That's crazy money for a mediocre end who's 31 - cliches about "blue collar white guys" aside, Vanden Bosch is just not very good, no matter what statistics you look at./

Saints are close to locking up Jahri Evans and making him one of the highest paid guards in the league. Be nice to get that one done. Next up is locking up Pierre Thomas and Roman Harper.

Carolina picking up Vick would be the ultimate letdown after releasing Delhomme, please no! Even before the dogfighting stuff Vick is the guy I disliked more than anyone in my lifetime following football. Living in Atlanta as a Panthers fan during the top of Vick hype was awful... think JeeberD and TO in Dallas, I don't know how I would handle that at all.

So are the Bears the frontrunners now for Peppers? All signs are pointing to them signing him. I guess I can't complain about the move at all, although I wonder how long the deal will be for and for how much. This is a team that has a lot of needs.

I guess that's not bad considering we don't have to dole out for a 1st round pick the next 2 years.

Miami will be cutting safety Gibril Wilson sometime today, good riddance. He was terrible last year.

Carolina Panthers coach John Fox can't fight back tears on Jake Delhomme release - ESPN

Seriously? Releasing a QB that throws 5 picks a game invokes tears but you can't even be bothered to call up Julius Peppers and make him an offer? Fuck You Carolina Management.

Hey, gritty white guy who vs. "talented but lazy" - its a sportswriters dream cliche. But Peppers was done in Carolina IMO no matter what.

Schefter says Seattle is close to signing Brandon Marshall to an offer sheet. If they did that Denver would get the 6th pick in the draft assuming they do not match, which no chance in hell they would.

Tears are a little easier to come up with than $40 million guaranteed.

Edit: nope, mea culpa. Detox was right. I don't think they do that however. Its interesting - if you had the no 3 pick in last year's draft, wouldn't you want to give it away?

Does that give Denver 3 picks in the top 20?

Nope. Seattle has Denvers 1st this year for the DJ Moore trade last year.

I don't think there is any way the Seahawks give up the 6th pick. If they do the fans here will flip the hell out. Or I will at least.

You would hope Seattle does not do it but who really knows anymore?

Jeremy Bates, their OC, was OC for Marshall in Denver. Their QB coach, Jedd Fisch, was Marshalls WR coach in Denver. I am sure a huge push is going on internally for him.

According to John Clayton, Bears & Peppers is a done deal.

Not sure how I feel about this just yet, given the price tag. At the very least, sports talk radio should be interesting around here for a few days.

There is a difference here though. If the cap comes back, you're on the hook for 40 mil guaranteed over the next 3 years for a 30 year old DE, who while elite, has motor issues.

This was a move made by a desperate GM and HC both of which are looking to keep their jobs.

Also, Taylor and Peppers are nice but until the Bears field a real life OL none of it will matter, especially in Martz system where a QB gets killed even with a good OL, let alone the awful OL they have.

He was officially released an hour or two ago.

The story is BS though about him signing. The News had a headline of Jones to sign with the Lions but then just linked to an SI speculation piece.

This free agency period is just fucked up.

The top teams cant do shit unless they lose a player. What kind of fools set up this arrangement?

Athough it always makes me smile when I see the Bears over pay for 30 year old talent. I guess they probably dont have much choice but they are going to be a complete disaster in 2 years.

Bears motto should be "Lions we are coming for you."

I am sorry Bears fans. I just shake my head everytime their front office does something. None of it makes any sense to me.

In this case they apparently think they are close to being able to compete for the NFC championship so they are going to put all of their eggs in one basket and watch it all come crashing down on them.

The ESPN Article says:

Quote:
Peppers was looking for at least $12 million a year in the early part of the contract. The agreement could be worth $40 million over the first three years.

It doesn't say $40 million guarenteed, I'll be curious to see the exact details once they are known. One of the earlier stories mentioned that the Eagles and Patriots were offering $10 million/year, so $12/year for the first 3 years does not really seem that outrageous to me. The only two people with more sacks during the same timeframe as Peppers career are Jason Taylor and Dwight Freeney, each with something like 4 more sacks than Peppers.

The fact that Peppers was a UNC basketball player who went on to star for my favorite NFL team obviously means there's homerism at work here... but it was the $16 million franchise tag last year and the fact that franchising him again would be $20 million this year that was outrageous. If Carolina could have kept him for 3/36 with some fluff behind that I would have been thrilled.

Carolina has had chronic injury problems at DT in recent years, last year losing both starters for the season, increasing the number of double teams Peppers would get, yet still ends up with 10 sacks/5 forced fumbles and a crazy athletic INT here and there.

Yes. I am not looking forward to watching him embarass Jeff Backus and destroy Matthew Stafford twice year, despite his defective motor problems.

If the Pats get Boldin I might die happy.

He'd be a great addition to Brady's arsenal.
