Teaching Sociology through Film basically means I get to force my favorite films upon my class. That being said, even Shawshank, Dead Poets, and Rashomon get tiresome. So, the one movie I still enjoy and look forward to seeing is:

12 Angry Men

On a side note. The movie that gets the highest rating from my high school students is: It Happened One Night

The Princess Bride although at this point I have seen it so often it kind of takes extra motivation to watch it again.

Books and songs favorites I can understand but movies tend to bring out more extreme reactions, I think. Wes Anderson movies? Seriously? Not to mention Casablanca and Bull Durham.

Try to have an open mind. Rushmore came out in 1998, I saw it when I was probably 15 for the first time. A certain coming of age movie for me. Some movies connect with people in different ways- don't be so short-sighted.

After the shawshank, dead poets and life is beautiful trifecta anything that does not involve tragic deaths I think is appreciated. I think the students also like seeing how something so old can still being funny, edgy and sweet.

There are three movies that if I see them on I will watch to conclusion so it would have to be one of them. They are: The Princess Bride, Die Hard and The Lost Boys.

I would have to say The Princess Bride.

It is interesting that the movies picked here are judged on repeat watch-ability, like songs. However, there is something to be said about first watch greatness.

For example, I have no desire to ever watch Raiders, Babel or Dark Knight again, but those were probably the best first time experience.

Maybe it's recency bias, but Seven Samurai is the first movie that comes to mind.

Yeah, I think there is a significant dichotomy between repeatability and experience. I would some of the favorites would be the rare movies that are both, which is how I feel about Godfather, Gettysburg and Baraka. Some movies are great but only one time through, but for others (like me), my favorite books, songs and movies are those I want to experience over and over.

Yeah that would likely be mine, although it's something I can only watch every couple of years. I don't think you will ever find a movie of the same length in which absolutely every single scene is as well thought out or important as in this film.

Another Toshiro Mifune movie Samurai Saga/Life of an Expert Swordsman is a close favourite of mine too. It's a Japanese telling of the Cyrano de Bergerac story, but Mifune just absolutely nails it.
