FOFC Favorite Rock Act - Sweet 16

This is it, the last 16 standing, two seeds from outside the top 16 have made it to this point. A few tough decisions here, and the seeds have held up well overall, but since this is favorite and not best or most iconic, that could change based on personal preference.

Ouch. LZ vs. U2 was tough. Decided I've gotten slightly more enjoyment out of U2.

Would love to see Stones and Beatles go down but that's not happening.

So, in the end, we'll have an Elite 8 of seeds 1-8. Might as well had started at that.

This contest has taught me that the typical FOFC member likes The Doors and AC/DC a lot more than I do.

The 6/11 is pretty brutal.

It would seem this board pretty much agrees with ranker.com

Struggled with Queen vs. Metallica until I took a peak at the vote results. Threw Metallica the vote to make it a little less of a landslide.

My toughest choice.

Hate that the Stones stayed alive.

Cant believe anyone would vote U2 over one of the original super groups.

Only 7 of the final 16 have more than 3-4 songs that I won't actively turn off.

I generally love 60s music, so the Beatles, Stones, and Doors are big for me. Never got into the 70s which is why I don't get into Floyd, Zeppelin or Queen. While I like 80s music, no band really blows me away overall, and then I got into the grunge/alternative stuff of the 90s.

GnRs Appetite for Destruction is one of the best albums ever put together.

But they had no chance against the Beatles.

I still voted for GnR.

Me too, not a bad song on that album. If I could pick only one to listen to, it would have to be GnR

I wonder how a worldwide poll would work out. Never even heard of the 11th and 14th seeds. Listening to their stuff I can see why they made it. Still, what I would call the big acts are mostly still there.

Creedence I could kinda understand in a "oooh, those are the guys that did THAT song", but never heard of the Eagles?! I'm the furthest thing from an Eagles fan, but they would have to be one of the most popular and well known American bands of all time.

And the Eagles have crossover appeal with rock and country fans.

Cant believe Queen is blowing the doors of Metallica. Wouldnt have thought that but maybe the board's demographics are a little older than i thought. Same with GnR but at least in their defense they're up against The Beatles.

CCR kicks serious ass. That is all.

No never heard of them. It just seems some bands just don't travel across the pond. It seems most of the major Brit bands landed heavy over there, I guess Oasis would be one whose impact was vastly different.

Elvis and Michael Jackson were huge here, pretty sure they would be in the UK final 16.

Im surprised you have never heard the song Hotel California. It is one of the best songs of all time. Performed by The Eagles.

Not to mention their Greatest Hits album is the #1 best selling album in the 20th century, even reached #2 and platinum in UK.

Yeah I recognise the song, didn't know who sang it though. Looks like they had 1 UK top 10. A no.8 back in 1977. I was 2. Wife hasn't heard of them either, but like me has heard that song before. Movie maybe? Not a great song IMHO, but obviously in the minority.

CCR floats my boat more. Bad Moon Rising is an all time great for me. Again heard it before but didn't know who sang it, American Werewolf in London movie I think.

Platinum sounds really grand doesn't it. 250,000 album sales. After a quick search on wiki the UK 60th best selling of all-time sold 2,350,000 albums. I guess a platinum album isn't a big deal. 3 acts in the top 60 UK albums I hadn't heard of.
