Tropico 2: Ravenbeard's Rogues
NOTICE January 1, 1650 Are ye tired of waking up in the Carribean sun with not a thing to do? Did ye wake up drunk, not knowing where all yer money went? Do ye enjoy, wenching, plundering and pillaging? Have ye got a knack for swinging a cutlass or firing a cannon? In these hard times, many a sailor cannae find a ship's deck to swab, let alone a bottle of rum to console with. The large nations of Europe, plunder the new world for its riches. Their naval might gives them a license to steal. Yet ye sit on an island looking at meager wages and strict rules. The rules are changing, me maties . . . Greed has the minds of these nations. Spain and England have declared war upon each other, while France sits idly by. In such times, all one would need is a ship of their own, to get their own license to steal. I have that ship, however . . . I don't have a crew. That is where you come in. Do ye seek glory? Do ye seek fame and notoriety? Most of all do ye seek money and the lifestyle that goes along with having alot of it . . . I, the famous Captain Ravenbeard, am looking for 16 swabbies to join me on me private island and to man me vessel? If ye be up to the task, respond to this notice below. The ship sets sail on Monday! Ahoy! Captain Ravenbeard |

I've been wanting to run this dynasty for awhile. Well, ever since I bought this game I've been wanting to.
I am the Pirate Overlord. You are my pirates. A couple of stipulations on this, since it isn't completely dynasty friendly. I will take the first 16 who sign up as my pirates. However, if you don't make the list, do not fret. I will have a waiting list as pirates DO die. Also, I will be working to get more ships, etc . . . I will try to explain more and more about the game as I go forward in the dynasty. I will be posting monthly(game time) reports on the status of the the Pirate Island as well as some other intriguing aspects of the game and of my pirates, such as "A who's who guide to the wenching world." All pirates have statistics. These statistics do not raise unless you go through training. However, you receive experience in Notoriety and Rank. The higher your rank, the bigger of a pirate mansion you can build, the better wenches you can afford. I cannot change the names of the characters in the game, but I will be translating through a spreadsheet of some sort. Captain's rarely die in this game. In fact, they will only die of there is a mutiny aboard their ship. Therefore, if somebody gets a captian position, it would be hard to remove them. Instead I have decided that role-playing will be a staple for success in this dynasty. Pirates who role-play well will get promoted to Captain when I hire a new one, or have to replace an old one. If you are currently a Captain and your ship goes down, I may remove you from your post, even if your character does not die. However, if you roleplay your capture and return well, I most likely won't remove your station. The joys of being a Captain: You get to name your boat. You get a larger take of the plunder. You gain notoriety and rank faster. You decide who gets to sail on your ship. The purpose of this game is to not only succeed as a pirate, but to also be a part of the story. There is information that Captain Ravenbeard may be withholding, but might let slip out. There is more to this scenario than a simple war between England and Spain. Also, as Captain Ravenbeard, I have my own agendas for making money, that you may want to try and figure out. Finally, there are pirate factions. Who's in your faction, and who's not in your faction. When you become a pirate, you join a faction and cannot change it. You will know who is in your faction, but you will not know who is in any other factions. It is the goal for each faction to stash more gold per capita than the other factions. In essence, to control more resources. I hope to make this a fun dynasty that has a coherent, yet complex storyline where all participants have a part to play. Granted, I understand the nature of the dynasty beast and realize that not everybody can participate as much as others. Remember, though, that I am the Pirate Overlord and can reward a Pirate's roleplaying with GOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLDDDDDDDDDD! List of Pirates:
Captives hoping for their chance at glory:

Strangely enough, I have heard about that movie, and it is one of me favorite jokes. It's a bad joke, but one of me favorites. I think that I found me first Captain. Arrr! Edit: I'll try and post more detail on how I'm going to have the factions work. I'm busy building up my databases and spreadsheets to make this one as fun as possible. Raven,
A thought occurred to me. I haven't played Tropico 2, but I know in Tropico 1 you can click on a person's name in their info box in order to change it. Don't know if you've tried that, but I thought I would mention it.

Let me first forewarn you that everything that I write below does not exist in the game. Tropico 2 does have factions set up, however, they are different factions and pirates will switch factions without me knowing it. Instead, I have created the following factions to serve as our factions for the game.
