Drafting
Im sure this topic has been brought up many times, but I scrolled back a few pages and saw nothing on it.
First of all, I must say this new system Jim came up with is much more challenging than the olden days, when you pretty much always knew what you were getting and late rd gems were always there for the taking. So anyone figure out how the hell to get the most out of your draft? I try to go for low vol in those early picks, but when youre drafting at the end of the rd, it gets pretty tough to be so choosy. And it seems to be pretty tough to trade around too far. They wont give you anything and they ask for everything. |

Late in the draft I look for a specialty. Maybe a DE or DT who excels at Pass rushing. Or a good punt or kick returner. Also someone who has high special teams rating. The rest of their ratings may suck but this person maybe will make the team as a specialist. High vol also.

When looking at players I pay a lot of attention to the strength, agility, 40 times, and Sole. score for players. If it comes down to 2 players I look for something outside the things we typically look at for that position. Maybe a high solecismic score for a LB, a high strength score for a reciever, or a good agility score for a Offensive Lineman. I don't let a high volatility scare me. I've played 8 seasons so far and I've only been burnt once by it. I usually take the guy with the best combine numbers for his position and hope he has a mid level volatility. Late in the draft if I need a position for roster requirements, then I draft the player with the highest future/volatility combo. In the 7th round I try to take a skill position player with a volatility in the 90s if I haven't drafted one already, they can pay off down the line, I've hit with a couple recievers and a QB doing this.
