RIP Rush Limbaugh

(that is all I will say, under the "If you can't say anything good about someone..." rule)

Definitely a very interesting rise to power. It's kind of similar to Howard Stern in how he bounced around, clashed with management, couldn't find his footing for a while, and then found a super-lucrative niche that hadn't really been exploited by anyone else yet to that degree (but was then copied a million times). Though I think Limbaugh actually got fired more often. And he failed out of college.

Not sure about that. He had a pretty good sense of humor, so he would probably be looking up and laughing his ass off.

About time. Hard to believe I used to listen to his show and have read two of his books. Good riddance.

Remember when ESPN hired him as a commentator and he made it about 2 weeks before saying something racist?

Regardless of personal feelings, credit for what he accomplished, though that was not always positive. He made his mark.

Still, he was a fellow human, with a family, so R.I.P

I always struggle when someone evil dies. It's hard to balance the dignity of every person and them being a child of God with the evil they unleashed in the world. This dilemma falling on Ash Wednesday is even more interesting. I'll have to ponder on it.

I didn't like his show or his opinions but I didn't consider him evil.

I did like his appearances on Family Guy.

He probably brought some awareness to addiction issues that his followers would have generally considered to be about weakness, or a poor person's problem. I don't know how much of that was by choice, or how much it was just him getting into trouble and that becoming news, but I guess that's something. I remember being surprised about how upfront he was about his issues. (though that was after after years of him criticizing those with such issues).

You know, part of me wanted to take the higher road, but I just couldn't. He was an awful man who spewed a lot of hate. There are a select few in the category where I don't feel at all bad when they die. Rush was one of those people.

I guess God finally cancelled Limbaugh. It's all part of the plan.

Remember that he would hold celebrations on the air for AIDS deaths. Not really sure anyone should be up in arms about celebrating his death.

Can't feel bad about anyone dying who made their money off of hatred and lies. Taking advantage of the gullible and celebrating the death of people who had AIDS. I'm sure one of his 4 wives may feel a bit sad, but, as one of the beacons of the party of family values, I'm sure he paid his debt to society for abusing drugs.

tl;dr - Good riddance

The amazing thing is people on the right will take the comments people are making about Rush and use them to claim how hateful the intolerant left is, completely ignoring the fact they are celebrating the death of one of the most hateful and divisive human beings in the world.

He was an irredeemably terrible human. He profited off of spreading fear and hatred. He celebrated the deaths of people who died from AIDS because he hated them because of their sexuality. The world is a much better place without him.

He paved the way for hate radio, Fox News, and worse, which has made American political discourse the trashcan fire it is today. His success made this country worse, and it's a tiny bit better now that he left.

Yes, I think one can easily draw a line between the hyper partisan hatred Limbaugh peddled in the 90s and Trumpism and the 1/6 insurrection. He was one of the biggest forces in calling your political opponents not just folks who had a difference in opinion but the enemy and unAmerican for their opinions. He has done worse than any other human in poisoning our political discourse.

Another Rush classic was accusing Michael J. Fox of faking his Parkinsons's symptoms.

And calling that law school student who testified at Congress about health insurance birth control coverage a slut.

That seems to be a big thing with you. I don't have to divine your motivations to know what you're about, I can use your statements. And to say that "this thread makes me sad" means one of two things.

One: you're sad that people are dancing on Limbaugh's grave because you believe that there is some moral imperative to stay above the fray after people have passed on.

OR

Two: You liked the guy.

If there's a third, feel free to clarify. Or if not, STFU

I saw plenty of posts on FB today that were, "I thought that the left is full of love, they are such hypocrites for how they are acting after a man has lost his life? Where is the love? I'm not a Christian, but everyone needs a little Jesus in their lives. You might have disagreed with him, but everyone has a right to their opinions and they should be respected, even in death." {not actual quote, but totally could be}

These same people were posting shit about birtherism and liberals that were the enemy, sluts, thugs, white people shouldn't feel any guilt about slavery, dog whistled to white supremacy. On and on.

I feel no guilt about celebrating his death.

Osama Bin Laden was a murderer and an enemy of this country. I celebrated his death.

Rush Limbaugh espoused some political opinions I disagreed with. Condolences to his family and friends.

He did more than "expouse" views. He was a big part of launching an industry of hate for profit that nearly toppled the country. He was a critical step in Trumpism.
