Madden 10 Online Franchise - Interest and signup thread

This thread is only for people who are either interested in, or want to sign up for the Madden 10 FOFC Online Franchise. As we get more details on how it will work I'll post them in this thread.

We are going on a first come first serve basis. If you're on the fence about joining, and you'd like the Pats, but someone else a week later decides they are 100% positive and wants the Pats, then *they* will get the Pats.

If you have other ideas/house rules/settings you'd like to propose then this is also the thread to do so.

This league is only for dedicated owners. There is nothing more dissapointing than an owner who is non-communicative. Because this league will have so many owners, communication, participation, and a willingness to work with your opponents every week to get your game in is an absolute necessity.

Known Online Franchise Features
- 32 players supported
- live drafts
- player transactions
- league message boards
- manageable from ~ console, remotely through a web browser, or via a custom iPod Touch Application

Ideas/House Rules
- 8 Owners
- Simming a few weeks per season
- 3 day advance cycle
- 1 team per division
- Saturday/Wed advance days
- Everything is ok, as long as it's done in moderation...the deep ball, blitzing, scrambling, etc.
- Import NCAA 10 draft classes using real player names, while simming a sister NCAA career side by side.

* note * these ideas/house rules are not set in stone.

We'll come up with a basic set of rules as the release date draws nearer.

Also, for Madden, my suggestions might be only taking 8 owners, 1 per conference if it's possible, so we can move quicker. And I might suggest simming a few weeks a season to make it go quicker.

100% joking. The Colts would be my real choice, but they're already spoken for. (They've been my unofficial favorite for a few years now)

Tridola .. I think a 3 day game cycle is more then enough since there is no recruiting to worry about.

Put me in on the fence right now. With a 4 month old baby, and a job search looming, I can only do one football OD, and haven't decided between NCAA and Madden.

I'd be suckered in by a historical Madden dynasty, but who knows if that's even possible. But GEFL in Madden form = yes, please!

More likely, I will do that for myself in a singleplayer dynasty.

Fence as well for me, I'm a Niner fan and Sun grabbed them so if I'm in I would just grab a team from whatever division (thats the word you were looking for there DeTox) is available.

edit: Plus I haven't played Madden in years, so any NCAA-like supremecy will be non-existent.

I'm just going to say one thing to anyone who might be on the fence for any reason other than maybe a lack of time, other commitments, etc:

Madden 10 might completely suck (apparently again) but this will still be a lot of fun.

Not yet...my guess is they'll make the announcement @ E3 and then give the broken down (no pun intended) details via the blog either same day or next day.

It's already been said that the big announcement about the online feature will be the 1st day of E3. I agree that we'll probably get a blog about the breakdown of the features, but likely not until after all of the E3 hoopla is over.

I haven't bought a Madden game since 06 (yeah, I suck) but I have been considering getting this one...put me on the fence with the Packers (if we are going 1 team per division, my second choice would be the Chargers)

Just noticed the 1 team per division rule. That's kind of a drag if it sticks. It would be sweet to battle with Sun's Giners for the West. Plus, I pretty much hate every other NFL team. I could live with the Browns I suppose.

Put me on the fence with the Broncos or the Bengals.

I'm in and would prefer in the following order:

1. Giants
2. Dolphins
3. Saints
4. Broncos
5. Chargers
6. Bears

I'd look at pretty much any team if we need a certain division filled, etc.

ARGH! Hate it that I didn't check this earlier....so Spleen, any chance of a bribe for the Colts.

I'm definitely interested. Not sure who I'd take. Probably an AFC team, something I could build like the Jets, Chiefs, or Dolphins...Texans too if Balldog ends up with the Brownies....but I'll definitely take Colts if we end up having 2 leagues should the interest be that high.

If we really stick with 8 teams, there are going to be at least 2 leagues it looks like, so multiple people could get the same teams. Of course, I think it would be much more fun with 16 or even 32 human teams, although I know that would create logistical issues with every game being a human vs human game.

32 human teams would be very interesting. I think it's possible if we allow some liberal due dates. If people would have patience with it, it could be a lot of fun.

Still, I understand we'd need speeder 8 team leagues too.

12 could be fine and it doesn't have to be a team in each division, just an idea I had if we used 8 teams.

With no recruiting or anything I think 3 days is enough time to get stuff done because I feel like the offseason will take a bit more time then NCAA does, but I could be wrong.

You've said this about recruiting 3 or 4 times.

I don't understand why not having recruiting makes it easier to get games in. I don't know about anyone else, but there's never been a time when I said, "well, I could get my stuff done, but that damned recruiting!"

It's more about setting aside time to play the game. The extra 15-20 minutes for recruiting does not impact my ability to play.

+1. Recruiting rarely takes me more than 5 minutes. The only time it does for me is early in the year and even then it is a 10-15 minute process max.

Because its a thing people tend to forget to do or have byes and wait around to do. I've had countless times I couldn't advance even though everyone played their games who had them because people on byes and such didn't recruit, or people played but put off recruiting.

It might not seem like much but its something people push off till the end at times and that 15 minutes can cost a league 3 or 4 days.

Assuming these online dynasties have scouting, the draft and FA, I'm sure the offseason will take longer, but I think it is going to be much more fun.

I'd be interested in doing it as the Bears if no one has them. I preordered it yesterday as the online franchise mode sold me. I have some old friends from college that I had some monster franchises when we were roommates. We are looking to do that again. The online franchise seems like a lot of fun.

My only concern would be that I haven't played the game much over the last few years so I'll probably get slaughtered early on.

From my experience in NCAA (early on I was by far the worst player), everyone is very supportive whether you're really good or really bad.

It could work, but I think you would have to sim a certain number of the games or it will take forever to get through multiple seasons. For example, maybe you require everyone to sim half of your division games. Basically player versus player each team once and sim the second game against the same team.

People may have an issue with this as those are key games to getting into the playoffs. But it also provides some parity against superior stick skills.

Yep. I think simming 4 weeks is fair.

Well...I dunno I'm not a big fan of simming games, especially if I wind up losing all 4 games and miss the playoffs by 1 game. I think if we stick to a strict advance schedule like...

Advance 1 = Sun - Wed
Advance 2 = Thu - Sat

That way everybody has a weekend day to play their game. At that rate we'll knock out a season in 8.5 weeks maximum, and the playoffs will be done in 2 weeks maximum (probably less). That means in 12 months time, assuming the offseason takes say, 2 weeks, we'll get anywhere from 5-6 years...maybe 7 if things start picking up down the line (kind of like the EBFL).
