I guess culturally I'm supposed to sit there for 2 hours, but, I have a limited time in their beautiful country, we have shit to do.

Of course this also means I'm only getting one beer because they're never checking on us after the food is served. We have somewhat gotten around this by ordering a bottle of wine off the bat instead.

Are you having lunch or dinner?

There usually is an expectation that if you came to a restaurant to eat, you have time to sit and enjoy your meal experience. This is especially the case if it is more than one person. The thought is if you just wanted to eat, you would hit a kebab shop, food truck or street vendor. If you tell the staff that you are in a rush, I have found that they will speed up the service though it won't be American fast.

So I'm curious...I know I've done a few things we've regretted. when we were young and there wasn't even tiktok around. What things have you guys done that risked your life for no reason when you were growing up?

My best friend and I were at Turkey Run State Park on a school trip with german club. We were bored of the normal trails so we just started climbing up any embankments we could find. We climbed up to a rocky stone area up to where there was forest. We walked around but there wasn't really another way down. There WAS however a large tree that had fallen over and formed a makeshift bridge to another high rocky forest plateau. I had me a nice wizard staff by this point (I love walking sticks/wizard staffs) and for no reason we started shimmying across. My friend seemed to make it with no problem. I was scared to death however once I started across. Dropped my stick because it was not good to hold it instead of the trunk. I watched it fall we were over like a path between the two rocky plateaus and saw people. THere werte people too (tho i didn't drop it on them) I shimmied across inch by inch and stopped looking down. Eventually I made it across. Oh boy. That was so dumb. We eventually found another way down where there were a lot of people where the water was flowing over this rock. I was so freaked out. I think back at it. If we had fallen off the tree it was like 100 feet down or so. Onto smooth rock. I'm sure if I searched on youtube I'd find things like this really

Not on my Bingo card. Even my 2020s Bingo card, which, well, has a lot of crazy on it

Mrs. A and I were discussing this weekend plants and animals that we all don't even think of as weird because they exist, so they seem normal. But if they didn't exist, and they appeared in science fiction, you'd be impressed with the creativity of the author:

Even worse than CFA building on postage stamp sized lots. It was a wreck waiting for a place to happen. local law enforcement protested the design to no avail

And 2) having the longest running severe short staff problem I'd ever seen anywhere. It's kind of a pity. It was really the only BK in the area that didn't feel like it was staffed by Tyrone Biggum's friends & family ... which, come to think of it, actually having some hiring standards might be why it was perpetually shortstaffed.

I saw this online:

Honestly, I have real objections to parents buying that stuff for their kids. It is like when they sell as muffins what are in fact just giant cupcakes. With these cereals, they take an already highly-processed simple carbohydrate product and just add a lot of sugar. If you put the same ingredients in a wrapper and stuck it in the Snacks or Sweets aisles, people would criticize serving that fro kids as a meal. Instead, the word Cereal serves as a fig leaf for being part of a complete healthy breakfast.

The eating habits of this country are beyond embarrassing, and the scourge of avoidable medical conditions that result imposes a real cost on everyone in society. Teaching kids at least good practices and an awareness of the fact that what you put into your body has real consequences should be among the basic standards of sound parenting.

I guess others would have to be the judges of that. Generally, the people at the parties I attend do not consider a desire to educate children out of a concern concern for their long-term health to be cause for derision.

Why are baby foxes so damn cute? I noticed some digging near the steps to my house. I set up some game cameras, and there are apparently two litters of kits living in a den they dug under my front steps. I counted 7 of the little things on one of the videos. I've got a bunch of videos of them playing, nursing when the momma foxes come around, and also have vids of the big foxes bringing back birds and mice they've caught.

Posting this here instead of the Shooting thread because it's off-topic and a bit too lighthearted for that thread.

Random/odd personal fact about the place they caught the Texas shooting suspect - Cut and Shoot TX. Memorable name for a town. We lived in College Station for less than 2 awful years in the early 80s and at some point, we made our way through Cut and Shoot (it's roughly between CS and Houston). We stopped for gas and a bathroom break somewhere. My brother, who was maybe 8 or 9 at the time, was going through a phase where he would rate the cleanliness of every public bathroom he came across. That day, he pronounced the bathroom at whatever gas station we stopped at in Cut and Shoot TX to be the cleanest bathroom he'd ever been in.

Last night when the news of the suspect being captured broke and it specifically mentioned Cut and Shoot, we all texted each other roughly about the same time about how we wondered if Cut and Shoot still had the cleanest bathroom.

Yep. I learned that in a case of one neat person (me) versus three not-so-neat people, I'm going to lose. Always. The clutter can never be defeated.

Ehhhhhh ... the trick is getting the right offers from out-of-state. Then suddenly it's a completely different ball game. Then the cost difference can be negligible.

The tricky part about that is it's tougher to pull off if you haven't spent several years finagling and focusing on that.
