http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/science...box/index.html

Hmmm...so now we're back to square 1 again. Lets put it with the Shroud of Turin.

Many in the evangelical/conservative Christian community never believed stuff like this because we know that our faith is not tied to icons (even though there are quite a bit of archealogical evidence out there). But be aware that there will be more and more of this kind of stuff coming out.

Yah. I'm with Buc on this one (that's a first lately...) I paid this very little attention when the first story hit.

I dunno about this. Some experts said is was real and others said it was fake, I guess its just who you decide to believe.

I agree with A and SD.

The "Jesus Box" is fake.

If you are not a believer, this does not matter to you.

If you are a believer, this does not matter to you.

I can see how this story is newsworthy, but no more so than if evidence of any prominent historical figure was found to be forged.

I remember when this story first came out, a lot of Christians (not on this board) were basically swearing by it. Basically saying "Ah-ha! See, Jesus did exist. This proves it."

Nice to see that, yet again, their "archealogical evidence" turns out to be yet another forgery.

I would be more concerned if it turned out to be real. The writers of the Bible (Holy Spirit) are very intentional to not describe what Jesus looks like, because He knew we would worship the image and not the God.

As a theology student I was skeptical of this box from the beginning. Personally I don't need archaelogical proof that Jesus existed, nor would I ever attempt to use it to try and convince somebody that he does. I prefer to let science be science and theology be theology.

Shouldn't it be called the "James box"? That is whose bones were supposed to have been in it.

When I first head it I thought that it was facinating that something like that would still be around. Most of the important early Christians had thier graves robbed and bones sold for their miraculous powers in the ceturies after their deaths. After all those graves were raided they then started raiding other graves and just saying that the bones were those of this apostle or that. I was very suprised that James's ossuary would still be in tact. I gues the reason why is because it isn't.

To be more precise, the box isn't a fake. It was the inscription that was forged to make it appear to be the ossuary of James.

The box itself, as I understand it, is very much legit when it comes to its age (around 2,000 years or so).

yep. wall mounted, wirless, does not rerquire power, makes its own booze, and will not sink if it falls into water. EA will not be writing titles for it though, so it will probably fail.
