FTBE Challenge - Cheyenne Spirits
Cheyenne Spirits 2002 - Season One
Record: 5-11, 5th place AFC West OFFENSE: 1st - 50, 50, 75, * 2nd - 50, 75, 50, * 3rd - 75, 50, *, * 4th - *, *, *, * * natural game settings FORMATIONS: Running Situations - I Form - 50% Split - 15% Strong - 33% Shotgun - 2% Likely Running Situations - I Form - 54% Split - 13% Strong - 31% Shotgun - 2% Passing Situations - I Form - 27% Split - 11% Strong - 21% Shotgun - 41% Likely Passing Situations - I Form - 25% Split - 10% Strong - 18% Shotgun - 47% 1 WR - 99% 2 WR - 50% PERSONNEL: QB - Alvin Guthrie: ratings in the mid to high 20s across the board. FB - Warren Colbert: has a lot of potential. For now, 27/56/25 run ratings. Carrying 58. Endurance 30. TE - Jerald Barnard: 66/58/61 catch ratings. Carrying 38. Endurance 42. PERFORMANCE:
OVERVIEW: Pretty dismal performance from my FBs, however, Colbert was a rookie with a lot of "green". What is nice to see is that my FBs got as many attempts as my RBs. It was nice also to see that my top TE led my receivers in catching. My WRs really suck right now as well. ------------------ "If he's so smart, how come he's dead!" - Homer Simpson [This message has been edited by Upstate_New_York (edited 02-09-2001).] [This message has been edited by Upstate_New_York (edited 02-09-2001).] [This message has been edited by Upstate_New_York (edited 02-09-2001).] [This message has been edited by Upstate_New_York (edited 02-09-2001).]

Cheyenne Spirits 2003 - Season Two
Record: 6-10, 5th place AFC West OFFENSE: 1st - 33, 50, 75, * 2nd - 50, 75, 50, * 3rd - 75, 33, *, * 4th - *, *, *, * * natural game settings FORMATIONS: Running Situations - I Form - 36% Weak - 27% Strong - 27% Shotgun - 10% Likely Running Situations - I Form - 40% Weak - 25% Strong - 25% Shotgun - 10% Passing Situations - I Form - 20% Weak - 25% Strong - 20% Shotgun - 35% Likely Passing Situations - I Form - 15% Weak- 25% Strong - 20% Shotgun - 40% *I figure that changing from Split to Weak would enhance the chances of my TE getting receptions. 0 WR - 66% 1 WR - 99% 2 WR - 75% PERSONNEL: QB - Alvin Guthrie: ratings boosted to the low 50s across the board. FB - Will Stargell: has a lot of potential. For now, 27/47/27 run ratings. Carrying 56. Endurance 72. TE - Jerald Barnard: 73/52/58 catch ratings. Carrying 41. Endurance 42. * Although Colbert was All-Pro last year at FB, he really had a horrible run average, plus he took a mysterious ratings drop at the beginning of this season.. Stargell has as much potential as Colbert of last year. Barnard is the same from last year, pretty much.
Again, pretty dismal performance from the FBs... outclassed again by the RB corps, and this time a huge attempt disparity. Barnard was out for a bunch of games this year... but overall, the TE to WR catch ratio was 1:2... I like it. Also I had a much better QB to work with this year. Barton had a great year at WR... a surprise because his ratings are slightly below average, except for his remarkable return skills. Anyone ever see poor WRs with great return skills do well? I think this isn't the first time for me. [This message has been edited by Upstate_New_York (edited 02-09-2001).] [This message has been edited by Upstate_New_York (edited 02-09-2001).]

Cheyenne Spirits 2004 - Season Three
Record: 6-10, 5th place AFC West OFFENSE: 1st - 33, 50, 65, * 2nd - 50, 65, 50, * 3rd - 70, 33, *, * 4th - *, *, *, * * natural game settings FORMATIONS: Running Situations - I Form - 40% Weak - 27% Strong - 29% Shotgun - 4% Likely Running Situations - I Form - 40% Weak - 26% Strong - 28% Shotgun - 6% Passing Situations - I Form - 21% Weak - 26% Strong - 21% Shotgun - 32% Likely Passing Situations - I Form - 21% Weak - 20% Strong - 16% Shotgun - 43% *No real change from last season here 1 WR - 99% *everything else zero PERSONNEL: QB - Alvin Guthrie 7 starts: no change from last year... mid 50s. QB - Levon Clancy 9 starts: QB of the future, sorta. Potentials in the 50s and 60s, except 80s in screen passes and 90s in medium passes. FB - Will Stargell: just about peaking out now. 61/47/65 run ratings. Carrying 55. Endurance 69. TE - Jerald Barnard: 68/56/62 catch ratings. Carrying 40. Endurance 40. * So far there have been NO superstar prospects at FB and TE... sorta booting this challenge in the head at the moment.
At last, the FBs are really starting to take over. Well, for one thing, for the first time it helps to have a starting FB with current potential, rather than all green. And I'm happy to see that the TEs are taking a larger and larger chunk out of the receiving totals. Check out how the #4 and #5 WRs have NO action in the games. THAT is pretty cool.

