When were these last Jeopardy episodes recorded? About a month delay still, or on a shorter schedule? He didn't seem to be declining noticeably to me.

Yeah, he still looks ok but doesn't sound good. Jeopardy announced it's going to do guest hosts with Ken Jennings up first.

Jeopardy trying the "Regis Philbin" replacement route where they paired like 45 people with Kelly before settling on someone. Not sure how I feel about it. Just give me Ken Jennings and call it a day.

I have to think this is an extended tryout. As long as everyone's happy, the job is his, right?

The only other name that made me think "that would be pretty cool" is LeVar Burton.

But if there were odds on this, I'd have to think that Jennings is still at -1000 to get it, right?

Trump would be amazing. He'd be reading the questions for the first time on-air and the contestant intros would end up being all about him. He'd probably sing along to the final jeopardy music.

They'd have to reconfigure the way they presented the problems:

TRUMP: "People are saying that it's the name by which the Eastern Roman Empire is more commonly known. But I don't know. I don't know. But that's what some people are saying."

CONTESTANT: "What is the Byzantine Empire?"

Emporer Constant Tine ended the persecution of Christians with this edict. Nobody loves Christians more than me. They're still persecuted by the way, but not by me. Now they all say Merry Christmas. It must be nice to be an Emporer.

The only thing with Jennings is that his speech is a little sloppy at times. Not bad, but he doesn't have the same level of clarity/annunciation, IMO. But he definitely is comfortable with media and knows the subject.

I still wonder if Brad Rutter is going to have a guest host stint. I thought he moved to LA to get into the TV biz. Also knows the trivia game and has the voice for it.

I was surprised he wasn't on the odds list above

Re: Jennings, a number of people think he's far too arrogant for the role. Nobody will make everyone happy replacing Trebek, but I think it makes sense to try out different options due to the fact that there doesn't appear to be clear and obvious choice.

Brad or Buzzy Cohen would probably be better picks than Jennings, but can't argue too much if they go with Ken. Levar would be awesome. Only other one I see on that list that I could see would be Jane Lynch.

Austin Rogers, maybe? If he's not quite as capricious as his persona, he could be fun.

Well, Trebek was a bit arrogant, too. Seems par for the course for quiz show host.

Maybe they need an edgy host to will talk down to the contestants after he laughs and says the right answer when they get it all wrong.

Ok, so I'm listening to the audio of Trebek's book from this year. Trebek does some of the reading, but given his health he didn't do all of it. Most was done by...Ken Jennings.

Not the chapter about Jennings, though. Trebek had this to say about him:

Quote:
Now, when I think of Ken I think of a quality human being - extremely bright (that goes without saying) - someone who's not out to impress you. Someone I can be very simpatico with because I think we're the same type of person. We're comfortable in our own skin. And comfortable in dealing with other people. And we don't feel like we have to impress, or make a mark. He's somebody I genuinely liked as a contestant on the program.

I know it's not up to Alex. But it sounds like, if it were up to Alex...
