Both of the other WRs to be on the Madden cover (Larry Fitzgerald and Calvin Johnson) played in all 16 games, and went to the pro bowl, in that season.

Not a lot of chatter about this game on the board. After looking at the Madden board over at OS, I see why. Not a lot to be excited about.

Is there a slider setting for over/under inflated balls?

I'll check it out on the vault first.. then decide. Most likely wait until it's free on the vault like I did NBA Live.

I was promised if EA Sports lost the NCAA license, we would have all sorts of college football games that were vastly superior to the NCAA series.

I still suspect if the court cases are ever settled that will be the case. Right now the rules of engagement aren't defined and to build a game from the ground up around an unknown set of rules that may require an entire new re-write next year isnt an especially attractive idea. Now let the courts define the parameters and I think some players will emerge. |

So we should expect the next college game sometime in 2525? The only thing a game developer would have to rewrite would be the player and school databases (something EA could have done) if the landscape changed. I'm honestly not sure how profitable the NCAA game was for EA for it to be dropped so easily.

Madden claims to finally be addressing one of my biggest pet peeves:
Penalties have long not been a big part of the Madden NFL experience. This year, EA is hoping to change that legacy, which you can read fully fleshed out on their new blog: Quote: "Our hardcore simulation fans have been demanding realistic penalties for years. The team finally made this a point of emphasis in Madden NFL 16, and penalties will play a bigger factor than ever before. In addition to several new penalties being added, we have updated all pre-existing penalties and built a system to control penalty frequency." What This Means: Every player is going to get a penalty trait based on real-world NFL data, which will determine how likely they are to commit a penalty. Also, how you play the game will determine how many penalties are called as well. A pressing cornerback is used as an example, where your chances of seeing a defensive holding penalty are higher than if he is playing loose. The penalty sliders also are getting a makeover, with the default setting based on NFL penalty averages over the last five seasons, which will make penalty type and frequency as authentic as possible, so EA says. Penalties which got the updated treatment include: Encroachment, False Start, Offensive Holding, Facemask, Defensive Pass Interference, Illegal Block in the Back, Neutral Zone Infraction, Defensive Holding, Illegal Forward Pass, Illegal Touching, Delay of Game, Kick Catch Interference Running into the Kicker, Unnecessary Roughness and Roughing the Passer. |

This could be great if implemented properly. But I can see the game crashing if two penalties are committed at the same time by the same team or if there are offsetting penalties. This is EA.

Watching some gameplay videos and, wow, gotta say I'm really disappointed. It looks like the same exact game with the same exact flaws. Tight Ends will lose pretty much anyone when they break to the outside, runs right up the middle are still wide open most of the time from single back sets.
Penalties? There were two in the two quarters of the game I watched.

Found this at OS. Debating whether or not to get it. At this point, I haven't regularly played a Madden game since the PS2 era ended.
If you are an Amazon Prime member, you can pre-order Madden NFL 16 (Standard Edition only) for $45.02 on Xbox One and $49.99 on PlayStation 4. Add it to your cart to see the price. Xbox One ($45.02) PlayStation 4 ($49.99) Quote: Members of Amazon Prime qualify for a lower price on this item when shipped and sold by Amazon. Add it to your cart and see the discount at the final check out page. Offer will be extended to all existing Prime member pre-orders. |

I'm pretty disappointed with what I've seen so far this year. Unless they have something special they haven't revealed, I'll just stick with Madden '15.

I'm quite surprised after one game... played Rams vs Titans and I actually like the pop up icons when catching balls. Had a great jump ball catch with Britt for a nice gain. Pretty cool with those options, YAC/jump ball/possession. You can do similar moves when playing DB - press B to select the closest player to the ball and then decide what you want to do.
Running the ball is great and the CPU team with Mariotta was tearing me up on the ground and in the air. Haven't seen one penalty yet.. I thought that was fixed this year? Love all the stat pop ups and what not. Biggest thing for me is it feels like a football game.. no more rushing 10 carries for 11 yards. (default AP) Going to play all 10 hours and see if that makes me purchase. |

Yeah, I haven't turned my PS4 on in about 3 months, and debating whether to go PC or PS4 for NBA 2K16. Unless Madden gets reviews that make it sound significantly better than last year's title, I'm out. I don't think I played even 10 games last year.

