In other words, virtually no original thought has gone into this whatsoever. The draft: I'm looking for ten or twelve FOFCers to take part in a ten-round draft. Your drafting video game characters (with certain rules, see below). At the end of the draft, a winner will be determined by a vote. The criteria for choosing that winner will be up to the voters, but essentially you want to put together the best possible group of famous characters. The rules: 1. Once a character is taken, he's off the board regardless of how many games he's appeared in. If you take Mario, the next guy can't take Mario Golf Mario. 2. The character must have started off in a video game. No movie characters who were turned into video games. Lara Croft is OK. The Terminator is not. Real life pro atheletes are not. (Rule clarification: arcade games count as video games) 3. You can take any type of character (human, creature, male, female, good, bad, etc) as long as you can describe him/her/it in some way that we understand who you mean. 4. You're drafting specific characters, not general types. Blinky from Pac Man is OK. "Ghosts" in general are not. 5. If you make an invalid pick based on these rules and someone points it out, you lose your pick. If necessary, be prepared to show some sort of evidence that your pick is valid. 6. Draft will go in serpentine order based off a random order. If needed, we'll put time limits on picks during the week. So... anyone want to volunteer to draft a team? Bo Jackson was the best video game athlete ever - Id never take LT over him.
If Jay Schoeder got sacked on 2nd down - 3rd and long - Off Tackle run with Bo - 1st down easily. P.S. Im in. Last edited by Ramzavail : 01-23-2004 at 03:44 PM. Reason: one more thing |

A great, but underrated because of Tecmo, player, was NES Play-Action Football Mike Singletary.

EagleEye and ice make it 12.
Could the next person who's not in the draft who reads this do us a favor and go to http://www.random.org/sform.html to get a list of 12 numbers? |

So many ways I could go with this pick...but I have to go with the king of the Nintendo empire.
First overall pick - Mario. He's been in way too many games, and is way too recognizable to pass up.

ESPN Insider Report:
The draft does not begin until Monday, but sources inside Vince HQ in Isla Vista report that Vince will draft Mario with the first overall pick. Vince and Mario have reportedly agreed in principle to a seven year contract whose value could exceed $75 million if Mario meets various toadstool smushing incentives. |

I was so tempted to pick Pac Man...but I just couldn't. Pac Man isn't really my generation (born in '81), and Mario has branched out much more than Pac Man has.

Rumor has it that Donkey Kong failed a drugs test during the off season, and he may drop out of the first round altogether. Kind of expect that kind of news, I mean, look at his physique!

Might seem odd that I'm doing this since I just signed up hours ago, but I'm going to relinquish my spot. Probably won't have the time over the next week nor do I believe that I have nearly the character knowledge that some of you probably have. So good luck TargetPractice.

the thread brings to mind an article I had read in Wired magazine about a group of guys who formed a rock band that plays only music from video games. They even opened for phantom planet... talk about an odd concert.

Anyone ever heard the Super Mario remix of Nine Inch Nail's "Closer"? Turns out the song synchs up almost perfectly with the Mario theme music. Try to find it on Kazaa some time, it's quite odd.

Some friends of mine won a talent search at The Quest in Minneapolis with about 50-60 bands from the area while playing Super Mario Bros music for one song.

2. Donkey Kong
Contract negotiations broke down with Pac Man, and my scouting department had him graded evenly. Kong was more than happy to agree to a lifetime contract, consisting entirely of banana futures holdings in the Philippines. This was a not an easy decision, and I'm not entirely sure I won't regret it. We were dead-set on landing Mario, but it just wasn't meant to be. Having missed out on him, the opportunity to land his original arch-rival was just too good to pass up.

Reports are saying Sonic the Hedgehog is upset at the first two picks. Evidentally he doesn't like Nintendo, their alma mater.

Some of my scouts told me they thought Pac-Man may drop a few spots because he's a bit too one-dimensional.

Pac Man is not worried. Pac Man believes the first two selections are garbage not worthy of his notice. Pac Man plans on showing them the mistake they've made.
