30 Days, No Facebook...

I have decided. At midnight tonight, I will deactivate my facebook account.

Now, for some people this obviously would not be a big deal but for me it is. I would say I have facebook open on a browser for a few hours every single day. When I do sit down on the computer, it's the first place I go and I end up wasting away far too much of my life on it and I need to do something about it. I feel like it's become a crutch. Especially with a recent breakup with my ladyfriend (had been together 4+ years), I have caught myself snooping in around her facebook page more than I care to admit. She's not helping either, always commenting on my pictures or statuses, it's counterproductive for me when I am trying to move on. It's just not mentally healthy I don't think.

I want to prove to myself that I am mentally strong enough to get over this little facebook addiction of mine.

I am hoping this dynasty will be a nice little diary of me chronicling the different kinds of activities and ways to keep busy so that on day 31, this will all have been worth it.

I am warning you all, that the odds of me making it through 30 days are remote. I'm hoping that me writing about it here and maybe having a few readers will provide me enough inspiration to not give in to temptation.

Wish me luck..

Good luck. Even though I'm on facebook maybe 20 minutes a day at most, except when I'm multi-tasking and forget I have it open, I understand the power of addictions and how hard they can be to break.

Thanks for asking Cam, so far so good.

The hardest part is my not having a job right now, I have lots of hours in the day to try to distract myself. I'm in the process of working on a brand new cover letter as I am trying to enter a completely different field than I am accustomed to.

Also, I signed up to be a "Big" with the local Big Brother/Sister chapter by my house. Supposed to have a face to face "interview" next week some time. The only concern I have is that with me being pretty tight with my financial strings, I am hoping I can be matched up with someone who is just as interested in just playing ball or hanging out as opposed to a kid who wants to go to the movies or ballgames every week. We'll see how that goes.

Been spending a lot of time lately at the local Barnes as well, just trying to catch up on some reading.

Just trying to come up with different ideas to help keep me feeling like I am being productive.

Oh, and the ex went to the Monday Night Football game last night and sent me a bunch of drunk random texts, which I unfortunately responded to. Was angry with myself today for doing so, but I don't know. I guess as down on my luck as I have been lately, it's nice to still feel wanted every now and then. But still, I need to not let myself do that again.

Good luck, I don't know if I could do it!

When I split up with my last ex even though it was on good terms she told me she was going to delete me as a friend, because she knew she'd snoop around my profile and get jealous of any photos that went up. At first I was a bit annoyed, but I'm glad she did do it, because I'm sure I would have wound up doing the same.

No job, no girlfriend?

This SCREAMS for a internet free porn tour dynasty. Really, it would win awards.

Don't feel guilty about responding to drunken contact from the ex. Trust me when I tell you that years from now, the only thing you might regret when it comes to her is passing up offers of drunken booty calls.

Actually, it's not even that. I'm in Chicago and she's currently going to school down in Florida, so there's no potential drunken booty calls.

Well hang in there, man. I know it can be difficult when you've got lots of ample time on your hands. But you can do it.

Good luck.. I don't think I could do it it. I have FB up all afternoon/night at work, and always have it open in a tab while on other sites.
