E3 2012
Microsoft kicks off the convention at 9:30 pst. What are you guys looking forward to seeing? I'm still hoping we get a glimpse of next gen gaming for Sony or Microsoft.

Not very excited about the next generation of consoles. This generation has been fairly disappointing. One could argue that football games were better last generation.

I am looking forward to the "game changing" announcement about Madden (and hopefully NCAA) today.

I'm greatly intrigued by the new Star Wars game 1313. I'm hoping for something with some depth and, perhaps, a Mass Effect style gameplay.

Is it bad that I have money set aside for whatever new system comes out in the next three years? I hope Sony announces something groundbreaking because I am bored with my PS3.

I'm the opposite. Feel like we're in that stage where makers are getting the most of out of the systems. I hate the first couple years of a new console as nothing seems to work right.

Opening salvo was Halo 4, followed by a lengthy debut of the new Splinter Cell: Blacklist
I somehow feel as though I should be more excited/impressed than I am. My son, on the other hand, is ooh'ing and aah'ing with nearly every scene change so far.

You're right however I am hoping that the next gen focuses on making games that are actually worth 60 bucks instead of 8 hours films with a playable level thrown in between (i.e. Metal Gear).

That, and this is the stage where you can really see how far the developers have come with the hardware. Compare, say, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 to, well, any contemporary RPG. The combination of no longer porting from the previous generation and really learning the hardware has done wonders. |

I'd agree, but watching (or reading) this Microsoft presentation is depressing. Halo 4, Splinter Cell (that looks like Call of Duty), fucking BING.. is this 2010? Now we talk about streaming sports (Edit: 24/7 ESPN that you need a cable subscription for in the first place? Who gives a shit? If I want to watch SportsCenter I'll watch it on my damn TV that I am paying cable for ) Lovely. I think the Xbox is flatlining and needs something new. The hardware is old as shit, and as a PC gamer I am ready for some new hardware that isn't outpaced by a 6 year old PC (for the ports). Last edited by Scoobz0202 : 06-04-2012 at 01:11 PM. |

I thought the possibility for easily getting E3 games off my PC and onto my TV was actually one of the few interesting things I saw so far. Not exactly a gamechanging OMG moment, but since quite a few games of interest to me each Saturday were been on E3 only last season it was at least something I might use once in a while.

I'm mainly looking forward to the Wii U stuff tomorrow. Nintendo said their presentation was going to focus solely on that but hopefully we hear some news about 3DS games this week as well. Maybe Sony will convince me that I should get a Vita at some point too.
The Tomb Raider stuff looked pretty sharp just now, then the developer goes on stage to talk about timed exclusive DLC well before the game even comes out. One of the things I hate about modern console gaming. |

Yea, me too. That was one of the few (maybe only) things I have seen that gives me hope. I really hope they don't blow it.
Maybe I'll play some RE6? I dunno. Thats a big maybe, though. Hey Jon, you up and dancing right now? Last edited by Scoobz0202 : 06-04-2012 at 01:46 PM. |

Okay, the South Park guys did manage a pretty good shot at the utter absurdity that has been today's connectivity spiel.

I actually thought the opportunity to do the Hustle might finally be what gets my wife interested in Xbox.

You can tell this is solely for the investors. Because who else would be watching this shit at 1:30 on a Monday afternoon outside of nerds. Not the "atheletes"(Nike) or the casual gamers that will play the rest of the stuff they have shown.
Then their usual cash cows, Halo, CoD, and banking on the history of Tomb Raider and RE6, for their games. |

My son (again) ... and I think he's right about this.
The bearded solider urging you on after the crash in the BlOps2 trailer, sounded like Merle from Walking Dead

I sat through a couple of MS dud pressers back in the day, but wow. I feel like I dodged a bullet not having had to actually cover this one.

I'm not a big Counter Strike player and wasn't sure I'd get this one as soon as it comes out, but after playing around a bit in the beta I'll certainly get it when it releases for $15. |

Ubisoft with the first BOOM. Displayed a game that looked Deux Ex/GTA/Hitman all rolled into one? I don't even know what it is called.

Yea, that's it.
I was looking it up as well, and Heavy Rain was a reference I saw thrown out there as well. Depends upon how much is scripted, for sure. Unsure about it, but I am definitely intrigued. Anything that is original is good, imo. Unless it's fucking awful EDIT: I just watched that. They showed that before they showed actual gameplay. The gameplay actually looks interesting. Will have to see if it gets posted soon. Last edited by Scoobz0202 : 06-04-2012 at 07:37 PM. |

I enjoyed EDGE's report on the MS Conference. Harsh but hard to argue too much. Though I guess these conferences are more for the media and investors than they are for us these days.

Well nothing Vita related did anything for me in the Sony conference other than the Assassin's Creed game.
Assassin's Creed III does look pretty good. So does Watch Dogs and Rayman Legends. edit: meant to add the new Sim City game as well. The graphics are nice, hopefully it plays just as good. Last edited by Big Fo : 06-04-2012 at 10:58 PM. |

After work I got home and watched Nintendo's conference, it wasn't too good either. Scribblenauts Unlimited was the only thing shown that I liked which I wasn't already aware of. I mean I'll be all over the Mario games, Pikmin 3, Rayman Legends, etc. but I'd heard about those for months now. And then an interesting looking game like Project P-100, coming from a developer with such a good track record, wasn't even shown.
I also wanted to know when the Wii U is coming out, how much it will cost, and get a better idea of what its specs are. Hopefully some of this info will be revealed in the coming days. Overall I liked Ubisoft's conference the best. |
