My first thought: poker isn't one of those activities that people have no real way of actually participating in... like running a pro sports team, or owning and racing thoroughbred horses, or other things that make the foundations for most successful sims. If you want to play poker - go right ahead, there are any number of settings to do so, with play money or real, against AI competition or humans, online or in person, for small stakes or large.
Not trying to overtly discourage you - just offering my honest feedback. |

The problem is, it costs money. Yes you can play for play money, but then it is hard to have serious competition. With a simulation like this you could have a realistic feeling experience in poker without putting up any serious money.

I personally would buy a good poker sim. I like playing poker, but as MJ4H noted, I'd like to play wihout putting up serious money. I play PokerStars, but I only use play money and freerolls because I'm not crazy about the online pay-for-play experience.
Yeah, Hoyle-esque graphics would be fine, although there would be more appear if they were a bit snazzier. Different difficulty levels would be a nice touch, as would complete statistics. That would be something nice for people who want to practice their games and maybe identify weaknesses. |

I would be interested in this, too. I compete in play money tourneys at Party Poker and am sick and tired of half the table going all in on the first hand, winning with 86o and bragging about how good they are.

I would try this as wee. You could set up a season of events where you can travel around the world and compete similar to the world poker tour. In between these events you can play in cash games to hone your skills. There could be diffrent casino's where the level of competition varies and diffrent stakes you can play for. Aranking system would be nice as well, for example a points system based on how you finish each tourney. Theere could be "missons" as well, reach a millon in career earnings or make the final table in 3 consecutive tournaments for example.
I think if a game like that was done right it would be very entertaining with alot of replayabiliy. |

There could even be an opponent named Moneymaker who even though you're a better card player than, he wins because he just gets fucking cards for added realism. As far as online play, I'm not interested in any online poker games where money isn't on the line. In games like that with random competition you almost always too many bullshit players who go max bet every time without caring about the outcome. It's almost impossible to get a good game without money on the line. |

I think the key is have tons of data resulting in a multitude of personalities, looks, responses, reactions.....thousands because repitition would kill the feeling. Even maybe a screen with a staredown and then a fold, call button under the guy and right when you hit one, he reacts.....i dunno.....Maybe a tv style presentation going up into the stands for shots of someone's relatives....

There's a poker game coming for PS2 and Xbox, although I don't know if it's WSOP, or just more generically named "World Championship Poker." Gonna be online playable, though, and on the PS2, you can use the EyeToy camera to see if your opponents are bluffing or what. So that's kinda cool.
Don't think real moola's involved, though. |

Yawn. Moneymaker finished 2nd in a WPT tournament and 10th in the Pot Limit Omaha event this year. The "he just gets better cards" is a tired excuse now. He's proven himself.

The idea was done about a decade ago, and the Windows version is still available. The graphics are OK (for the mid-90s), the AI is competent, and there are different types of players. No multiplayer, and the field is limited to 216, which is about 1/10 of this year's field.
I'd settle for an update. Last edited by Honolulu Blue : 05-31-2004 at 03:08 PM. |

FWIW, I'll sell, check that, give someone my copy of above game (if you pay for shipping).
Note: Won't work on XP machines.

Masque's world series of poker adventure is not really close to what is being suggested above. |
