January Mixed Games Poker Dynasty
237 players start out with 3000 chips. Limit holdem starts at 50/100. I pick up a nice pot with Kings in the hole when everyone calls me to the river and I spike a King there- up to 4265. I repeat this feat about one orbit later with KK and have 5290.
I have 5140 as limit omaha hi/lo starts at 75/150. I break pretty even this level with several bad losses and one nice win gets me back to 5290. 100/200 stud begins, as most of you know, my weakest game. However, I've been reading up on it in the stud section of Super System, so let's see if Ive learned anything. Well a buried pair of twos and showing queens wins me a few hundred: 5500. Another win with split jacks gets me up to 5905. So far this is a good start. Not stellar, but good. 196 players are left. I already feel much more comfortable at stud, too. I make 200/400 holdem with 5825. 179 players are left. A tough loss to KK followed by letting a guy bluff his chips off to me and Im breaking about even at 5225. A nice win with pocket nines bumps me up to 6925. I end with 7025 after I win a decent pot and then make what I thought was a good read and fold. 149 players of 237 make the first break. Back to limit omaha hi/lo, this time at 300/600. Got rivered by a board pair early and lost about 1000, but Ive been getting some lo sides and crawling back. Currently at 6575. The luckiest guy at the table is to my left. He just rivered a straight against my trips and Im down to 4250. He has really been getting lucky a lot this tournament. That kind of stuff annoys me about poker. 4475 to 500/1000 stud. A small win quickly nets me 500 and I have 4975. 101 players are left at this point. I catch four to a flush and also have kings up by 6th street and Im raised all-in. I f course call, don't hit the flush, and the other guy needs to hit a flush and does. Im out in 98th place. Finished 20th out of 480 or so in a NL Hold 'Em. Since I am not up to your level (yet ), I was very pleased.
Keep adding on here. It is very interesting and gives those of us reading some tips and insight. Good work.

266 players this evening. First hand was a nice one for me. I finally got to take advantage of the total fools that start these tourneys and don't last long. I have AQ in the big blind. About 5 people limp in and I just check. Flop is the miraculous KJT rainbow. I check-call on the flop. River brings a 3 completing the rainbow. Perfect. I check-raise here, and it gets capped. 3 of us cap it and head down to the river. The river comes an Ace. Not my favorite thing to see, but I still have the nuts, but someone else could have them much more easily now. The river is also capped by the three of us. One player turns over K7o, the other A4o. I have 4900 after the first hand. I have to fold AA on the turn a few hands later when there is a raising war after the board pairs fours. Sure enough, a guy shows up with 42o in a raised pot. I lose with top pair to flopped set a few hands later and suddenly I have 3950. I win a nice pot with a pair of fours (against a guy over-playing AK is my guess) and I have 5000.
Omaha hi/lo begins at 75/150 with me at 5000. 261 of 266 have survived the first 15 minutes of the tournament . Win a nice lo split against 3 clueless players and am up to 6310. I pick off a suicidal short stack a few hands later for a few hundred more: 6610. Nothing else really playable so I make it to stud with this amount. 100/200 stud, stack 6610, 234 players left. A busted flush draw and a rivered higher top pair knocks me down under 5000. I win nice pot with Kings full of sixes and am back up to 6420. Seems I was against another suicidal small stack. I fall short with my SECOND four flush on fourth street and drop to 5715. Another loss with split aces and I have 5275. 206 players see the start of holdem at 200/400. My stack sits at 5275, which I'm pretty disappointed about. Pretty much getting hosed throughout this level. Been blinded and limped down to 4275. I seem to stall out around 5000-6000 in these tournaments pretty regularly. I really cant figure this out, because Im not changing the way I play that I can tell, and it almost always happens with a bad break or two in a row. Talk about bad breaks. Ive been dealt 72o FIVE times in this level. This last time was the second time it's happened in the big blind. Flop was K72. I lose to 75 when a five comes on the river. Now down to 1875. I wish I had time to post more detail so I could get some help. No one is this unlucky. I have to be doing something wrong. 167 players make it to 300/600 omaha hi/lo. Looks like its going to be another early exit for me in this one. Pretty disappointing, AGAIN. I know I can do better than this. I win with a flopped set of kings after getting knocked down to 975. I now have 1625. I win the high half of a big pot for 2450. Irritating to split that because I had AKJ2, won the high with Kings and Jacks, and the low hand on board was 234. So I didnt have a low hand. The low winner had 78 . Irritating. Im surviving though. On to 500/1000 stud. Well some fireworks right away, as I have the best starting stud hand Ive ever had: KKK. It holds up against the big stack who was drawing to an ace high straight. He need: a king . Up to 5400! 1000/2000 holdem begins with me at 4400. I lose 1000 right away in the big blind. I lose my hand in the small blind when the big stack flops 3 tens. Out in 89th. Last edited by MJ4H : 01-06-2004 at 07:38 PM. |
