Which Madden did you enjoy the most?

I think for me, it was Madden 2003. The FML was a lot of fun.

Madden 2000 had the first franchise mode, as I recall, and I put a lot of time into that.

I also remember how easy Madden 2004 was--I won the Super Bowl in year 2 with Arizona, with a 75 OVR dual threat rookie QB and ...Marcel Shipp... as my 1,500-yard RB. Strange.

But I probably had the most fun with Madden 2005, when a couple college roomies and I played long-running dynasties in the AFC North and AFC West. I was consistently respectable with the Browns, and always just a couple lucky breaks away with the Raiders. Meanwhile, my hallmate took advantage of those incredible progression curves in awareness that reward playing on a good team and had long, successful runs with the Bengals and Chargers. My roommate featured a right-handed Michael Vick (seeing as the left-handed Vick threw him off from his normal rollout/scramble technique) with the Steelers and the Chiefs.

Probably '05.

But I don't think I've logged more hours on any particular version than I did on Tecmo Super Bowl.

I think it was the version that came out in 2003. I was living alone and had concurrent NCAA and Madden leagues running where I'd play a season of NCAA, import the draft class, draft and then play a season of Madden.

I think I churned through four such cycles, which is probably by far the most I played either franchise.

By far the version I played most was '88 on my Apple IIc. I remember making a Cowboys roster with Herschel Walker edited to some game breaking rating. I also remember my mom always asking if I was done playing "Karl Malden Football".

I had the first Madden for the Apple IIe. Wasn't fantastic but revolutionary for its time.

What I find remarkable is that by and large, Madden was never the best pro football game. Techno Bowl and Tecmo Super Bowl were more enjoyable games, Front Page Sports and NFL 2K were better games. NFL Blitz was more appreciated too. Madden has always been good, but rarely the best.

In my formative college years of 1992-95, Super Tecmo Bowl was our game of choice. NHL Hockey got more plan than Madden.

I'm pretty sure it was 06. I actually liked the whole vision cone thing and thought that was the best balance of the running back moves vs the defenses ability to plug holes and come up with stops. If Madden 25 is a lot like the new NCAA, this one may even be more fun than 06.

Madden 09 for the original XBOX is the best madden in the series by far.

Me too. The newer ones I just can't play because there are to many buttons and moves to perfect.

I think this might be it for me. I remember it being the last hurrah for the Xbox and it was fantastic. Still have my Xbox. Need to fire it up and see how far I got with the different versions.

Pretty telling that most votes are for the last-generation versions.

It is still the one with the most features and best gameplay. It plays pretty good right out of the box, and the superstar mode has the autosim to next human play feature that the other last gen Madden games didn't have. And it all worked. Hell, I need to fire it up myself.

I played a ton of Madden 06. To the tune of being a top 100 player online. People hated the vision cone, but I was the complete opposite. The ability to look off receivers was an amazing feature when playing H2H.
