Laptop Power / Power Adapter Question

Ok...I am stumped...I am thinking it has to do with the power supply on the laptop versus the power adapter.

Plug in power adapter, light is green on the adapter and juice is flowing.

Plug in power adapter to laptop it shuts off. Almost like it has a surge protector action happening...

I am getting ready to mess with it and see if it sitting all night un plugged allows it to work.

Anyone experience this?

is that with the battery in that that happens, or with the battery out? If it's with the battery out, or a battery that holds no juice anymore it could just be a loose connection for any of a number of reasons, or the power supply not getting enuf juice thru to the laptop...

if with the battery in then yeah...that's weird

It's with it both in and out...just retested it and it's not working...even with the laptop completely powered off, when I plug in the adapter...it basically shorts out for all intense purposes.

yeah - sounds like some sort of shorty/surgey issue.

of course it could just be a loose connection on the motherboard and the battery is totally run down to empty...

DOLA...

So the machine is completely powered off....battery removed...I plug in the power adapter and bam...the adapter shuts off..

I am just trying to pin point this...do you think it's a short on the MB? Cause I am feeling that is the issue...if so, am I screwed?

I've had this happen and it ended up being a bad connection where the AC adapter plugs into the laptop. For a while it switches to battery and you might not notice. Once the battery is drained, it won't work at all because it isn't getting any power from any source. I think the laptop can be taken apart and the connection resoldered or reattached by a computer shop.

yep. i've had the same thing happen - that's why i was wondering about battery in and battery out tests. sounds like that may be the case...in which case it's not a difficult fix for a competent computer repair shop

What was your cost when you did this?

Well...the news today as I took my laptop in to the shop...

It was the power adapter...it had a split wire inside it causing it to back surge...computer repair shop sold me a used adapter for $10 so I can resume laptop life again.
