2020 NFL Offseason Thread?

If I missed it, the mods can just merge this with the other one.

CBA approved, no more suspensions for the WEEEEEED!

NFL players approve new CBA, runs through 2030

Tannehill reportedly got paid

Source -- Ryan Tannehill agrees to 4-year deal with Titans worth up to $118 million

Colts resign LT Castanzo to a 2 year 33 million dollar deal.

That takes care of one headache this offseason.

Is there a comp for a QB who has so much bad tape on him, then has one (half) a great season and is worth that kind of contract? I'm trying to think, Cassel obviously got paid but that was based on being a career backup and that's the more common scenario.

Ending suspensions for weed was a good move. They should give all the players they suspended over the years back pay.

It is really a two year deal for 46 million with 20 million in incentives. I am good with that. Dark is going t9 get 35 million and shoot Brady,Brees etc who knows. Tanner hills deal in a year might be a bargain unless he craters.

The NFLPA wouldn't consent to moving the start of the league new year so let the Free Agent Frenzy begin!

Steelers use the Franchise Tag on Dupree. I think we saw that coming. He had a good year, and the team like to use that to get a better path toward a longer term deal. He's pretty critical to the speed on the defense.

if the Texans sent nothing other than a plate of barbecue to the Cardinals for David Johnson that's a great trade for Arizona

And chaser:
Adam Schefter
@AdamSchefter
Framework of trade still being finalized, sources tell ESPN:

American footballCardinals get DeAndre Hopkins and a late-round pick.

American footballTexans get David Johnson and a second-round pick.

Other picks involved, but Hopkins wanted a new deal that Arizona can provide.

I hope that trade included a time machine so the Texans can go back to Johnson's one good year.

If this were a multi-player FOF league, the commish would set a rule that no one can trade with the Texans until they are no longer under AI control.

Man that is a bad trade for the Texans. You just dont trade a player like Hopkins especially when you have one of the best young QBs in the NFL. Great work Cards!

The NFL announced the draft will take place, but not in Las Vegas. It will still be televised, and I presume it will be conducted via teleconference.

The ESPN headline is confusing, but it looks like it's Johnson, a 2nd, and a 4th next year for Hopkins and a 4th.

Seriously - two firsts and a second for Tunsil (which I can see the logic behind even if it’s a lot for such a volatile player) but then you basically get a second, a third and a bunch of vets with questionable value for Clowney and Hopkins, two guys who are basically top 3-5 league wide at their positions. Okkkk then Houston.

Apparently the 49ers gave Armstead 5 years, $85M. And they're out on Brady. Which most of us knew already, but glad the dalliance is over.

Kinda figured David Johnson was on his way out with my beloved Cards. Seemed not to have fully recovered from his injuries and lost favor with the new head coach quickly-maybe the new city will give him a spark. Getting Hopkins for him, I'm not sure how they could say no. Wonder who they draft in the first round now?

I figured he was out of the Saints' price range, but I had him on my list of "man, he'd be a great fit" players considering Brees' arm strength.

With him, Cook, Kamara, and Thomas, you'd have the most potent 15-yards-and-closer passing game in NFL history :-)

DeForrest Buckner to the Colts for the #13 overall pick; Buckner signs an extension making him the 2nd highest paid defensive lineman ever.

Edit: 2nd highest paid DT ever, not lineman.

My initial reaction is that the 13th overall pick is an amazing return on someone who only recently broke out and would have absolutely ruined the cap situation for the team.

I'm surprised they were able to pry that draft pick out of Chris Ballard's hands.

I hope Buckner is at least top 5 at his position.

Got to be in the running for “worst trade ever in terms of initial value”. I forgot the Texans also gave up a third for Duke Johnson.

Yea. Sad to see him go, but getting the 13th overall pick should help alleviate that a little. Not to mention a lot of guys got playing time at the DT position that they clearly liked enough as well.

Per Schefter, Bills get Stefon Diggs and a 2020 7th rounder. The Vikings get a 2020 1st, 5th, 6th and a 2021 4th.

Vance McDonald has gotten a lot of play from that stiff arm a year ago. Even with being down several picks I can’t believe they capped out McDonald. He barely plays.

We're coming up on the Wednesday deadline for Patriots to get a deal done with Brady before they take the dead cap hit. I lot of teams have dropped out, but still a lot of talk about Tampa Bay.

And the Texans got what for Hopkins? The Vikes getting a 1st for Diggs makes the Texans trade even worse.

As sports fans, we are good at blocking out things like "that weird Tom Brady year in Tampa Bay" from our collective memories. It will seem strange next season, then we will all forget it ever happened.

Now maybe the rest of the AFC East can beat the Patriots? for potential replacements, how about Marcus Marirota? Not needed in Tenn anymore, maybe Bellichek can build him up again?