The Factions: The Sea Wolves - The Wolves are a particularly nasty breed of Pirate. They are fighters and sailors. The wolves are very primal beings at heart and when they come ashore, they have two agendas: food and sex. Wham bam thank you m'am, time to get back out on the open sea. When the Wolves hold sway, money will be spent on food production, brothels, and training facilities. If you're a Wolf, you have one purpose: to fight. The only other things that matter to you are the bare essentials. The Barrel Rollers - The Rollers get their nicknames from their uncanny attention to the sound of barrells being rolled off of and onto ships. These pirates are never out of sight of their beer, wine and women. Their love of gluttony is only surpassed by their love of anarchy. When the Rollers hold sway on the island, the focus is on building more brothels and taverns. Prices at these facilities will drop, making their money last longer. The Rollers will cruise when need be, but prefer for all their money to be spent before they do so. The Cabin Boys - The CB's were created by a bunch of young pirates that were sick of being shat upon . . . both figuratively and literally. They banded together and became quite kiniving creatures. They both love the sea and the entertainment on land. However, this reckless bunch favors gambling the most. You never find these lads too far away from a poker game or a roulette wheel. If they aren't at the casinos, they are probably sleeping off a 37 hour poker session. When the CB's hold sway on the island, the price of gambling will drop. If they hold a large enough sway, the Pirate Overlord may even decide to fix gambling in their favor. The Upper Crust - Also known as the Crusties, these pirates are all about the Benjamin's. They need big houses and lots of island defense to protect what they have hoarded away. They don't mind the occasional wench, but would rather knock on the door of an expensive courtesan. They don't always have the money that they pretend to have, but they will always let you know that they have lots of it. When the Crusties are in control, the conditions of island facilities will rise, as well as their prices. More spending will go into defense and the so-called luxuries of life. ---------- Power Struggles amongst factions: Once a year (with the exception of the first year), a yearly budget will be determined by your Pirate Overlord (that's me). Based on each factions sway, I will determine how spending will be allocated for the year. Sway is determined by whichever faction holds the most total purse money at the end of the year. How I spend the Island's money directly helps your factions out if you hold sway. The idea is to garner as many faction points as you can muster before the end of the game (there is a determinant for the end of the game, but only I know what it is). This is how you get faction points: Each year sway was held: 20 points Sway held at game's end: 100 points End of the year bonuses: 20x primary happiness level rounded up, 10x secondary happiness rounded up (more on this later). Per each live Captain (per year) in your faction: 3 points Per each live Pirate (per year) in your faction: 1 point Catch a mole infiltrator to your faction: amount of mole's points Have an innocent assasinated: -20 points. Failed Assasination attempt: -10 points. -------------------- Happiness and Factions Each faction has a type of happiness that they are trying to achieve. That happiness is their primary happiness. Also, they have things that make them content. This is their secondary happiness. These scores are tallied in the game by percentages. 100% being completely happy, 0% being completely unhappy. At the end of the year, the happiness level in each of these categories is tallied for ALL pirates. Based on ALL pirates happiness with your faction's primary and secondary happiness levels, you receive bonus faction points. The Sea Wolves - Feasting (Primary), Wenching (Secondary) The Barrel Rollers - Drinking (Primary), Anarchy (Secondary) The Cabin Boys - Gambling (Primary), Resting (Secondary) The Upper Crust - Stashing (Primary), Defense (Secondary) With this said, it is not imperative that you join a faction. If you choose not to join, your money and faction points won't be added to anybody at the end of the year. If you would like to declare a faction now, please do so. If not, don't worry. You can declare whenever you'd like. NOTE: I DO REALIZE THAT I AM CHANGING WHAT I SAID EARLIER. Everybody will know your faction. Also, from time to time you may get a mole in your faction. Who knows when and who knows what faction. Only I do and the mole does. A mole's purse money will count toward their false faction until they proclaim themselves a mole and rejoin their true faction. A mole will gain discretionary points awarded by me. If the mole rejoins their true faction, the number of discretionary points that they earned will be taken away from their false faction and given to their true faction. At any point a faction leader can spend faction points to have a person assasinated. 10 points per attempt. It costs an additional 10 if you end up assasinating an innocent pirate. However, if the person was the mole, you get your 10 points back plus you get 1 point per point the mole has earned. At the same time, the mole's true faction will lose those points. An important thing to know about factions and Captians: If you are a captain and put all of your faction mates on your ship, you are putting all of your eggs in one basket. If the ship goes down, your faction is gone. And ships DO sink on occasion. Please feel free to ask any questions, if you don't comprehend, or if I've left a loophole open. For $20, it was the best value that I ever got on a game. My GF, plays this game all the time, also. As far as game play, it is a little frustrating if you start off playing the campaign without knowing what you're doing. However, when you get a hang of it, it flows pretty smoothly. Just like any other Civilization Builder game, it gets hard to keep track of everything when you get too much going on at once. This game is most definitly worth the $20 I paid for it. ----------- Current Faction Count: Crusties: 4 Wolves: 4 Rollers: 3 CB's: 2 |

Yarrrr!!! It begins!
