NOFL Summary Thread
Here is a thread that centralizes all of the rules/settings we have determined so far. This post will be updated as we decide future settings:
Name: Night Owl Football League (NOFL) - Note this isn't official, yet. But, it's the leader with 5 people in favor and we still have several who haven't voted. Definitely a Pac-10 team. I'd be happy with any one of 3 that I'm considering. Still looking over their rosters on OS (at least the top 7 on each team.) |

Here is the link to see teams top 7 players over on OS (copied from the poll thread on pick now or later.) It runs from pages 99 to about 115, but you can just keep clicking next team to go through every team in reverse alphabetical order:

I definitely have no interest in the PAC 10 teams. Just no connection with any of them, other than thinking that Oregon's unis are the ugliest that I have ever seen.

Yes, he is. Posted to let him know to pick whenever he wants in the other thread. I'm thinking a day's time is more than enough to pick or pass. I'll PM him if he hasn't picked by this evening. |

I'll be happy any of the four conferences. I'm not just saying this either.

I'm prob leaning towards Pac 10 too. If I'm able to whoop on EF and HA every season...christ I think I might just wet myself. Then again, if all of the spots are taken by the 5th pick I'll be more than happy to play Kodos ever year in the conference championship.

Just curious... how come you guys are splitting into 4 conferences instead of, say, two?
Is there going to be any requirement for scheduling human teams in non-conference games?

We voted on 4 conferences of 3 teams each. I don't think we'll have a requirement for non-conference games since 1 to 3 conference games (and possibly the bowl game) every year will be against a human.

Cartman is back, I think. We didn't want 2 conferences because their wouldn't have been enough teams under an overall rating of 80. I think 4 conferences won because it would provide the most variety of teams available for selection. Also, with only a few human vs human games each year, we'll be able to move faster through the season while still potentially recruiting against everyone (although with these smaller schools, I imagine most of us will be recruiting regionally at least during the first few seasons.) |

One thing I like about the going with four conferences over two is the bigger possibilities for BCS fighting and post-season match ups. |

Prolly a stupid question, but are we playing with real rosters? I seem to remember something about the rosters being downloadable over XBox Live this year...

Yes, definitely real rosters. Probably a set by Fairdale Kings that will be released on OS as well as the EA online service. That reminds me, everyone will need to register at EA's online service which can be done within the game. It's no additional charge and only takes a minute.

Can you redshirt players in an online dynasty? It would be interesting to see the strageties that are used with the redshirts. Do you use it on the current rosters (sit your top players for a year, but get an extra year of development)? Do you try to go long-term by sitting your incoming freshman recruits for a year, sacrificing the talent when you need it the most (as crappy as we are), but get an extra year of development and the ability to build a team that is more competitive down the line?

I'm sure you can redshirt players in the online dynasty, and you could do it last year in the offline dynasty. They said everything included in the offline dynasty last year will be included in the online dynasty this year.

Redshirts will get pissed if they don't think they deserve it and transfer, and particularly if it is done after their freshman year. So, I see myself rarely using it unless it is a player who is weaker on my team or buried on the depth chart. That being said, the strategy will be interesting.

That being said, one thing I remember about last year was that it was way too easy to persuade your players that were wanting to transfer to stay. I don't think I ever lost anybody, actually.
So unless they fixed that, I'll be redshirting the first couple of years for sure. |

It takes away points from recruiting, right? Does it hit any reputation ratings? Can you persuade juniors (RS sophomores) to stay? Last edited by Galaxy : 06-30-2008 at 08:43 PM. |

I'm sure he meant expectation. I expect Locker to have a huge year running the ball, but his lack of receivers may hurt the passing game. I'm not too sure about the defense as I've only seen how EA rated the top 7 guys. It is going to be hard for anyone to give a solid projection until they have seen their entire roster. However, with the limited info I have, I expect at least 6 wins and will be happy with 8 or more. I know we have one stars at LB and if we have a better defense than I think we do, I'll raise that expectation.

i'm expecting a really good ground game. i would like to see my QB in action to see how well he can run the option, option is a big part of my offense. if he can run it decently i think the RB i have is gonna be able to get HUGE chunks of yards on the ground.
which opens up my play action. not good news for you folks. |

Well...I'm not exactly expecting huge things. I have a senior HB and a senior QB, but neither of them are exceptionally good. I dunno if anybody has people over 84 OVR...but I have only 1 guy. I figure a 6-5 season will be a success, and I can hopefuly squeeze out a 4 or 5 star California boy who was turned off by the big boys for whatever reason.

Yes, from the videos I've seen, the option defense is fixed. It seems much more realistic. I guess once we get our hands on it, we'll know for sure though. As far as roster, I don't think think ours is the best, but it is definitely in the top 3. I do think we have the most dangerous QB with Locker's 87 speed and good arm strength. However, our only other really good player is a linebacker and if I recall correctly a center. |

I have one great guard, and then nothing else above 85 IIRC. Looks like Sean Canham is the starting QB, and is actually semi-decent in the game (unlike real life).
Interestingly Sammy Stroughter isn't on my list of top 5 players, maybe because he was injured last year? IRL, clearly one of the top 5 receivers in the conference before the injury. EF - does the Fairdale Kings roster set edit ratings at all, or just names and numbers? |

That's one of the reasons I took A&M. Not many Florida teams to choose from, so being the only texas team in here might give me an advantage in recruiting.

i'm starting to think Terps and i are going to cancel each other out, which us being in the same state. that's going to emerge as NOFL's "must-see" rivalry, as far as human vs. human is concerned. we're going to fight each other for NC-region recruits and probably face each other once a year with each team alternating beating the other.
i really was gonna go for Oklahoma State. i liked their top 7 and they seem to be well positioned on the map. recruiting-wise Sun Tzu, Fozzie and Kodos are in fantastic shape being either in outstanding recruiting hotbed states/regions and having no other human controlled team within distance. I don't know. I imagine Duke is going to have bad ratings for most of the areas that recruits value. I think NC-State is going to be winning most of those battles, at least in the recruiting realm.

Have to agree here. His positives during recruiting will be excellent/elite academics and the ACC's conference prestige. Everything else should be incredibly poor. Even if Hell Atlantic turns out to be a joystick legend it should take years to turn the program around. |

rats! i wanted a challenge, but not too big a challenge. guess i got my work cut out for me. when i played the demo i wasn't kicking the computer's ass or anything. i wasn't trying too hard to win though, just testing out the option and seeing if i could run my play-action offense. game looks real nice. i'm gonna back off my statements of pwning people and making them see how my ass tastes. i should win about 5 games, 6 games tops if i'm lucky. don't think that's enough for a bowl bid. |
