Awesome news Dennis, great to hear. I second Lathum regarding your mother, after being conditioned got so long to think it was just another seizure it is easy to imagine why she did what she did. Hopefully she is not being too hard on herself, especially as things continue to improve.

That's wonderful, Dennis. The fact your sister actually got frustrated with you guys is, IMO, a good thing. Too easy to let things go and take it as it comes when you lack energy or will to live. The sign she had the energy to get frustrated and the willingness to express it tells me she has considerable fight in her, and that's never a bad thing in these situations.

As for what happened with your mother, I would imagine the issues your sister had in this accident were already in place (stroke, lungful of water) when your mother found her. While I am sure getting her to a hospital would have helped things a lot, I can't imagine that your sister was going to avoid the more serious circumstances of her worsening condition, whether she went straight to the hospital or not. So I hope your mom isn't beating herself up too much over it (although I can't imagine she isn't).

Probably the last update before I travel back home...I might post once more.

I am completely shocked by the turn around my sister has made..The human mind, the power of prayer and personal desire are a great thing.

My sister today has been talking, holding conversations, tracking what we have discussed...she even excused me to go to my friends house to watch the BYU saying she knew I needed a break from the situation. (Probably needed a break from me)

They had her stand and walk in place for 5 minutes and she did so without pain, slowing or weakness in either side.

She has full use of her limbs and everything.

Now one thing I am noticing and my other sister has noticed is that when she talks it is a little slower than usual but it can be because she is weak or because of the stroke....we won't officially know until they start doing mental capacity testing.

Right now this is amazing and I am proud of her for fighting and not giving up when she could have. I thank everyone here for their prayers...I think having literally hundreds of people praying for her plus a blessing has helped a lot...whether your religious or not, to say that this was nothing short of a miracle is pretty crazy.

Alright...finally update...

And now the real story...

My sister is an addict...she snorts her prescription pills and mixes what she gets from others. She snorted a xanax, ms combo...it caused her to pass out in the tub. to where we have gone through all of this.

Her addictions led her here and her addictions have led her to another place....Rehab. She has chosen to live with my father, follow his rules and enter into at least a 30 day in house patient rehab system. After she is released, they will be enrolling her into school at UNLV, and not forcing her to take a major yet...although it will probably be medical, we will see what her guidance counselor says though.

She will be receiving the same offer my other sister received. She goes to school full time and my father pays for it...she wants extra money, to play with and what not...she gets a job, but has to follow the family plan for savings, investing and budgeting...which is a structured way that worked for our other sister.

To me, I am finally happy to come to the finalization of this. I do not handle major stress and to where I was the oldest son in the family I was pegged to deal with the emotional stuff of talking to my sister, talking to my mother and talking to the hospital. I was also responsible for talking to the financial aid worker for the hospital.

The prayers that are needed now are for strength that she can work through this plan and succeed. Becoming an inspiration for others that hit rock bottom...where she was 1 week ago, was having her brothers, sister and father getting to Utah to bury her....she has been given that second chance...she is going to relish in it...and make it hers!

Wonderful to hear Dennis and although I'm sure your family is aware of it, once she's enrolled, there's also UNLV's CAPS as a resource she may want to look into.

UNLV Student Counseling and Psychological Services

is the website.

Dad sent me a brief update...

Sister's left leg is numb and her memory isn't doing to hot...we were told by the dr's that some of this stuff might come out after, not to be to shocked..blah blah...

Anyways, nothing to shocking...sister is excited to be where she is and they are working on getting her into the place she needs to be. The one good thing...she went through detox while she was under.

I wish I was coming here to write good news.

My sister who was in the coma and made the recovery passed in her sleep this afternoon.

She just started a new job, the first she was able to do and it was challenging and she started to go back to work and she cleaned up her life. She was happy and doing great.

We will not know the cause of death until next week.

I am sitting here in Buffalo with great friends supporting me now (RendeR and Telle) and wishing I was in Utah hugging my mom through this.

Expect postings from me tonight in the drunk guy thread...