After makin' lofty promises to ye all, I have gone back on my word. When ye reach our pirate paradise on 'St. Nowhere' island in the Lesser Antilles (Southern Carribean for ye map lubbers), not everything is as I have promised. One thing can be said for sure. There sure are alot of dense captives on me isle. However, there be no beer, no wenches, and not even a pirate ship to be found! What lies I tell! After a brief period of disgruntlement, most of ye scurvy dogs realize that there is some work to be done. The captives are utter fools and, in me absence, have built a sawmill on the most fertile of farming grounds! DIRTY BILGE RATS! Without much further to go on, I take an inventory on St. Nowhere. What we's a got: 1 Pirate Palace - currently no bigger than a hovel. 1 Stockade - for storin the captives that we don't have jobs for 2 Bunkhouses - A place for the lazy captives to sleep 1 Corn Farm - They grow the food that we be needin 1 Sawmill - Processes timber into usable lumber 1 Chuck Tent - A place for the filthy captives to eat their gruel. 1500 Gold - to spend on building maintenance and construction 20 Lumber - to build buildings. 28 Captives - Well SOMEBODY has to work around here! What we's a be needin: 2 Timber Camps - We need lumber to build things on this isle 1 Construction Tent - To use for Carpenters/Laborers 1 Corn Farm - 1 Farm just isn't enough if we want to start brewin our own beer! 1 Sea Rations Factory - Turns corn into precious Sea Rations 1 Dock - Does anybody remember where we parked our ship? What ship, ye ask? January 1650 I swiftly put up me construction tent and timber camps. We need to focus on getting things set up for our base of operations. Between the two timber camps, we employ 6 captive lumberjacks. At the construction tent, we allocate 5 captives to become carpenters. Our dense captives immediately disobey me orders to build our docks first, so I dispense JeffNights to immediately whip them into shape. When JeffNights gets to the tent, he realizes that the construction crew has already left and is, in fact, almost done building our second Corn Farm. JeffNights gives them a couple of licks with his whip and they complete the project. While JeffNights pauses to discuss evolutionary theory with a cat, the captive carpenters move on to work on the Sea Ration Factory. JeffNights does not notice until March that they are once again working on the wrong building. On the bright side, JeffNights does discover that cats are superior to dogs because they evolved much quicker . . . at least according to Darwin, the cat. 4 captives immediately take up farming on the corn farm as soon as it is built. February 1650 After I spend some time speaking with Darwin, the cat, I realize the fallicies in my logic. The captives, in this case, were correct to build the Sea Ration Factory before the Docks. It will give the factory some time to start producing Sea Rations prior to our ship arriving. I now feel bad for making JeffNights sleep with the parasite infested captives. Arrr, what's the use in feelin bad anyhow. He prolly did somethin deservin of such punishment that I didn't know about. Construction continues on the Sea Ration Factory. Meanwhile, Calis reflects on a lost love. He seems to be walking around the island with a confused look on his face sayin, "Twas a mermaid not a manatee, I be certain!" March 1650 There hasn't been mucf afore ye pirates to do on the island during yer short 3 month stay. In fact, a couple of ye, The Rollers to be certain, were caught trying to ferment tree bark to make up some sort of alcoholic concoction. In fact, the only really happy fellers are the CB's. Laying around on the beach and gamblin seems to be right up their alleys. Construction is completed on the Sea Ration Factory and we move two farmers from their farm to start cookin up some tasty sea rations in the factory. |
