From the very beginning, it was clear that our game hosting Notre Dame was one of those where the computer wanted to win. After stopping Notre Dame on their first drive, a muffed punt on our 1 set them up for a TD. It was my fault, as I should have moved my returner out of the way. First my stud WR Razzono went down for the game, then my 97-rated QB Sampson went down. They got a kickoff return for a TD. Every time we pulled even, they jumped back ahead. Still, we hung in there, and early in the 4th, we trailed only 34-31. A pick six put us in a position where we had to press things a bit, and things quickly went to shit, as Notre Dame rattled off 21 points to win 55-31.

Next we made the trip to Michigan to play the number 4 team in the land. Let me tell you, they are committed to running in Ann Arbor. Even trailing by 40+ points, they kept trotting out double wing formations and running the option and such. We won 63-10. We're up to #7 following the win, one ahead of Notre Dame, who had jumped past us after their victory. With #3 Ohio State and #1 USC still on our schedule, we should have a chance to fight back into the championship hunt. Our strength of schedule should be crazy high.

I cannot tell you how tempted I was to shut off the game during the Notre Dame fiasco. Players on top of my QB almost instantly after the snap. Balls consistently bouncing their way. If there isn't a code that makes the CPU almost unbeatable sometimes, it sure seems that way. Anyhow, I did the right thing, and we'll see if I can get back into the thick of the title hunt.

Indiana (7-1) is up to #3 in the BCS polls following victories over Northwestern, OSU (who was #2 at the time), and Minnesota. #1 Clemson and #2 Texas are both undefeated. Clemson's toughest remaining game is #4 FSU (this week, I think), and Texas has #5 Notre Dame on the schedule. Our remaining games are Illinois, Penn State, Purdue, and USC. Last season, Clemson was #1 late in the season but ultimately fell, allowing us into the BCS championship game. Will history repeat?

I can't tell you who the other guys are off hand, but I can tell you that Indiana's Longshore is running away with it. I'll check next time I play.

There's an off chance we could meet again for the championship, with us at #3 right now, and ND at #5.

I finally got to play again last night. We hosted Illinois and beat them something like 56-20. #1 Clemson lost to FSU, 28-21, but we dropped to #4 after FSU and Boise State jumped past us.

I've been trying to get Longshore all of IU's rushing records. He needs something like 600 yards in our final three games to grab the rushing yards mark. He already owns every other rushing record for IU. He's always been injury-prone, so hopefully he can avoid the injury bug for these final games.

I forget--Do bowl games count on career stats?

One note. I shortened to 6 minute quarters this season to help keep my stats from being too wacky.

Indiana travelled to Happy Valley and smacked around 6-3 Penn State, 63-31 (or something like that). Zach Longshore amassed 220 on the ground and 80 in the air for 3 TDs, including a 91-yard rushing TD in the second quarter - the longest run of his career. He needs 478 yards to become IU's all-time rushing leader. We plan to run him till he drops next week against Purdue. Maybe even try to break IU's 377 yards in one game record. Longshore is also within striking distance of Indiana's single-season rushing record.

Quarterback Sampson is 2 TDs shy of 100 for his career. He is also 4 away from breaking Kellen Lewis's single season passing TD record.

Mixed news as far as our hopes for a second consecutive championship: Georgia took down #1 Florida State, but Rutgers has jumped ahead of us, so we are still at #4.

Notre Dame's championship hopes died in a 32-31 loss against Texas. They should have gone for a TD rather than settling for a field goal late in the game.

Next up: Purdue. Then we take on EF27's Trojans to finish out the season. GO HOOSIERS!

With my daughter home sick today, I was able to play Purdue during her nap.

Zach Longshore no longer needs to worry about any records, as he owns a whole bunch of them. I must have had 5 or 6 of those little "That does it, he has broken X record" comments today. En route to a 70-20 victory over Purdue, Longshore had 34 carries for 540 yards and 9 TDs. I basically ran him every time he was on the field. Sampson hit on 8 of 8 passes when Longshore was taking breathers.