Played another game on longer quarters and had 7-8 penalties! Encroachment, offside, holding, etc...
It's been a VERY LONG time since I played Madden and so far, I'm REALLY liking what I'm seeing. Passing has never felt so good.. thanks Nick Foles I'm not sure what has been added as I didn't play last years game.. but being able to throw high/low/lobs and then having my player try to catch and run/jump/make a possession catch is a thing of beauty. Todd Gurley had 86 yards and Sankey had over 100 for the Titans. Both backs were around 4 ypc. Defense is tough.. the CPU does a great job of play calling.. Of course I need to get better with the controls. Stats, stats, stats.. they are everywhere! Love all the stat popups during the game. Running feels like running too.. image that. I can actually move into the holes through the line. Back to another game! |

The Eagles just smoked me 24-0.. I had some great drives, but couldn't do anything. Murray had 174 yards rushing on me.. yowzers!
The running game is great.. no console football has a runner ran like that on me. Last edited by MizzouRah : 08-20-2015 at 09:32 PM. |

I have to admit so far I am impressed with the new version...even on All Pro the computer is given me a tough time, which wasn't typical in the past. Really nice to see actual penalties called for once and my passing/running game is no longer automatic.
I am sure someone will discover some game breaking issue like every year, but maybe we are finally moving in a good direction. |

I had no idea Draft Champions would be this freaking cool.
There are 15 rounds and you start off drafting a head coach, which determines your off/def play calling, then you draft your team (there are only 3 players to pick from in each round/the same with the coaches). Who do you pick? Get Rivers only to see Brady in a later round? Focus on defense or your OL? The last round is a legend player. I had Rivers as my QB, Green-Beckham and Watkins at WR, Gronkowski at TE, Mosely at LB, JJ Watt at DE, I forget the rest.. my legend pick was Tomlinson. You then play up to 3 games and each game gets harder. It's 3 minute quarters, so the pace is fast and furious. Game 1 Tomlinson ran for 122 yards, I had a 60 yard TD run that was a thing of beauty.. he was hit in the backfield and then went though the line and turned on the speed and scampered 60 yards into the endzone. I barely won though.. 27-21 in OT on a screen pass to Tomlinson and a 16 yard TD. They had Geno Smith at QB.. don't remember the rest of the team. I agree with SlyBelle.. playing a normal game or DC.. I'm really impressed with Madden 16. I'm almost done with my 10 hours, but it has me wanting to play it non-stop. Preordered it digitally with EA Access and 10% off. Looks like I finally have a football game to play after many years of only playing college football. More on Draft Champions... One of the nicest things so far is I haven't been compelled to mess with the gameplay sliders at all...been on default for All-Pro. I grow tired of trying to tweak the games and often just stop playing, so very pleasant surprise so far. I have upped the penalties a little bit, but that's it.

Damn it, you guys are making it sound pretty good. In particular, I can't remember the last time an AI opponent has run effectively against me in any of the last dozen previous versions of Madden. It piques my interest to hear that they've at last managed to change something that I've just accepted as broken for seemingly decades, rather than the fractional changes I've come to accept from the series.
That said, I wonder if the biggest hurdle to my enjoyment of Madden is just how old the series is, and the lack of any surprise. There's been a couple of recent versions that played remarkably better, and entertained me for a week or two, but because this series has been so deeply entrenched in my life I feel like it's got a half-life for enjoyment that is extremely short....like as soon as there's some cracks in my enjoyment, the decay is immediate and total, and I go from a couple weeks of solid, fun play to never touching the game again.

In my last game against Miami, Miller ran for over a 100 yards against me with around 25 carries or so...that was the other nice thing, they actually kept trying to run versus throwing the ball all over the place. One other thing that has been improved is the CPU punting...they are actually capable of putting the ball within your 10 yard line...usually in the past they would boot it out of bounds in a short distance or put it through the endzone. I do hear what your saying about the series, I am kind of the same way. When it first comes out, I'll play it a lot, but often I drift away from it. I actually think part of my problem is the fact its only on my console which is in a general place shared by the family. If this game would come back out on the PC, I bet I would play a ton more. |

I agree.. it's pretty good for me out of the box on AP defaults, 15 minute quarters and accel clock to 12 seconds - plays a good game of football (I'm trying all penalties at 55 - someone at OS said that gives him roughly 11-12 total penalties per game). I'm a rookie though as it's been years since I really felt compelled to keep playing a Madden game. I'm getting hammered by teams. |
