Nice title.

BTW, for people who still don't know why they should be on Twitter, it's for times like these. I've been sitting at my desk laughing like a hyena for a half hour.

Too long to read right now at work but I skimmed the beginning. Is it Deadspin's guess that she doesn't exist or actually people admitting she doesn't exist? Crazy stuff. Sadly people are so shocked by Tiger Woods, Lance Armstrong, Barry Bonds... I think this shit isn't new and it happened all the time before the internet but was just never discovered or people chose to cover it up. He probably wonders how he could get away with it for so long.

It's the former, but the circumstantial evidence they uncovered is very strong and compelling.

Notre Dame releases a statement that Manti notified the school on Decemeber 26th that he was the victim of a hoax.

Really interested to see how he could've been hoaxed into having a fake girlfriend. The handjobs must have sucked.

Sounds like he knew Deadspin was getting close and tried get ahead of the story.

If he was hoaxed he's one of the dumbest people on the planet. Didn't he supposedly date this girl for 3 years?

EDIT: So they knew each other for 3 years, but only started dating in early 2012.

Can someone help me get #FakeStrong trending on twitter.

If Lance only knew that all it took to get him out of the news cycle was for a fake person to fake die from cancer.

Hilarious story. The guy is either full of shit or is dating Tuiasosopo but doesn't want people to find out he's gay so they did it this way till people started to pry into it and figure things out.

I tip my cap to Manti.

He played the media perfectly. His only problem was that he didn't realize they couldn't continue the story once it was told.

It's too bad it didn't get him the Heisman.

I should edit this to add that this is more a rant against what my former profession has become these days... lazy, arrogant, too fond of being the story rather than telling the story. This won't be the wake-up call the national media needs, but it should be - before the stakes involved are far more serious.

As for my own feelings about Te'o - he might be an amazing athlete, but he's still a kid. Kids do stupid things. His father (and maybe his school - not clear yet whether Notre Dame was part of this) should have known better.

I'm not seeing any journalistic fallout yet, but this is going to be devastating for a number of careers. Pete Thamel, The New York Times, a whole lot of other media outlets got suckered in a big time way. To a certain degree, sports media is probably easier to fool than anyone other than entertainment media. But there are some big names who will pay a price for falling for this story.

I'm not ready to believe Manti's story yet. It seems hard to believe he was a complete sap and didn't have a role in this.

Does this anyone's view of the national championship game? If you take Manti at his word, it definitely would be an excuse for his performance and that of his team. I still think Bama rolls Notre Dame, but it does give you pause.

No, I think Alabama is simply that good, and the SEC a full notch above the rest of college football this year. This pains me to admit, being a Big Ten fan.

I do wonder, now, if Rudy Ruettiger was really a 45-year-old former marine who played a little semi-pro ball and was sad about missing out on a college experience.

From a journalistic standpoint, reminds me of the Wire Season 5.

I'm sure Te'o was in on it. Not only did he help to fabricate part of the story, there isn't any way I'm believing that a star linebacker from Notre Dame was romantically involved with someone he knew for years but never met face-to-face.