He now owns the following records:

Longshore broke two records held by USC's Mike Archie.

540 rushing yards in a single game
84 rushing TDs in his career

In Week 15, Indiana travelled to Southern California to take on the Trojans. It was a back-and-forth battle in the first half, with USC knocking out Zach Longshore in the 1st quarter. A missed field goal and a missed extra point allowed us to go into the half nursing a 14-13 lead. Longshore returned in the second half, and went to business immediately, scoring on a long run on the second play of the half. The dirty Trojans knocked out Sampson later in the third, so Longshore was asked to carry us, and he delivered. He finished with 149 yards and 2 TDs, and we carried the day 35-26. That was where the good news ended.

Heisman Trophy

Florida State's Herman Tyree won the Heisman on the strength of 1610 receiving yards and 18 TDs. Longshore's 2067 rushing yards, 39 rushing TDs, 520 receiving yards and 5 receiving TDs weren't enough to even make it a close vote. The fans in Bloomington think that for the second time that an Indiana player wearing #11 was screwed by the Heisman voters (Antwaan Randle El being the other). Longshore is now up to 5505 rushing yards in his career with 86 rushing TDs. Not bad considering he missed most of last season with an injury. Then again, he probably wouldn't have stuck around had he not gotten hurt during his junior season. In any case, he will go down as one of the most beloved players in Indiana football history.

BCS Standings

Indiana needed help to get back to the BCS championship game, and got none. To Galaxy's probable delight, the Golden Domes probably cost us our shot. Instead, we will travel to the Rose Bowl to take on Washington, who beat us on a fumble return in overtime in the Rose Bowl two seasons ago. At least we have a shot at revenge there.

Indiana, with the help of 2 rushing and 1 receiving TD by senior RB Zach Longshore, defeated Washington 35-26 to win the Rose Bowl and avenge our loss to them in the same bowl 2 seasons ago. Coupled with losses by everyone above us but Texas, we finished number 2 in the final poll. Texas defeated Rutgers easily, 38-12, to win the 2013 National Championship.

With lots of talk about the Heisman Trophy, going out on top with a championship, and owning all major receiving records in Indiana history, we were able to convince senior WR Chad Razzano to come back. So I'm coming back for one more season at IU as well. I figured it's very unusual to have a good team in Indiana -- I might as well enjoy it for a while longer. GO HOOSIERS!

Week one of the season saw us thrash Kentucky 72-17. We got a little pass happy, took like 7 sacks, and rushed for negative yardage when the sacks were factored in. We'll have to be more balanced next week at Rutgers. We decided to schedule some BCS busters this season to knock them out of contention. Indiana is number 4, Notre Dame 3, and Michigan is 2. Texas, fresh off of their championship, start off ranked number 1.

Longshore is now up to 5505 rushing yards in his career with 86 rushing TDs. Not bad considering he missed most of last season with an injury. Then again, he probably wouldn't have stuck around had he not gotten hurt during his junior season. In any case, he will go down as one of the most beloved players in Indiana football history. Kodos Resident Alien Join Date: Jun 2001	Indiana, with the help of 2 rushing and 1 receiving TD by senior RB Zach Longshore, defeated Washington 35-26 to win the Rose Bowl and avenge our loss to them in the same bowl 2 seasons ago. Coupled with losses by everyone above us but Texas, we finished number 2 in the final poll. Texas defeated Rutgers easily, 38-12, to win the 2013 National Championship. Code: 1. Texas 14-0 2. So I'm coming back for one more season at IU as well. I figured it's very unusual to have a good team in Indiana -- I might as well enjoy it for a while longer. Kodos Resident Alien Join Date: Jun 2001	Week one of the season saw us thrash Kentucky 72-17. We got a little pass happy, took like 7 sacks, and rushed for negative yardage when the sacks were factored in. We'll have to be more balanced next week at Rutgers. We decided to schedule some BCS busters this season to knock them out of contention. Indiana is number 4, Notre Dame 3, and Michigan is 2.
