I kinda dig Pancreas. I haven't listened to a great deal of Weird Al though, but I love the polkas I've heard too.

Wow ... hard for me to answer. I'm probably the nuttiest Weird Al fan on the board. I've seen him in concert three or four times. His live shows are fantastic with the videos and costume changes. If you asked me to make a list tomorrow, I'd probably come up with 5 different songs.

Finally! An Albuquerque sighting- tho it's like this weird B track that just isn't a normal song
The lists mostly seem to skew young here. I love the Michael Jackson parodies- tho I think I'd take Eat It at the top of the list. Amish Paradise has always stuck out as one of my favorites, too- big song, great parody. Dare to be Stupid is an absolute classic- somewhat dated, sure (Mr Whipple, anyone?)- but classic. And one thing that I've found interesting is that I think The Saga Begins and Jurassic Park is pretty parallel- both parody 70s songs, are fairly long, and walk you through the plots of the movies but because one was Star Wars, it gets a lot more love. I also have a special place in my heart for The Night Santa Went Crazy because I tricked quite a few people into listening to it without them knowing what it was in advance and got some great, horrified looks. SI

Weird Al's new album starts out with a parody of one of my current most-hated songs Pharrell Williams "Happy". It's called "Tacky" and Al gets a lot of help from celebrities like Jack Black. And with a song called Tacky, you have to know its NSFE (Not Safe For Eyes)

I still have "Christmas At Ground Zero" playing around here regularly. I always make sure it's in the mix when my wife and daughter start playing Christmas carols, since it's my personal favorite...

Tough choices...
1. Another One Rides the Bus - my personal gateway song 2. White & Nerdy - 'cause my rims don't spin, to the contrary, you'll find they're quite stationary. 3. Dog Eat Dog - 'cause I used to think that the world was dog eat dog but now I find it's really the reverse. 4. Smells Like Nirvana - Arglebya, ayonawa, Yaddayadda 5. I Lost on Jeopardy - let me tell you what you didn't win... |

I wasn't throwing down, just assuming no one else would want to admit to be as geeky as me when it comes to Weird Al. I own every song he's ever released, and even have a bootleg copy of "It's Still Billy Joel to Me." My favorite concert highlight was when he did "Chicken Pot Pie" in a medley.
Three years later I still back my claim I'd make a list of five completely different songs. I think "Melanie" is the only one I'd have on my list today. |

I don't think we can talk about Weird Al without mentioning his unfortunate legacy: the legions of terrible copycats on YouTube, Twitter, and the like who think that putting *PARODY* in front of something automatically makes it funny.

Word Crimes have to be on the Top 5 Weird Al songs ever. Tacky is also really great!
edit: Foil took an interesting twist. I liked it!

The next song got leaked early. It isn't a parody, but a Weird Al original, entitled "Sports Song".

I disagree. Social media is what it is. With that said, the legions of attempts you mention make it all the clearer what a creative genius he is. I still laugh hysterically at most of his stuff no matter how many times I've heard it. |

That's a big YMMV. Doing parody songs inherently has a pretty low comedic ceiling. It's fine in limited doses from someone like Weird Al, but when it becomes saturated with all sorts of imitators it rapidly veers into excessive cheesiness. Last edited by nol : 07-16-2014 at 03:08 PM. |

Handy is one of those songs(happened many times before) where I just think it's objectively musically better than the original being parodied. Yeah, the subject matter's pretty dumb, but so is Fancy so ...
Most impressive thing so far might be that the Tacky video was done in one solid take. |
