That said, I feel Wisconsin was over rated after beating LSU and destroying a weak MAC team. Top 25, probably, nowhere near top ten.

They will do well to win one of the upcoming Ohio State, Michigan, and Michigan State.

Hell, they may be lucky to beat Georgia State.

Is Tennessee really this bad? 14-12 over Ohio in the 3rd?

2 best defenders have gone down with injuries today, another starter already out, another backup LB out now as well. And a freshman corner that's been very beatable. As configured today they aren't real good.

Offensively I'm ready to shoot the OL coach and the recruiting coordinator. The OL is just a friggin dumpster fire. I'm not sure if they're undertalented, woefully unprepared, or both but I'm not entirely sure they could consistently block four random FOFC'ers.

And Georgia State just took a 17-13 lead over Wisconsin with 11:36 to play

I was mocking the continued use of Jump Around, but the offense is pretty bland as well.

It's good for the folks that are drunk and about to pass out to get up and get moving. But yeah, Wisconsin will never be on the cutting edge of all things cultural.

Hornibrook gets the Badgers back out front.

You have got to be f'n shittin' me. NDSU goes for two & fails instead of tying the game against Iowa with under four to play. {shakes head}

Against an offensive juggernaut, okay, I get it. But against Iowa, today?

I watch my fair share of college football but am in no way an expert. (I am from the United Kingdom).

How special is this kid Lamar Jackson? As far as I can tell, he is the nearest thing to Michael Vick all those years ago. How do you think this kid can do in a pro style offense in the NFL?

Jackson is incredible. Once in a generation from what I am seeing. How he learns to read defenses and throw the ball over the next couple years will help determine how well he translates to the pros.. But I'd put him somewhere between Mariota and Wilson if he continues to improve. His elusiveness is incredible and he can make all the throws, but his durability will be a concern I bet.

The running is ridiculous but will need to have a passing game to compete at the top. I know were potentially two years away from him being drafted but has he got the tools to succeed in the NFL?

Good comparison. He has improved to a new level this year. Doesnt have the arm strength of Vick but probably more accurate.

Okay, I'm really lenient about scheduling for D1/Power5 teams, I see the advantages & benefits of a cupcake or two and I'm fine with that.

However ...

this quote from the SC State coach rubs me the wrong way pretty hard
"We want them to just kind of come out and just kind of go on through the motions and get on out of there, which would probably be the best case scenario for us,"

That's about as close to saying "there's no point for us to even try" as you can get without saying it ... and that's uncomfortably close to throwing a game just to get a $300k payday.

This CU team is very, very improved. The coaching staff had this team ready to play today. They didn't just go to Michigan to get their asses handed to them. They came to beat them. I may or may not last, but that mentality if FAR different from anything I've seen out of this team in the last decade.

From 2008 through yesterday, this team has played 17 ranked football teams on the road. They scored 21 points or more in exactly 4 of those football games. The average score has been 42-14 in those games. In other words, very rarely have they even competed.

Win or lose today, the Buffs got the attention of Michigan. This is a massive improvement.

Ain't gonna lie, Rebs got a big break on the enforcement of the block behind the play penalty.

I'll take it, but they should have been spotted on the 25 or so ... unless that rule has some less than obvious way to be applied.

I'm looking forward to a good game tonight. UCLA is probably more talented overall, but BYU is always a tough physical matchup and well coached.

Looking at the matchups, losing those two from the secondary for the targeting calls could really hurt you guys against Rosen. I think UCLA will be fairly productive on offense. But Hill is exactly the type of QB that gives UCLA fits, and they aren't showing themselves to be much improved against the run, which is bad news versus a team with five large experienced lineman and a downhill runner in Williams. So I think BYU will be scoring a lot too (just more methodically).

Could come down to who plays more mistake free football tonight. Here's to a hopefully good game with no major injuries.

CU comes out in the second half and starts off by launching a 70 yard TD pass to retake the lead. But. . . the starting QB goes down. Looks like ankle or foot and it looks bad. I'm not sure if he is going to be able to come in or not. The backup is a frosh.

As I type this, Michigan responds with a TD of their own to go back up. It looks like they are going to retape the QB's foot/ankle and see if he can return.

He missed the end of last year with a foot injury and the plan was for him to sit out this year as the transfer QB from Texas Tech committed to CU. He changed his mind and went to Cal and the QB said he was ready so CU chanced it. If the QB can't go on, it is going to really hurt a lot of the gains it looks like CU has made this year. That'd be a shame.

Can't imagine being an Ole Miss fan. I mean, I've seen teams run hot and cold, but they are like scorching or freezing. Giving away 21+ point leads in 2 of their first 3.

I think NDSU played a terrific game. Their running game was incredible. The offensive line did a great job and their running backs were very good. QB didn't play well the first half but really stepped up in the second. NDSU defense was very solid also with a pick 6 in the first half. I think they held Iowa under 50 yds rushing for the game and had to have gained 150+ yards rushing themselves. While I don't recall any poor coaching decisions by Iowa, I can't help feeling like they were out-coached. NDSU was in some tough situations throughout the game and rose to the challenge almost every time.

I'm a huge Iowa fan but honestly, this game doesn't bother me much because I just can't get past what a great game NDSU played. Sure I hate that the Hawkeyes lost but they were outplayed overall and not the victim of some fluke cheap play or something like that. Very impressive performance.

There is a set of standard rules (NHSFederation IIRC) but states can and do vary from those as a baseline.

It's gotten lost with time, but Mike was an exceptional passer in college (171 QB rating in '99 - 3rd in the NCAA), but times were different then. 60% completion rate was considered elite (Vick's was 58% in '99). His failures as a passer in the NFL were due to a lack of effort in improving his accuracy for the next level in favor of relying on just his physical attributes. I think Jackson is as close as it gets to Mike at VT, but he isn't at Mike's passing ability yet. And that leaves him very far away from NFL level (i.e. Mariota's level) right now.

My son's opening comment in his post-game phone call home was "the last QB I saw capable of making mistakes like Kelly was The Incrompetent One" (aka Jonathan Crompton)

He's figuring 8-4, Music City Bowl in his future.

Lamar Jackson maybe the best rb in college football, or at least the most dynamic

He is a great college player.

But he is a 0 to maybe even a - passer to NFL scouts. He simply isnt an accurate passers, YET.
