Good Bye My Friend
I sit here with a heavy heart and moist eyes.
I feel like one of my children died tonight, fortunately it was neither of my kids, but one of my labs. He was a beautiful 3 year old black male. I took Im in a little over a year ago when a friend just couldnt handle his energy. Now I've had over 20 labs as pets and raised and trained over 100, and none of them were as full of life as Zeke...never met a more athletic dog either. Still just kinda in shock. He was outside on the porch with my chocolate female bella and their 2 puppies when we went inside to eat. Before we even had our plates fixed a neighbor called and asked if he was home, I replied yeah he is lounging in his chair on the porch...she asked me to double check and he tone told me something was wrong. He rarely left the yard and when he did it was just to visit the neighbors but apparently he left it tonight and wandered a little over a mile "as the crow flies" in mere minutes....he was hit by a car... My kids were distraught...my other dogs are too....Im just stunned. I feel like I should have left him with his other owner...I tried to help him and give him a better life and I failed him. He never failed to meet me at the car with a ball to play fetch...the last few weeks Ive been under a ton of stress and haven't thrown it once...damn I'm a jackass... |

Don't know what to say other than pets are part of the family.
I grieve with you as I lost my favorite pet the same way years ago....Caesar, a Shar-Pei.. Just remember the good times you have had with him...and know this, he always loved you...

I hate these threads, so sorry for your loss. We lost Bernie 5 months ago and while the pain gets less I still think of him often, Zeke is somewhere in heaven playing catch right now...

Yep, +1 on Lathum.
Right now he's chasing the best cars, playing the best fetch and sniffing the best butts. It sounds like you made him happy when he was around.

I know that there is nothing that I can say that can make it better, but I want you to know that I share your grieving with you. Take care.

That sucks to hear, 3 years is way too young. Don't think about the last few weeks -- instead focus on all the great times you did have with him!

So sorry to hear this. Pets are a part of your family and it is tough to take when we lose them. Think of the good home you game him while he was here.

Thanks for the thoughts guys....
Kinda had an end to ole yeller moment this evening. I didnt make it home before my son's football practice (I coach there ll team)..and when I got home the wife and my daughter were in the yard with Bella and the 2 pups.....I almost lost it in the car because he wasn't running up to the car...I made small talk with my son and kinda stalled to compose myself (yeah..ok call me a puss...I get it) but then I opened the door and the male pup (11 weeks old) was sitting outside the truck door with the tennis ball in his mouth wagging his tail... Yes I cried like a baby.... and yes were are keeping that puppy now. |

I had two cats for 12 years.
Two months ago I lost my male cat...died from Kidney failure. This last weekend I had to put down my female cat...had an bad tooth, stopped eating on Tuesday, I was out of town on business until Friday. Took her to the vet on Saturday, because she had stopped eating for too long her Liver was going bad...Had to get her to eat to get liver better so they could do surgery on the tooth....cat couldn't keep anything down, just puked things up, then on Sunday at noon we had to put her down. SUCKS HARD! I am angry and very very sad. My feelings go out to you and yours. Nogram. |

I have a 6-year old yellow lab that was diagnosed with cancer a few weeks ago. Saddens me (and pisses me off actually) to think that she has to go so soon. I'm already feeling your pain...sorry for your loss.
