Xbox One vs. PS4
Which do you prefer, if you could only buy one for the whole next generation today?

Note: I'm an outlier here - my family and I actually USE the Kinect on a regular basis, and I'm actually excited about the improvements to it. So all of my reasons probably fall flat for most others.

I'll end up with both, but XBox One gets my vote purely because of my current 360 usage really ...

I've always preferred the PS controller, although the 360 controller is pretty solid too (the orignal Xbox controller was awful). The 360 won this generation for me because online leagues in the NCAA football series (plus a few other online games like Left 4 Dead). More people had the Xbox version, so I ended up buying the 360 version of games for the most part.

Interesting to read the "why"s above. PS4 for me, only because of MLB the Show. If the XBOX had a baseball game on par, it'd be more of an even race.

Not enough data yet...
If someone said, you can get one of them free today only, I'd choose the ps4, which was different than a week or so ago. That could change though depending on a number of things... mainly exclusive games. Probably January or so I'll make my choice. |

PS4 for me, can't handle the XBOX controller. I also like the way the media stuff works on the PS vs the XBOX and for my future wife that has been a huge bonus.

I let my kids do a week this week in my current events class on "what they wanted to present on", they had to research a topic that interested them, and present today. One did this very topic. From what I saw, Xbox blows the PS4 out of the water. And I'm a PS3 guy. Either way, I won't be buying the next gen for a while, not enough interest from me.

I prefer XBox, but mostly because I want to keep the same button layout I am used to. Back when I owned a PS2 and the original XBOX I always used to press the wrong button multiple times when switching between systems and playing games that featured heavy use of the X button.

PS4 simply because of first party track record. I don't care about launch, I have this feeling that in 2, 3, 4 years it will be much like this generation where Sony has the only exclusives I care about.

Same for me. Went with PS3 this gen because of the exclusive lineup and if I had to chose right now I'd go with it on that track record and the fact that more of the announced PS4 exclusives look interesting to me (The Order: 1886, inFamous: Second Sun, Rime, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, plus knowing Naughty Dog and and Quantic Dreams are working on games) compared to those on the XBox One (mostly D4 and Quantum Break right now). |

PS4, mainly due to being a fan of many of the Sony exclusives. I don't plan to buy anything for a while as I need to get through my steam backlog first.
I will probably won't pick up a PS4/XB1 until early 2015, and by then hopefully any RROD style problems will have been fixed. |

Also this. I don't plan on getting either one of the systems until they have found a good chip set that doesn't overheat or die frequently. Hopefully then they can be had for 249 or less or I might just go with a Steam Box or something in that direction.

I never got a PS3 after being a PS and PS2 fan.
This generation went to XBOX... One thing I dislike is the cost of XBOX Live and have always heard PSN is free. Does this continue in the next generation? I am a cyber security fearist I suppose and refuse to enter a CC into a "game box" which means we buy the annual gold pass cards through retail...which means paying more than we otherwise would for a family pass etc. Really like the current XBOX control ergonomically, so concerned to see how the redisgn works...but beyond that... Id love to find an unbiased break down of the two, because to me right now it looks like PS4 wins on price PS4 wins because XBOX includes Kinect (which is of no value and minimal concern to me) PS4 wins on free online play XBOX wins familiarity XBOX wins on controller what am I missing? |

PSN will cost for next gen.. I hated it on the ps3 compared to x360. For me, the kinect is huge, but my kids play kinect games. I've read the ps4 controller is much improved. Games, who knows at this point. Still a toss up.. but after watching the xb1 UI video.. I'm back to leaning on the xb1. |

I've never liked any of the PS controllers. They just don't work for me ergonomically. I always get hand cramps after using them for more than 20 or 30 minutes.

Yes, but Sony also gives you a lot of free games with your subsciption.

Family Pass is gone, but for Xbox ONE you may only need one Live account depending on what everyone is doing - check the site for details. With individual accounts, you can usually buy the cards at retail cheaper than the Microsoft auto-renewal - Amazon and others regularly sell a year for $40 or less.

