable way.

I just can't believe that they wouldn't take 2 second rounders for him.

I'd take a 5th for him if it meant clearing his contract from the books without cutting him and leaving no quarterback controversy between him and Hurts. The Bears should drop their offer to a second instead of a first, and the Colts should drop one of the seconds completely. Why bring in a QB that doesn't want to be there when your job depends on it and why pay a lot for a QB that apparently doesn't want to go anywhere else.
