49ers or Seahawks. Don't see anyone else in the NFC getting out and I don't think there's an AFC team that can hang with either of them.

Carolina with 2 votes already?

Kansas City will never win with that coach so that is a wasted vote.

Oh, I picked Seattle but could easily see it being San Francisco. The best chance other teams have at the moment would be those two teams beating the crap out of each other and both being too worn down from that.

Though with free agency anything could change...

They will keep Hardy and get a big play guy somehow. I'm pretty optimistic.

I thought going into the playoffs you had four groups of teams:

Top tier:
Seattle
San Francisco
Carolina
Denver

Got a chance, but not a real good one:
Cincinnati
New Orleans
New England
Indianapolis

You're not bad, but you're not really a contender:
Kansas City
Green Bay

Go home, you don't belong here:
San Diego
Philadelphia

Going into next year, I think those top four teams again stand head and shoulders above the rest of the league. The next four are all quite good, but have glaring, obvious weaknesses that need to be addressed. Everyone else needs a lot of help, or to get real hot come playoff time.

Edit - having a hard time deciding if Indy should be where I left them or in the next tier down.

I think that looks about right, although I think Gronk puts NE on the cusp of the top tier. They had so many injuries. Wilfork going down was huge as well, I wonder if he will be able to rehab at his weight. I'd bump up Green Bay and bump down Indy because Rodgers is still there and they gotta be better than Indy at full strength.

I think SF is on the trajectory to win it this year. I think the regular season will be interesting given the importance in homefield and how good SF and Sea are.

Yup. So I vote New Orleans.

That said, I think that Carolina has a really good shot. That defense is for real.

I had to vote (other) for my beloved Cardinals of course. I thought they had no chance to make the playoffs this season with Carson Palmer at the helm, and through the first four games or so they looked pretty awful. But Darryl Washington's return to the field after his 4 game suspension seemed to be the spark the team needed to play to their potential.

They gave Russell Wilson his only loss at home during his tenure as a Seahawk, and if a couple things had gone their way (damn you New Orleans!), they would have been in the playoffs this season. However they play in what has to be the toughest division in the NFL now (remember three seasons ago when it was the weakest?) and its going to be tough to get wins there (1-1 vs Seattle and St Louis, 0-2 against SF). And can Carson Palmer (if they resign him) do it again?

I went for the complete homer vote, myself.

I'd like to see Brady get one more before he retires (and the Patriots revert to their pre-2000 wasteland, probably - no, I'm not irrationally downbeat....).

I think by the time Brady retires it might not be that difficult for the Pats to replace him if previous success without Brady is any indication of life without Brady. The bigger issue will be Belichick retiring.

Homer vote of other here....Giants FTW!!!

As ridiculous as it sounds, and as biased as I am here, this is a team that beat itself more than anything. Especially early on where Eli was on pace to throw more INTs than Peyton throwing TDs.

I think they will improve the O-line, Eli will be more careful with the ball, and the receivers (with or without Nicks) will be dialed in. Big question mark will be the running back position, which I think they draft somebody there to split time with Wilson.

Defensively they were a decent unit for the last 3 quarters of the season. Biggest factor will be whether JPP is just wishful thinking, or a legitimate top tier passrushing beast. If its the former, it will be a big setback. I'm already resigned to Tuck being a non-factor (whether they let him go or resign & he's just ineffective). DBs are a little better than they get credit for and hold up with an average passrush.

Tried to be objective and I still went with Seattle.

San Francisco is #2 and Carolina #3.

I think Denver's magic is over. My AFC sleeper is Indy.

I voted Seattle, only because they are so young and it's hard to pick against them after that dominating SB performance.

But I really disagree with the above statement. The return of Von Miller, Chris Harris and Derrick (sp?) Wolfe will help shore up the defense, and more importantly, what's stopping Thomas, Thomas and Manning from mowing down the AFC again? Welker is getting old and fragile, I'll admit, and Decker might be gone, but those guys are replaceable. Thomas, Thomas and Manning are pretty dang impressive. Ball will be improved in the running game, and I can see them winning the division again.

Of course, you could say, that's all fine and good, but then Manning gets to the playoffs, outthinks himself again, chokes again, the coaches get outcoached again. That I understand. I did, after all, vote Seattle.

But I think the regular season "magic" is far from over in Denver.

I wish you'd have posted every team to be voted on so it would be the exact same question as "Who is your favorite team?". Look at the four who have voted for Cincinnati.

If any team is going to get a boost next year, it's the 49ers. Kaep will have another year in the system, and (hopefully) a healthy Crabtree to throw to all year. Plus, what I think is going to be the biggest factor of the 49ers season...

Their schedule is brutal next year. The AFC West gets the NFC West and they have NE, Cincinnati, and Indy so getting the #1 seed got a whole lot harder.

I went with Seattle because I honestly think they can repeat, but I had to fight every fiber of my being to keep my hand from automatically clicking Bengals.
