College Basketball Recruiting (2014 Thread)

I apologize if we already had a thread for this, but I searched and didn't find one. Mods can delete if there's already one I missed.

Anyway, 5* recruit, #13 player in the country (via Rivals, so grain of salt applies) Dwayne Morgan commits to UNLV over Georgetown and Maryland.

NCAA Basketball recruiting

Apologize if there is already a thread, and I wasn't able to find it .

Holy $4it !! Has there ever been a recruiting class like Kentucky this year ?

They already have commits from the #2, #4, #5, #10, #13, & #18 nationally ranked recruits (according to Rivals.com). They're also on a short list to land top recruit Andrew Wiggins (I just watched a video of him, and DAMN.)

If they land him, that would give them 4 of the top 5 recruits ??!!?? 5/10 and 7/18.

Maybe they can win a NIT game next year.

So the Fab 7 then? I wonder how much they're getting paid and whether or not the NCAA would do anything if something was uncovered.

True. I suck at titles that don't contain alliteration or academic wordplay (which is why I spent three weeks trying to come up with a title for thesis and am still not happy with it)

Zena Edosomwan was officially admitted to Harvard after taking a post-graduate year. He was a top 100 recruit for the 2012 HS class, but did not get in last year. Rather than taking a scholarship offer from Cal or UCLA he went to prep school for a year and was admitted to Harvard this cycle. Huge basketball pick-up.

Why do people continue to assume Calipari/UK needs to pay kids? He's shown he's pretty much perfect for 1 and dones - i.e. he gets them to the NBA lottery, the school has ridiculous dorms and facilities, and they set them up with the easiest possible college intro classes. (And then if you need the "cool" factor, there's Worldwide Wes in the corner with all his LeBron/Jay-Z/Young Money/Illuminati connections.)

The crazy thing is that Poythress and Cauley-Stein are coming back.

The NCAA restricted Wes' access at the NCAA tournament. Makes you wonder if they've got their sights set on him for something.

USC has hired Tony Bland and Jason Hart, two great recruiters. Looking forward to see what they get done in the upcoming seasons.

If you are aiming for one and done, you pretty much don't need any set up for easy classes.

Eventually they'll need an X's and O's guy.

I dont think Bland has been hired yet. Word is he might meet with Arizona still.

No worries, I've seen people referring to him as that on Twitter. HIghly unlikely that he goes to Kentucky. I get the feeling he goes to Florida State so he can be the man a la Kevin Durant for his one season in college.

If the school wants to maintain its APR with this approach, players leaving for the NBA need to be eligible when they leave (just ask UConn!), and Cal does this. I'm sure most of the players aren't writing a ton of stuff themselves, but I remember doing very little work in several of my freshmen year classes. I've seen articles about John Wall and others where they buy in to the idea that going to easy, intro classes and being a "college student" for a year is fun.

So we already had Goodluck Okonoboh and Dwayne Morgan on board for a Top 25 class. Found out this afternoon that Top 10-20 recruit Rashad Vaughn of Findlay Prep committed to stay in Las Vegas and go to UNLV. What an exciting class!
