Iowa will be the #3 or 4 team out of the B1G, unless they lose to NW.

And there was much rejoicing Coastal wins by 17 and moves on to the semi's to face Gardner-Webb. Coastal lowest seed remaining #3, #5, #7, #9
are left.

He made a lot of things right that we terribly wrong under Sampson and to a lesser extent under Davis.

On the other side, he just hasn't been able to achieve the results on the court that are expected at Indiana. Unfortunately for him, patience from fans has run out after this terrible performance down the stretch. If he does go, I wish him nothing but the best wherever he goes next. Yes, he has shortcomings as a coach, but he seems to be a good person.

Completely agree. Had the honor to meet Crean on a few occasions, and it's hard to imagine someone more genuinely excited about basketball and tradition. He did accomplish a lot. People outside Indiana tend to forget just how wrecked the program was when Sampson left. But I think Crean has taken this as far as he can.

Well, the saving grace of IU fading late against Michigan St. is that I should move up higher on the season ticket waiting list.

Longwood loses to Winthrop fairly easily so the dream is over for them. Coastal Carolina/Gardner-Webb should be starting any minute.

They need either Purdue or Wisconsin to lose to get #4. I think Michigan St just locked up #3. Iowa will either be 4 or 5.

whew! Coastal squeaks out a win over Gardner-Webb by 3 points. Coastal led by 8 or so most of the second half, but GW edged closer cutting it to two points with about 30 seconds left. But Coastal was able to move on to the finals. Only played Winthrop once this season, here at home, and Winthrop edged them by a few. Winthrop used to be Coastal's nemesis back when Gregg Marshall used to be the coach there, so good to see them back up there.

As interesting as that would be to see happen around here (my goodness, the heads exploding off the shoulders of all the sidewalk alumni would be something to see), I'd be startled if they somehow got anything worse than Syracuse. I'm very much a pessimist about these sorts of things. UNC is a tentpole program in the NCAA and if they get it in the neck, I'll be very much surprised.

Crazy stat I saw: When Karl-Anthony Towns or whoever else from this year's team makes his first appearance in an NBA game, 2010s Kentucky will break the tie with 1970s UCLA and 1990s UNC for most NBA players produced in a decade.

One one hand, obviously Kentucky has plenty of time to add to the record, but that's pretty crazy from UCLA's perspective too considering there were about half as many NBA slots back then and much less playing time to go around if everybody stayed four years.

Ok, I'll admit your excitement for CC has carried over. So while I'm working on my administrative license classes, CC is playing in the background. They are looking good for the win with 3 1/2 left! Winthrop just seems to disappear for stretches at a time and can't quite get the run together.

Thanks CC! Excited to see Coastal reach the big dance again. Consistency has been their big problem this year as evidenced when they lost their last game of the regular season to last place Presbyterian then excelled in the tournament. As long as they don't draw Kentucky in the first round of the NCAA's, have to think they have a better chance than normal to pull an upset given what happened last season leading by 8 points in the second half before Virginia pulled away finally.

I would love for Missouri to run the table in the SEC tournament. Not because they deserve it, not because they're particularly any good, but because I'm pretty sure 14-22 would be the worst record by a power conference NCAA tourney entrant ever (it would definitely be the most losses by a team in tournament history).

At this point, go full troll, you know?

Hooray for UNI. 3 Iowa teams in the tourney. Pretty impressive for a state of 3 million.

I guess my lack of posting lately has no one watching W&M games anymore ...

The Tribe came into the CAA tourney as the #1 seed for the first time. Played in the semis today. Down 9 points with about 4:30 to play, the Tribe came back and took it to double over time.

In the double OT, with a second left, the career scoring leader at W&M (who had 37 points in the game) passed up the final shot to a sophomore that is on a bum leg. He drains the three and W&M plays tomorrow night to try and go tot the NCAA tourney and no longer be one of the 5 teams that has played division I ball since the start of the NCAA tourney and never made it.

Watched the end of regulation and both overtimes. You just hope W&M isn't drained from such an emotional rollercoaster. But that 2nd OT shot from the corner had my 14 year old, who is not really a sports fan, jumping up and down.

Furman is playing for the SOCON championship tonight. Prior to the tournament, they were 8-21. They are playing Wofford, to whom they lost to earlier this year by 25, but only lost by 2 last week. I expect they'll lose by 20, but I'm tempted to grab my daughter from school and take the hour trip to Asheville.

Watched the end of this game also last night. If Furman can stay out of foul trouble and get great games from Croone and Sibley, they seem like a decent team that can give Wofford trouble.

Plus, having lived in Greenville for a couple of years, I would welcome the chance to cheer Furman on at the First Four games which I'll be attending.

Two bits of info to add more craziness to your tale: W&M was down 68-73 with under a minute left before getting a 5-0 run to force OT, and that 3 in the corner was for the win by 1--not to break a tie or anything.

I blame Indiana for the 5 seed. Nah, if Iowa wins at NW they are the 3. Bad loss.
We are playing weel. Won 6 in a row. Good time to be peaking. Doubt we get by Wiscy. They are flat out good.

And geez, W&M's scoring breakdown: 37, 33, 12, 7, 2, 1. Thornton (37) picked up his 2nd assist of the day on the dish to Dixon (7) for the game-winner in 2OT.

The number one lesson from all of this, DON'T SELF REPORT ANYTHING!
You would think that with Syracuse self reporting everything, firing a few responsible people (the AD still needs to go), restructuring some areas and imposing their own penalties and basically being an open book for the NCAA COI, they would have avoided the harsh scholarship penalties. Boeheim will appeal the stuff against him and the school will as well and I think this will get reduced a bit. Either way, the NCAA is in for a fight. There was not much to pin on Boeheim directly. The $8,000 from the booster was to 5 or 6 players, 4 of which have been named as football players, so how JB gets the worst of it, is curious.
I'm happy to see no recruiting violations.
The stuff with Fab Melo is the worst to stomach. He was suspended for a game or two mid-season. He apparently did what he had to do to get eligible again, and then we suspended him for the NCAA tournament. We made the Elite 8 without him. We should have just played him, made the Final 4, maybe took home the title and then still got punished this year. It would have been worth it, so again, the self punishment of that tournament suspension of Fab meant nothing at all.

That was one of the most insane games I've ever seen.

I'm tempted to drive up to Baltimore with a big tub of Pierce's BBQ for the team's pre-game meal--that stuff will cure whatever ails you.
