I actually enjoyed it. The scenes with the ship were breathtaking. Yes, the romance was cheesy and obvious, but I still enjoyed it.

this disparity in opinions always leaves me wondering, am I the only person who goes into a movie not expecting anything and allowing himself to become the characters and to try and feel and react as the characters?

Movies thrill me, they make me take a moment to just "feel" and be alive.

I loved Titanic, there was young love, pomp and extravagance, and terror at the thought of plunging into that 20 degree water. The scenes were amaxingly done and the story made me feel like I did when I was a teen finding real love for the first time.

The movie was somewhere around three hours. I wish I oculd have about 2 1/2 hours of my life back. Same thing with LOTR, the first one.

I was "forced" to as well, but heard all the HYPE and how good it was and I (foolishly) kept expecting "something".......to make it worth 3 hours+ of my time. Needless to say "something" ONLY came when the thing ended and someone woke me......

I compare it to Pearl Harbour... the romance got in the way of the real story. Although I didn't like Pearl Harbour at all, I enjoyed Titanic.

I watched it when it came out, and bought the VHS tape(s). I don't think we've ever watched the movie again, though. I think my wife may have tried to once, but she's not into watching the same movie over.

I thought it was an interesting movie. Makes me wonder how I'll react to a sinking ship!

I guess I don't get, or get into, dramatic movies. This one is historical, so you know how it ends. I thought the historical aspects of it, even if obviously placed, were the most interesting parts. At the end, when I realized everyone around me was sobbing like their children were actually trapped on a sinking ship, I turned to my wife, honestly stunned, and said, "What in the hell is everyone crying for? Who didn't know all these people died?"

I guess I was watching it from a purely historical perspective and didn't get into the movie at all. I thought it was fascinating to watch, but at no time did I feel "connected" or "absorbed" in the movie, especially not to the point of tears.

I saw it. Three times. Loved it. Visually stunning re-enactment. I love films on historical disasters and tragedies. Saw the Titanic exhibit and felt the steel from the actual ship at Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. Consider it one of top 10 movies all time. (Though it sickens me they had to have sex to make it a "real" love story. Hollywood has such a sick concept of romance.) Deal with it.

Being a fan of MST3K, I've seen my fair share of bad movies. So I wouldn't say Titanic sucked. It wasn't great either.

I definitely enjoyed seeing it in the theater with my then-girlfirend. I've seen it once on VHS since and still think it's an above-average movie that is needlessly bashed.

Bash Gangs of New York, Dainel Day-Lewis was the only thing worth watching in it.

I was dragged to it by my ex-girlfriend...I remember going with a group to see it, and one of the boyfriend's laughed aloud when the guy falls to his death as the ship bobs straight up before it sinks into the ocean...I'll never forget that, the audience was so into the movie and this guy laughs...I knew Leo would die simply not beforehand, but it was a predictable ending to the movie...the hardest scene was the mother helping her children to sleep while the ship sinks.

The movie was not enjoyable for me, it was a grandiose homage by Cameron for Cameron, yes it was heavily detailed to the doomed ship, but the storyline was not really original...

btw, Cameron left his wife (the Terminator chick) for the granddaughter of the survivor(Kate Winslet's character) in this film.

Another memory from me watching the movie is we had a group of kids behind us and when the movie had Winslet's face turn into the old ladies face, I heard them all scream "EW!" in unsion...

I thought it was tremendous. Think how hard it must be for a movie to keep peoples interest when everyone knows the end.

I think the love storyline didn't over-dominate to the point of where it was too sappy and the special effects were tremendous.
I think they did an awesome job of capturing the personality on the ship from the scenes with the upper=class passengers to the scene down below where the 3rd class passangers were forced to wait behind gates.

It wasn't too bad of a movie. The special effects were pretty damn good. Kate Winslet's tits were pretty nice. I'm no movie critic, but I enjoyed it...

You're not the only one, render. I have always felt that this was one of my best qualities, because it allows me to enjoy almost anything without questioning it.

I do plenty of questioning afterward, if it deserves it, but while I am in the theater, I generally give myself up entirely to the film and let it take me where it wants to. It makes the moviegoing experience much more fulfilling.

Yeah, Titanic was a cheesy romance flick, but I enjoyed it a lot, especially the first time.

It was OK. It could have been very good if they had cut out some of the obligatory escape sequences in the passageways. Hollywood is obsessed with long mind numbing chase/escape scenes that only serve to make my ass go numb from sitting in a cramped theatre seat for too long. In the end I felt I had watched too separate movies.

I'm just the opposite. This is akin to the "power of persuasion." I would be (and once was) a very bad subject for hypnosis. I don't allow myself to get caught up in much of anything, without looking at it from an outside perspective. I guess that's why I've never really been a fan of movies, other than those that make me think or laugh. Any other emotional aspects are usually lost on me. Call me Spock.

Now, music on the other hand... I don't know what the difference is, but when I'm watching a movie, I'm watching X actor, not the person being portrayed. I've rarely gotten past that issue, soe for me, unless the movie makes me laugh or is an intellectual exercise, it's just not convincing.

I liked Titanic the first time I saw it. I think it gets some bad press because of Leonardo throwing his little fit that he wasn't going to the Oscars that year because the Academy 'disrespected' him by not nominating him for Best Actor. Please....like there was a snowball's chance for anyone but Nicholson (As Good As It Gets). Cameron's antics at the Oscars didn't help it either, at least not with me...

I couldn't disagree more. I was mesmorized by Gangs. Daniel Day-Lewis is awesome and DiCaprio actually doesn't get in the way of the film. To me, it was a fascinating story. I've said this elsewhere, but I think that it's going to win Best Picture.
