LOL @ Recruiters

So back when things looked grim I threw my resume up and I was job-hunting. Had a couple nibbles and a few recruiters but nothing intense.

Now that we're in the black and hitting an inflection point I had one recruiter call me like 3 weeks ago or so, and I just had a guy from Fidelity call me.

I guess I should take my resumes down and gently extricate myself from the Fidelity-thing. Can't be a jerk because you don't want to burn any bridges, but not really interested.

I don't know...just the timing couldn't have been worse I guess.

Not their fault, just kind of ironic that when things were bad there were no jobs to be had and now things are looking much better (will be in the black, readjusting our salary structure, i have 10% of the company) they are starting to call.

I call this 'being a sheep', when everything is bad they go 'baaaaaah...d' and throw up their hands and act like they can do nothing about it. They miss out on the option to pick up a lot of distressed assets or workers, and are behind the curve when the sheep are herding towards greener pastures. Might be the 'safe' thing to do, but you can bet the first flock to the new pasture is going to have the most fun.

Yeah. Like...sure...I'd like to work for Fidelity. But you're going to offer me what...50k to be a small fish in your big pond?

Here I'm already ~40k and with my 10% of what's coming revenue-wise I feel pretty confident I'll be well up over 50k by the end of 2010 - in fact if things continue to go well I could see myself pushing 6-figures by the end of 2010 or Q1 2011.

well we're hitting an inflection point and taking off in our business, and our model is such that we essentially get paid commissions for 5 years on a single sale...so yeah. and i have 10% of the company, so my salary will stay fixed at whatever it ends up at (i'm thinking it'll get bumped a little) and then i get 10% of each commission check for 5 years (and i intend to keep our overhead real low so the net is strong)

I can't believe we drove around all day, and there's not a single job in this town. There is nothing, nada, zip!