I think I'd read Microsoft is planning on continuing their Games for Gold which is similar to the PS+ instant game service, though so far the selection offered in Games for Gold hasn't been as good as the PlayStation Plus offerings. I think that with a PS+ subscription you can get PS4 games for the instant collection even without having a PS4 yet, so that's one thing that will be one thing that will have me leading towards the PS4 when I decide which console to get. The thing is, if you let your PS+ subscription end, you don't get to play the games anymore. the XBOX free games are permanently free whether you let your subscription lapse or not. I think that's why the difference in the quality of the offerings seems bigger than it is. I for one have played the shit out of almost every free 360 game so far and have already gotten my subscription fee for the year back in the form of those free games. I dig both sides giving out free games, but I like the permanence of the free 360 games.

Have a PS4 preordered, mainly because MLB The show and some EA games like NHL, Madden and NCAA that you can't buy in Spain but that i can buy the digital version through PSN with my fake Usa account or to import them from USA as the PS3/4 are region free.
The PS3 and now hopefully 4 are the consoles with the more user base in Spain also, so i find it easier to play with friends.

PSN is no longer free; however, you will be able to access certain subscription services, such as Netflix, without having a paid PSN account (required for multiplayer). Xbox 360, you had to be a Live Gold member to access stuff like Netflix, so there may still be some differences there. The DualShock 4 is much improved over the DualShock 3, but I still don't know how it stacks up to the Xbox One controller. |

They've changed the feel of the analog sticks. There's a concavity that wasn't there on the PS3 sticks, which makes it easier to 'grip' them, if that makes sense. I want to say - although I couldn't compare side-by-side to see - that the placement and spacing of the sticks are moderately different, also. The controller felt slightly larger, but that might just be the placement of the sticks playing tricks on my brain. The L2/R2 triggers felt more responsive. |

I have both. But XBL Games with Gold hasn't measured up to this point. Take this month for example. A World of Keflings Iron Brigade Let's compare that to PS+ in November. Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen ibb & obb Binary Domain PS+ also has free games for the Vita and the PS4. They also throw in suprise mini games and old PSP or PS1/2 games. |

+1. If they're going to continue to deliver the value that they have thus far, it's a no-brainer for me. Between my PS3/PS4/Vita, I'm going to pick up 4-5 games a month for free for what amounts to about $4/month. |

Neither right now. Will wait to see which one cranks out better exclusives. These are practically identical machines and this is all manufactured hype that is bad for gamers.

Huh? Bad for games? Seriously? It's probably better for games than anything that had ever previously taken place. The two consoles have pushed each other to create new and inventive ideas. I was on record above stating I wasn't likely to get one. I think now I will likely get both. For PS4, MLB the show and remote play to the Vita are massive things for me. For Xbox, the more I read about the multimedia features, the more I get excited. My wife and neices and nephews love using the kinect and it will likely become a staple in my house. I love what they are doing and I don't think any of this is bad for games. Just my opinion. |

Games are built for consoles instead of consoles being built for games. Consoles have become more cost prohibitive for game development of major titles and create artificial exclusivity. There is nothing innovative here. They are just packaging outdated computer hardware inside a clever marketing campaign and some proprietary interface. And now they can charge for stuff that should be free because people get suckered in thinking they are on board the next big thing. Consoles should be built to support games, not the other way around. |

This is a chicken/egg argument I just do not care about. Both systems have exclusive titles AT LAUNCH that I want to play. Give developers more time and it will be nuts what will be done. Oudated computer hardware? Maybe. Are they fun and enjoyable? Ummm, yeah, they are. Ill leave the complaining to others. I think pc, xbox and ps owners can all say they have a terrific system and book of games. Of course i still remember playing games off of my trs 80 cassette drive, i am stunned at how far weve came in the last thirty years. |
