Star Wars: Episode VII

Let's get the thread officially started now that the cast for the film has been released!

Quote:
Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

Director J.J. Abrams says, "We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud."

Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer

Very excited about John Boyega, Andy Serkis, Adam Driver (even though I hate his show), Max Von Sydow ,and the old crew. I never saw Llewyn Davis or I might care even more...

I'm really trying to temper my excitement about this film, but damn...on paper it's looking pretty promising.

Boyega and Isaac are said to be the main heroes, with Boyega playing a Jedi. Adam Driver is playing the main villain.

Maybe in your opinion. I think he's just fine.

It's freaking Star Wars. Personally, I think we should all fanboy out. Why not get excited?

(Keeping in mind, you're not the one I originally responded to of course, but point made...)

It's going to be pretty freaking weird to see Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, and Harrison Ford all together again in these roles. Can't help but be excited.

Haha, indeed!

I know people are all over the place with him. I really liked his Star Trek films and I am not a Star Trek fan at all. However, Lost (the ending of course) and Super 8 were ridiculously disappointing for me.

While the ending of "Lost" wasn't all that great, I am not sure how much JJ Abrams was involved at that point. "Lost" was a pretty amazing show. I think too many people let what happened at the end cloud their memory of what was a highly entertaining, pretty amazing run for many years. Just think of how many shows tried to be the next "Lost" and failed miserably. While the final destination might not have been great or what was expected, overall the journey was more than worth it. I don't regret the time I spent watching that show.

Never saw "Super 8".

I liked both of the new Star Treks well enough.

After the last three Star Wars movies, there is really nowhere to go but up. It would be a Herculean feat to make movies worse than those. It'd be amazing. Movie-wise, the "Star Wars" franchise was so decimated by those horrible films, that I'm not nervous or anxious at all. I'm kind of excited at the possibility of something new. Something to wash away the stank of the prequels.

Also... Lightsaber lens flare!!!!

Didn't he apologize for all the lens flare in the last Star Trek movie?

Everyone's entitled to an opinion, but:

Mission Impossible: 77% (Rotten Tomatoes)
Cloverfield: 77%
Star Trek: 95%
Super 8: 82%
Star Trek 2: 87%

That's a pretty solid track record right there.

I'm fine with geeking out! I loved Super 8 (own it on Blu-Ray) as well as the two Star Trek movies. I think Abrams will do a fine job with Star Wars (wasn't the complaint from Star Trek fans that he made the first re-boot Star Trek movie into a Star Wars movie?).

I forgot he did Cloverfield. I enjoyed that movie.

He actually did Mission: Impossible 3, not part 1. It still has 70%.

I hated Cloverfield, but like all of his other stuff, especially Super 8.

I really wanted the monster to eat pretty much all of the main characters in Cloverfield.

I'm pretty fired up. I don't even care if the movie's any good. I'd be psyched to see Hamill, Ford, and Fisher reprise their roles in a Verizon commercial. A movie with them, geez, that's certainly worth a couple of hours of my time next year. I think it helps not to get personally offended by movies or TV or film that don't meet your expectations, which seems to be a growing thing.

Somehow I missed Into Darkness in theaters and it's not available to rent and I really don't wanna "own" it. Is it available anywhere for cheap, like $4-5 max?

I tried on two separate occasions to sit through the first Star Trek remake, and holy crap, what an absolute joke of a sci-fi film. If I wanted to watch a bunch of people punching each other, shaky cam, and explosions every 5 minutes, I'd just go watch a Michael Bay film.

No matter what TPM was, it was never going to live up to the hype. However, expectations have to be so stamped down now that I think the general consensus will be "yeah, that was pretty good- worse than 4-6 but better than 1-3, even 3"

Watched Star Trek Into Darkness. The plot was barely substantial enough to fill out a movie. I was never a fan of the original series so I don't have the baggage that original fans have. I guess I just wanted to like it more.

That's how I feel about Jj Abrams movies. Great concept and visuals, story doesn't reach me emotionally.

Yup, which is why I was disappointed when I heard he was going to direct this film.

Great visuals.
Cool concept.
Zero emotional engagement.

Sounds like George Lucas 2.0.

As a big a Star Wars fan I've since I was a little kid, I have very little excitement for these new movies. I will definitely see them and I'm sure I will get somewhat excited as the time grows closer, but the prequels were just so bad...

Well, I guess there is no where else to go but up!

The Force Awakens could be referencing the Dark Side of the Force awakening to bring balance again... I like the title though.

It replaced "Star Wars Episode VII: Oh snap, the Force just woke the fuck up" ... not sure if it improves it but it does make it more kid friendly.
