How many home games should be the max in RFL?

6 and 6.
If you play in a place like Happy Valley or something like that, it could potentially be a HUGE advantage with the extra home game. 1 game could be the difference between a Sun bowl bid and a National Championship game bid.

I think a neat option might be 6-6 standard, but teams with a losing record the previous season get a 7th home game for a little NFL-style parity assistance.
Just thought I would throw that idea out there. |

Would you like to schedule your 7th home game for the 2010 season now then?

If you think we're going to have a losing season, you are sadly mistaken my friend.
I noticed the schedulers screwed us by having us visit Happy Valley again. So much for the concept of a home-and-home series. |

I'm up for coming to Indiana, if I can switch another away game from Visiting to Home.

I'm not sure that's something we can change. I know the opponents in conference are locked, but am not sure if the home/away status is. It's probably too much work fixing that sort of thing for everyone. And you'll wax us in either venue.

Ok. I'm pretty sure you can flip/flop a conference game from home to away or vice versa, you just can't reschedule it. It's up to you man, I'm willing to travel. I wound up getting all 4 of my Human v Human games in my house anyway.

If people want to research home-vs.-away, I'd be willing to fix that for conference opponents. I just don't want to do the research on that for all RFL teams myself. I guess it might not be too hard with the info I've already collected in the 2008 summary thread.

I think 7 as a max is good. Does the game even let you do more than 7? I've never tried. I could be comfortable with a team having 8 home games, as long as they don't do that in back-to-back years.
Even more fair might be to limit teams to 14 home games total in two consecutive seasons. I would never suggest actually implementing this, because it's not cool to ask someone to keep track of that, but I think that would be the most fair way to go. In any case, for fairness and ease of use, I would say to cap at 7 each year.

At the moment, we have two teams with 8 home games on the schedule.

I don't think you can alter conference games at all. It's set in stone I believe.

I'll gladly play EMU, WKU on the road.
I don't think it matters except in human games and even then it isn't that big of a deal in my opinion. |

I do think it matters to some degree. A loud stadium can rattle the opposing team, giving teams like OSU, Michigan, Penn State, Notre Dame, USC, etc. another advantage. In contrast, it probably doesn't matter for middle of the road teams like Indiana, Minnesota, BC, etc., because their crowds never get that loud. They rank the most difficult places to play in the game. It has to mean something, right?
If nothing else, having extra home games means extra chances to have recruits visit. Last edited by Kodos : 10-27-2008 at 05:28 PM. |

The visit thing is one thing I agree with but I have never noticed the other stuff make a difference in a game for me personally. But I think 8 is too much. 7 is fine. |

I remember getting the squigly line stuff at ND and at Penn State last year. I wonder if higher-prestige programs are less susceptible to that happening, even with underclassmen.

Everyone gets it. FR get it worse, then SO and hardly JR or SR. If your guy is struggling he might but if he plays well it goes away. |

I've always felt *very* strongly that teams are more likely to have breaks go their way and to play to the max of their abilities at home. In single player I don't think I have ever lost to a lower rated team at home, with the sole exception of rivalry games, which I also very strongly feel impacts how the game plays out. On the road I have had many, many more close games against teams rated significantly lower.
Of course, I don't read the OS forums and follow things very closely, this is entirely anecdotal based on my experiences and very average stick skills. |

Just verified this to be true. Conference games can't be altered at all. |
