Virus Trouble: need help
Somehow my girlfriend managed to download some sort of spyware program onto my computer and i'm having a bitch of a time trying to remove it. I installed a trial version of norton anti-virus software and am also using ad-aware6 but every time i deleted the virus/suspected files, the spam continues and the files seem to be there when i rescan using both programs.
On top of all that, norton anti-virus is giving me dozens of warning notices that my "sent emails" weren't be delivered. These emails were never initiated by me. The topics of these supposed emails were spam themselves, so somehow a virus or hack has turned my computer into an automatic spam emailer. I could really use some pointers here on how to get rid of this stuff. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

Try Spybot and SpySweeper. Both may find something that Ad-Aware doesn't. If that doesn't work, check your processes list to see if something strange is running. There's a list at http://www.sysinfo.org/startupinfo.php that identifies start-up items, and there's a link from that website to Answersthatwork.com which has a list of processes that are common viruses.