Check out my post in your other FTBE Challenge thread.
The best thing about a successfully run offense like this is how cheap it is. TE and FB are very cheap replacements for expensive RB and WR.

Cheyenne Spirits 2005 - Season Four
Record: 5-11, 6th place AFC West OFFENSE: 1st - 33, 50, 65, * 2nd - 50, 65, 50, * 3rd - 75, 33, *, * 4th - *, *, *, * * natural game settings FORMATIONS: Running Situations - I Form - 34% Split - 20% Weak - 23% Strong - 23% Likely Running Situations - I Form - 35% Split - 21% Weak - 22% Strong - 22% Passing Situations - I Form - 34% Split - 13% Weak - 27% Strong - 26% Likely Passing Situations - I Form - 35% Split - 18% Weak - 24% Strong - 23% *For the first time we've dropped Shotgun from our list... makes the most sense to get to the TE. 1 WR - 99% *everything else zero PASS DISTANCE: Screen: 25% 1-10: 40% 11-20: 25% 21-30: 5% 31+: 5% PERSONNEL: QB - Giovanni Carmazzi 10 starts: Picked up in a trade... mid 50s passing abilities. Accuracy 44 Power 42. QB - Levon Clancy 6 starts: 50/39/59/37/41 passing ability. Accuracy 39 Power 49. He will be better than Giovanni in a year. FB - Will Stargell: Pops is the man again this year... very solid, but not superstar material. 67/49/68 run ratings. Carrying 56. Endurance 72. TE - Jerald Barnard: Jerald is the man again too. 73/58/64 catch ratings. Carrying 41. Endurance 40. * I had chosen a good looking TE in the 2nd round... but he busted.
For the second year in a row, the FB corps have a respectable carrying average... though slightly down from last year's numbers. Actually, this is the fewest rushes I've ever had as a team. Check out the WRs now that I've eliminated shotgun from our offense. Now there are only TWO wide receivers getting any action! Super cool. Check out the catch percentage disparity between the TEs and the WRs... must be a combination of the short routs run by the TEs and the ineptitude of my WRs. And in a big surprise, Pops started factoring into our passing game at FB. Still... until we get a premier FB and TE, we will have a tough time competing.

Cheyenne Spirits 2006 - Season Five
Record: 12-4, 1st place AFC West * Lost opening round of playoffs 6-3... both Jerald and Benny were knocked out, leaving me with no viable receiver. OFFENSE: 1st - 33, 50, 65, * 2nd - 50, 65, 33, * 3rd - 65, 33, *, * 4th - *, *, *, * * natural game settings FORMATIONS: Running Situations - I Form - 31% Split - 20% Weak - 23% Strong - 26% Likely Running Situations - I Form - 33% Split - 19% Weak - 23% Strong - 25% Passing Situations - I Form - 14% Split - 24% Weak - 36% Strong - 26% Likely Passing Situations - I Form - 10% Split - 26% Weak - 37% Strong - 27% *Decided to get smart and go WEAK during passing formations. 1 WR - 99% *everything else zero PASS DISTANCE: Screen: 32% 1-10: 33% 11-20: 25% 21-30: 5% 31+: 5% PERSONNEL: QB - Levon Clancy: 76/55/82/57/59 passing ability. Accuracy 58 Power 79. Clancy HAS arrived! FB - Will Stargell: Pops was out for about the first 5 games... so his production suffered. His ratings are beginning to drop. 58/44/60 run ratings. Carrying 50. Endurance 64. TE - Jerald Barnard: Mr. Consistency. 80/59/71 catch ratings. Carrying 44. Endurance 45. * Couldn't believe it... still no key TE or FB in the draft.
The FB corps were horrible this year... primarily due to the fact that Stargell missed six games and Albee was a stop-gap replacement after yet another drafted FB busted on me. Still... I'm really impressed with Pop's receiving numbers in only 10 games. Though I love the guy, he is not the answer at FB for the Spirits. In other news... this was BY FAR the best year for the TE corps! It was almost my good forture to have Byron go down for half the year, being my only great WR. I think I'll let Beaudoin go when his contract is up... since it appears that even one great WR is a hell of a distraction for the TE. Jerald led the team in catches, yards received, times targeted, AND TD receptions! Get a-load of the total TDs for the TEs... Imagine if I had a GREAT tight end...
