I have been to a furry convention, but it wasn't intentional.

I know someone else that (sorta) happened to believe it or not.

Not the convention proper but rather coincidentally found themselves staying at the designated convention hotel.

A friend of mien tried to drag me to a furry meetup once. I calmly suggested he stop doing drugs.

That was exactly what happened to me! I was working in San Mateo and was dating a woman in Orange County. Flew her up for a weekend and got a nice hotel room to try to make a classy weekend out of it....except for that whole surprise furry convention thing.

This was right around 2000 and I only knew whispers of what furries were thanks to visiting the dark corners of the internet & she had absolutely no clue. When we came around the corner to the hotel it was strange that they apparently had a fully decked out mascot out there...and then another one...and then another one...until I was like "O SHIT! I KNOW WHAT THIS IS!!" and then breathlessly described the whole scene to this woman in 10-minutes of bug-eyed excitement. I'm sure she was impressed.

Later we ran into the 'Art Show' and she liked to draw, so she was like "why don't we go take a look??" & I said "that art is going to be 90% cartoon wolf dongs" & she curled up her nose and looked at me like I was crazy. I was not.

I was saying they should make a “The Fast and The Furriest” movie, when my wife said she was sure someone already had.

Tangentially related to above. Was watching YT Border Security: Canada. There was an episode where a guy identified as a furry (e.g. they found his outfit). They checked his laptop for child porn and bestiality.

I forget exactly what was said but basically they said furry with furry was not bestiality. Had a chuckle with that.

No judgement or kink shaming please!

YT video I referenced above. See about 11:20 and about 19:05 for the furry guy.

I have several years of dealing with Anthrocon people in Pittsburgh. You can def tell who the furries are even without their suits. I think it’s largely harmless fun. Some of the outfits are way beyond mascot level good. These people bring far too much luggage. I don’t know why you’d have a dress up event in Pittsburgh in late June when it’s pits of hell hot. Most of the stories about these people are probably made up

I figured it's semi-mainstream knowledge because old guard CSI had an episode about it like a decade ago and CSI seemed to specialize in stuff that seemed edgy to boomers but was just merely a little weird to the rest of us

I'm not, but I have a friend since HS whose 20-something son has been a furry for years.

Let's just say that being a furry is the least of this young man's mental issues.

I remember that episode but it was around 20 years ago because I stopped watching TV series in the mid-2000s and it was before the main dude (whoever played Gil) quit the show.

As disturbing as furries are, it is really not even close to the most disturbing fetish. It actually seems pretty harmless.

We've already got a "reboot" of the show, trying to nostalgia mine the old one. So it's not like this is new knowledge.
