Such a good movie. We tried to watch the History Channel miniseries, and it just didn't hold a candle.

RIP. Wiki says he only had a HS education and not eligible to be a Mercury 7 astronaut. He had a pretty darn good career though.

There's certainly some amazing legendary status that he gets to be a part of, and he will always live in the annals of aviation greatness, but I have heard from multiple people who have had contact with him that he was a complete and total asshole. I think he believed everything that everyone ever said about him and insisted they treat him as such.
