Help me understand this re: contracts
Hi guys,
Sorry if this has been brought up elsewhere. I did a search and couldn't find anything. Why is it when you trade for a player with a 1 year contract that when you acquire that player a new contract extension is already in place? Shouldn't the extension be up to the GM of the team to negotiate? I see that happen almost all of the time. I am in a MP league and it happens there, too, except for tonight when I traded away a linebacker with a 1 year deal. He did not receive a new deal automatically. So I guess my question is a 2 parter: 1) Why does the game assign these new contract extensions to traded players? 2) What determines that a player will or will not get an auto contract extension when traded? Thanks for the help Mike |

I don't see this, but I am not sure I understand your question. Are you talking about the player that comes to your team in the deal, or the player that leaves your team. All players coming to my team have the identical contract they had with the previous team (amount and duration) with of course the signing bonus eliminated, as it should be. As for players leaving, I have never checked if their contract changed.

I haven't seen this either. When you acquire a player via trade he should have the same contract as he did with the prior team, minus the signing bonus (which already was paid by the other team and remains on the other team's salary cap).

I'm tellin ya he does not have the same contract. Trust me guys I have done this multiple times in my solo league and every time the player gets an extension without me doing a darn thing. I have the latest patch (5.0b)
This only happens to players with one year deals. If a player is traded with a multiyear contract, then the contract is the same and nothing happens. If I trade for a player with just 1 year (the current year) left on his deal, then he automatically gets an extension. I know I'm not losing my mind LOL. I see this all the time. I started a new test league today by having an initial player draft, traded for a player with 1 year on his initial deal, and when he arrived on my team he had a 3 year deal without me even negotiating. I can't believe this is only happening to me. |

What are your global settings? Do you handle everything, or do you have it set to let the computer handle some aspects of the game?

This pretty much has to be it. I'm sure you have your settings set to let the scouts handle signing players. I've traded many players both ways and never had such an occurence. |

Global Settings are as follows:
Yes - (Autosave) No No No No (To all the coach and scout stuff) In a Multiplayer league these settings will be the same for everyone, right? Or does everyone have to set them manually? Regardless in my solo league the settings are the same. The fact that no one else has seen this is baffling. I'm confused now heh. Are there any other settings that could affect this sort of thing? |

Since you're saying you can easily duplicate this, make a screenshot of the player's contract before the trade, a screenshot of the trade screen (showing how the trade will affect each team's cap), and then a screenshot of the player's contract after the trade (with the automatic extension you are describing). Then send the bug report with screenshots to support AT solecismic and/or post them here.

OK, what you're saying is only players on 1 year deals this happens to? Come to think of it, I have never traded for a player with only one year left on his deal so I can neither confirm or deny this. Your settings may be the answer in terms of scout control.
