New Tampa Bay Buccaneers uniform features throwback orange, reflective chrome | Audibles - SI.com
More shots here. I like the red ones. Also as I suspected, the sleeves aren't as dark as the Martin Pic suggests. |

I'd be surprised if any non-Offensive Lineman wouldn't regularly be able to kick a 19 yard PAT.

Steelers inexplicably use the transition tag on Jason Worilds. In between turning down a gimme 3rd for Manny Sanders, and the Max Starks transition tag debacle of about 5 years ago, I'm really not sure we understand how the cap actually works in the modern NFL. Worilds is an okay dude, but nothing screams I wanna pay him 9.75m for the 2014 season when we have have some major needs all over. I'm hoping they have a long term deal ready to go.

I ike the Bucs helmet, but that uniform is terrible. And what's with the style of numbers? It's like someone's said 'young people like computers, let's put numbers on that look a bit computery'.

Make it more radical (the PAT).
Kick from regular distance for 1 point. Option to go for 2 as now. Option to kick from 50+ for 3 points, but if you miss the other team gets the ball at the spot unless they return it. I did also like the idea someone had which was to kick it like rugby, in the sense that you kick it from the angle where the TD was scored. So if they guy scored the TD at the sideline, you kick from the sideline. |

I like this idea. Except I think they'd also need the two-point conversion out to the 12 yard line. It's a passing league and there really isn't much room to work with from the two. Quote:
Never happen at the NFL level. Just way too much invested in the players financially. It would be interesting to see at the college level though.

That's the idea I like, too. It would make end game scenarios much more interesting. If a team's down by 7 they would not only have to score a TD, but would have to worry about where they entered the end zone. The PAT for the tie would be much more interesting rather than a throw away play.

It would add an interesting dimension. Though I'd add that the PAT be kicked from the line-of-scrimmage of the scoring play.

I liked the other idea that eliminated the extra point kick entirely, and instead gave you an option to go for two at a risk of losing a point. I don't want to see kicking become a more important part of the game. Teams making only 83% of their extra point kicks would be a pretty huge change.

Where do you spot the ball? Do you allow blockers and defenders to play out of bounds? The ball has to be covered on both sides...so... Plus a 19 yarder fro the sideline is virtually unhittabe so youd just bring in the punter snapper and snap it 15-20 yards instad of 7 to get a angle. Why not just eliminate holders and make drop kicks the rule |

Set the PAT hash marks five yards from the out of bounds line. And if teams want to make it a 40 yd PAT they are free to do so.

The rugby thing wouldn't work as you'd have no way of effectively placing the two lines for a kick taken at an angle from the sideline, unless you emulated rugby completely and got rid of the snap and lines and just took a static kick.
Eliminating the kick altogether sounds good, either make what is now a two-point conversion worth one point or give the team the choice of taking seven points or going for a conversion and coming away with six or eight depending on the outcome. Or just move extra points back so that they become less automatic. That seems the most obvious and easy one. |

Move extra points back to the 23 yard line. That's the one I can get behind.

Vick would be an often injured band-aid at best for the Vikings. I think Josh McCown would be a better band-aid.

I think you still go for 2 from the same spot. Most teams would choose to kick the XP I think, but I also think there would be a lot of chances for coaches to make a 50/50 call on a windy day or in less than ideal conditions. It would add a lot of suspense to games I think, and kickers would become a lot more important. It is intriguing. It would give you a lot better idea of which kickers were good I think, giving them all dozens of 40 yarders every year to prove themselves.

Agree with eliminating the XP except in cases where they want to go for 2(at the cost of potentially losing a point). All of the other suggestions are kind of dumb. What I'd like to see is less of the "td" commercial break "xp" commercial break "kickoff" long commercial break "other team finally gets ball" stretch. Those extra commercials in there make the game intolerable to watch sometimes. good forbid the TD gets challenged and they can work an extra break in there somehow.

Problem is that this has nothing to do with shortening the games. This will be an opportunity to shove another commercial in between the TD and Kickoff.

I know there are bigger stories in NFL free agency, but it will be pretty interesting to see what unfolds for Trindon Holliday. What is a sensible offer for a guy like that?

Why not? Cap at an all time high and Henne at the very least is one of the best backups in the league. And maybe he's a good mentor. Gabbert was never going to be any good no matter who mentored him

Henne is a good bad QB. That Jags team was very competent once he took over. 4m is upper tier "maybe" starter type range these days. Guys like Orton and Casselroughly get that. I believe in Gus Bradley.

Cassel just signed for $10 mil over 2 years to essentially do the same job.

Has anyone been paid more to be worse repeatedly like Cassel has? He's taken that ridiculously brief stint of awesome in New England and wrung every last bit out of it.

Re: Trindon Holliday - I think teams might see him as a borderline guy, one you sign if you have an injury in the stretch run to a return man.. I just think most would hesitate to put the ball in his hands consistently with his penchant for putting it on the ground. I don't think he gets a job until after the season starts, but I think a lot of teams will work him out and put him on their shortlists.

Flynn may end up being the perfect example of what a system can do for a QB. He plays pretty damn well for Green Bay, but it seems he is lost elsewhere.

Wasn´t Flynn simply hampered by a bum elbow for much of last season ? Other than that he got beat out by Russel Wilson (who seems kinda good, but i dunno ...)
I would hardly compare him to a guy like Cassell.
